The release date of Windows Mobile 6.5 announced by Microsoft
Due to the great number of leaked ROMs and test handset units we´ve seen to date, say the Samsung OmniaLITE B7300), we already know quite a few things about Windows Mobile 6.5. Still, an official announcement by Microsoft about the release date is a whole lot different. The new version of the operating system will become available on 6 October and power new generation of Windows-based smartphones that will feature access to services like Windows Marketplace for Mobile and Microsoft My Phone. The software giant has a host of partnering companies around the Globe, but the first Windows Mobile 6.5 cell phone to hit the shelves will be the LG GM730.

So, tell us what you think. Are you excited about the upcoming release of the new OS version?

yup, and just think in a few more years it might be as good as apple's.

If WM devices didn't cost $100-150 more than their WebOS/Android/iPhone devices, I'd be excited. Let's see; iPhone 3G? $99. Palm Pre? $199. MyTouch 3G? $199. Touch Pro 2? $350. All prices listed are with a 2 year contract, and are excluding the fire sale going on at Verizon. Hmmmm....while I agree the TP2 has some nice specs, it isn't worth $150 more in price. Bring Windows Phone prices in line with the other smart phone prices, and I will be a little more excited. I'll be heading to the Hero, when it's released on Sprint.

I couldn't agree with you more!! 350 is nuts for the tp2. I hope Verizon doesn't get too proud like Sprint and TMobile.

I think you need to compare the TP2 HTCs top of the line device that has not even launched yet to Apples top of the line device. I was in the verizon store and they had the Touch pro for $99 Omnia for $99 Touch Diamond for $99 so just like apple there new top of the line device is expensive others are cheap

I'm impressed that LG is doing the first WM 6.5 and not HTC.... shocked actually... HTC does first for everything WM... Anyone else confused by this? Maybe HTC will have the first WM 7 device

Some of you are pretty stupid if you do a little math the REQUIRED crap plans you need for the Iphone alone pays for the price of the phone 2-3 fold per person within a couple of months. Sprint has just about everything included in their plans you just have to worry about what amount of minutes you want. So $350 for the Touch Pro 2 a good price for an HTC phone. The Pro was around that price when it came out.
