In Q3 of 2012, a pretty significant milestone has been reached, according to a study by the research experts at Strategy Analytics. It is estimated that the total number of smartphone owners worldwide has surpassed the 1 billion mark for the first time ever since smartphones came to be back in 1996. In comparison, the figure stood at 0.7 billion at the end of Q3, 2011. That's huge!...

And don't be shocked to see the number become over 9 billion soon.

If by soon, you mean not soon at all. The world population just hit 7 billion. You do the math.

Considering how many cheap Android devices there are, id say Apple is a big winner. Sure Android has more users but they have $30 prepaid android phones.

big winner of what? what has it won at?
seriously its not a winner anymore its playing catchup. if your talking about the iphone in general still not a winner, nokia, BB, motorola all made more of a mark then apple

A winner in dollars fool.
-More app $$$
-Profitable Phones
-Profitable accessories
Yes Android has more shares but considering just how cheap Android devices are its a no brainer. If there were cheaper iPhones on prepaid networks, we'd be talking about how the iPhone has more market shares.
Don't be a fanboy chaoticrazor.
Im no Apple fanboy, infact I have 2 Android devices and prefer Windows Phone over both but c'mon man. Androids success is based on inexpensive models which AREN'T PROFITABLE :-)
Google gets a huge amount of profit in ADVERTISEMENTS :-(
I feel as though I should stop going on but I feel the fanboy base here doesn't have a high enough I.Q. to follow.
See.. you could sell 6 units and earn $10 profit where I can sell 4 units and make $20 profit. Yes Apple is greedy (ifans hate me now too :-) ). They charge carriers too much no arguments here.
Oh P.S. id say Apple has been successful because IOS came out first and companies such as Samsung use Apples patents :-)

''I feel as though I should stop going on but I feel the fanboy base here doesn't have a high enough I.Q. to follow.''
your arrogant. your not smarter then most on here so come off your high horse
second this is an article on smartphones in general, yet look how quick you are to give apple the credit for most of it, and you say your no fanboy.
also where did i mention android in my comment see like a fanboy when you saw i disagree that apple ''won'' you automatically attack android phones. all i said that smartphones owe more to nokia motorola etc then apple. take nokia as an example apple will never make as big a mark on the mobile industry as nokia. ohh let me guess your gonna shout this is a fanboy comment right.

Hmm your right you didn't mention Android. My apologies. I was reading other articles and yours and mashed it together. Im no Apple fanboy, but as of late they are squashing BB and Nokia (which im a fan of) is hurting and could potentially be bought out by a company such as Apple. Motorola speaks for itself. I have a Motorola and its just awful!
But ill man up to my mistake! My arrogance got the best of me!
I wont however retract from my statement and say Apple is still the big winner thus far. Especially when the 3 you mentioned have tried to make "iPhone killers" and thus far have come up short.
19. chaoticrazor posted on 19 Oct 2012, 06:33 0
the ''iphone killer'' term i think is stupid now as the iphone shouldn't be the benchmark of a great smartphone. besides the fact people have differant preferences the latest iphone has failed to deliver other flagship phones are better and more functional
as for motorola and nokia failing to compete lets say. well mototrola make good devices generally but just nothing that has staying power. once there released there forgotten about. nokia well they look to be on the right track the lumia 920 undoubtedly is ahead of the iphone 5. most comes to preference on OS.
so i wouldn't say apple is the big winner, yeah there big in the market right now but there is some strange loyalty from fans that contribute to that.

Are you retarded? Share a link, if any, in which iOS has more market share than Android

Just 1 billion???? theres got to be more than that
15. yajia1 posted on 18 Oct 2012, 05:37 0
Just a little over 1billion? Gosh. Maybe you're doing it wrong! Even beggars in my country have their $10 android 'smart'phones! Maybe this is just for the US?
17. g2a5b0e posted on 18 Oct 2012, 08:59 0
Yes, it's just for the U.S. There are over 1 billion smartphone users in a country with a population of just over 300 million.
