The never-released WinsorNot webOS phone finally comes to light

0. phoneArena 24 Apr 2013, 23:35 posted on

HP purchased webOS with the intention of bringing it back from the ashes of Palm, but that never really worked out. HP only released a few devices running webOS, the most popular of which was the Touchpad tablet, and the Touchpad only got popular when the price dropped to $99 and it was purchased in bulk by Android hackers. But, it seems that HP did have plans for another webOS phone after the Pre 3 and the Veer. It was codenamed WinsorNot and images of the never-released phone have finally come out...

It's always sad to see good devices that never saw the light of day.

At least WebOS lives on in Android 4.x and Blackberry 10.

I agree, this could have been a phenomenal phone. it was a very under rated OS with so much potential.

I don't know about underrated. Pretty much everyone who actually played with WebOS loved it. It was just marketed like s**t and never put on anything but underwhelming hardware. I mean, between this and the Veer, the Veer is what HP chose to go with?

I completely agree. I think it was under rated because the regular phone user barely even knew it existed.

I loved my Pre3 but that phone should have and could have been marketed towards women since you need smaller hands to work properly and had a fashionable design.

No one knew what the hell HP was doing (especially not their own CEO). They discontinue WebOS then decide as a hardware company that they're getting out of the hardware business. A retarded donkey could have run that company better.

Sad to say that Palm didn't even have enough foresight on WebOS. They were stuck on the "smaller is better" trend from before touchscreen phones.

Marketing is everything in business, especially in the tech world. Every hardware manufacturer out there sells phones which kick the s**t out of the iPhone in just about every regard, yet because Apple has great marketing and an army of loyal asswipes behind it, Samsung (which also does great with marketing) is the only company that comes close to Apple's individual success.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

so true. Everybody at this time wanted phones that had bigger screens, and HP/Palm bragged about having the smallest smartphone. Average consumer wanted nothing to do with that.

More than any Samsung phone, this one looks like a design that Apple would sue for.

I had an original palm pre for 2 and a half years.. I homebrewed (rooted) it and loved it! WebOs had a great community behind it, very die hard! Android has a ton of great features but as an overall operating system, WebOs was the best, IMO. I think if HP would have gone in a different direction design wise from the pre and had better marketing, it could have survived and competed.

Even with no support or apps, I'll kill for this phone. I am still rocking a Pre minus.
