The new iPad 2 will quadruple resolution, but fall short of being a Retina display

0. phoneArena posted on 15 Jan 2011, 23:12

Still falling short of the ppi number necessary to call the Apple iPad 2's screen a Retina display, an app for Apple iBooks suggests that the iPad 2 will have a resolution of 2048 x 1536 which is 4 times the specs from the original model...

Isn't it possible that those ibook apps are actually for the upcoming new gen Macbook pro and new gen Imac?
Such a high Resolution display will for sure make the Ipad 2 VERY expenisve...
I believe it would increase, but by SOOOO much.

Apple depends on a lot manufacturers. Will LG deliver the screens Apple ask for? NVidia will probably deliver a tegra 2 in disguise. At least Samsung makes his own products.

Well put! Not a samsung fan but they at least make their own products!

Why does it really matter overall? On the software side, Samsung needs Android to power it so they don't make all of their products. Sure they are testing the Bada platform but where can you find the devices at? All manufacturers depend on other manufacturers for parts and software. Why is it that Android fanboys go completely out of their way to take a shot at Apple? Who cares that the iPhone and iPad are not made 100% by Apple? Why should Apple waste tons of money on R&D and facilities to engineer certain parts when it is more cost effective to outsource for certain components. All manufacturers do it including Samsung.

That resolution is insane. What is even the point of having such a high resolution?

12. Kjayhawk posted on 16 Jan 2011, 13:57

Gives it reason for a higher price

What's the point of 1920x1080 on a monitor? The point is a clearer display.

13. JeffdaBeat posted on 16 Jan 2011, 14:48

The higher the resolution on the screen, the clearer the image will be. That's why the iPhone's screen looks so amazing. You have a lot of pixels smashed very closely to each other. Makes for a clearer image.

it's ok if monitors have that kind of resolution, but who the HELL would want to look at 'sharp texts' that close on a tablet?!

10. common sense (unregistered) posted on 16 Jan 2011, 12:21

Well, How can you dare to put this new?

It´s impossible...period.

You need almost the best current graphics card to move things at that resolution nowadays in desktops and you say Apple is going to make it in a tablet in a few months ?????

Please be more serious and think twice before saying nonsense.

It's not impossible, it's damn likely this is true.

Ridiculous, you would need absolutely premium hardware and power. Battery life would suck, would be too expensive,

The res will be better than the old one but nit this high apple will wait a few years to put a retina on the iPad so that just like the iPod touch with it's camera scenario everyone will have an iPad by then and once they put the retina on it people will know the iPad love it and spend $1000 on it while sites like this one publish stories about the successor to it the day following it's release What can we do but follow the trend
I'm no better than anyone but it's apple no brainer strategy will that keep us all within it's grasp for many many years to come

Nobody thinks that the ipad 2 is obsolete already and it isn't even out?

Been Waiting for the iPad2 and this display really gets me excited. My eyes got tired trying to read on the current iPad. That being said, since I'm not an Apple guy I'm going to wait and check out the Moto Xoom before I will buy my next tablet.
