0. phoneArena 24 Jun 2012, 00:31 posted on

Wall Street blog The Street says that Android users are clueless when it comes to their phone, citing a comScore study from April that said that 70% of Android users don't know how to access Wi-Fi with their Android smartphone...

I know how to access wifi. I also know how user agent strings work, how screen resolution works, and how to read a review and know what it said.

There are three biggest liar: Politics, Woman and Statistic :P.

I would still prefer using 3G than wifi because there is no wifi hot spot that reliable enough and some need additional pay, internet using 3G much more practice for me.

The Street maybe don't know that in iOS, apple put restiction to use other browser while in Android there many browser which more populer than stock browser. They should deep into google play and see by their own eyes how many phone using Dolphin HD, Opera Mini and Firefox Mobile

Almost all of my friend who use android don't even know there is ICS for android, simply because manufacture don't promote it well or push it late to their phone or they feel satisfy with gingerbread. And I don't really feel much different in gingerbread or ICS beside ICS is more beautiful and easier to use. Despite those fact, the newest iOS are still much behind Gingerbread in term of functionality

we don't need to upgrade, actually.. the phone works with Froyo, GB, heck, even Eclair.. and that all being said, even Donut has more functionalities than the upcoming iOS 6.. so who really needs an upgrade?

This is sad but true. Most users aren't "advanced users". And also the reason why iPhones are so popular. Because they are so "novice-friendly".

If iPhones had 4G capabilities (which Android has had since the beginning of 2011), they wouldn't be forced to rely on Wifi to hold a decent internet connection.

This does play into it - I get faster downloads on my LTE connection than I do on my Comcast cable home connection.

This is bull, Me myself as a tech person knows which one is harder to use, and believe me iOS is very very very easy to use. Here's my Opinion about the two regarding to the use of both:

#1
Apl: Apple made their UI Platform very simple+restricted for all ages so those less tech savvy people wouldn't have a hard time adventuring in their UI

And: Unlike Android, their UI is very advance, They do not only have plain icons like iOS, files+thing are managed by you, yourself, which I think is very professional IMO

#2
Apl: Apple has poor customization, no widgets and such, which in my opinion are very important, because it gives flavor+spice to your UI

And: You are free to customize anything you want to your liking, any custom roms+launchers and such *this is where the tech experts take part, making roms+launchers which I think is very tech savvy part of Android, trust me I know a lot of tech savvy people, and majority of them are Android Users.

Conclusion: If Wall Street says that majority of Android user are not tech savvy, why do majority of Android users know how to put custom roms+launchers? Explain me that. So does this mean that Apple user are more tech savvy than Android? Come on "The Street" are you going to be that sarcastic to make a silly unproven poll which I believe is not true at all, I sense something fishy about this poll.

I use Opera with desktop agent as many people with android I know, so this counts as mobile or PC traffic?

Open up your browser, and go to http://www.whatismybrowser.com/

It'll show you what your User Agent String is showing. I haven't used Opera in a while, but if it has UA settings try each and go to that page. You'll see it showing a different one for each.

Hey genius the studies aren't done by whatismybrowser.com

Android users just don't use the web because they barely can use their phones.

61% of ALL mobile traffic comes from iOS and that's a FACT.

I love how fandroids spout nonsense even though the facts always disagree with them.

Hey, taco, what phone has higher resolution, the HTC One X or the iPhone 4s?

The issue here is that you don't know how these browser stat surveys are done. ComScore, or whoever is reporting the stats, buy the server stats from a number of websites. They don't go out and measure anything themselves.

Here is the deal. If you go to a website on an Android phone with a spoofed agent, if it could tell you were on an Android device, you would still get the mobile page. If you get the full page, you were recorded as the browser you spoofed to.

the title is extremely misleading

it should say: The Street says a lot of Android users know nothing about their phones

or

The Street says some Android users know nothing about their phones

or

The Street says most Android users know nothing about their phones

not all!

This is stupid: aren't android users the people who can flash roms, run custom launchers, run custom browsers, have adobe flash, and their skies have no limits...

IOS uses have none of that stuff

and for the 4G thing theres this fact: NOT EVERYONE HAS UNLIMITED DATA AND IT USES A s**t LOAD OF BATTERY

Android make the impossible happen on their phones! phones like the G1 have every single android version ported(even honeycomb) I wouldn't be suprised to see jelly bean on the G1 soon

and phones like the optimus one(I had to get to this) can use ICS has their daily driver

Now i admit there are some people that don't know anything about their phones, well they should be usingthe iphone because then they can you it to they full potential
those people never change or add a single widget to they homescreen, they get espier launcher to make their phones look like an iphone. Other than a few games, they never get any other extra apps. They act like iphone users.

well they shouldn't qualify for ATMOST 50%

this whole article and that whole statistic is BIASED and it needs to have a major rewrite. If you correctly rewrite it then it might not be that biased and might be tolerable

I have zero loyalty to Android. The moment a better platform becomes available, I'm gone. I had real hopes for WebOS, but unfortunately Palm fumbled it, then sold it to HP which was run by people with no vision.

That said, just the tech arguments here show the lie of Apple users being tech savvy versus Android users. As a microcosm of smartphone users, this forum indicates exactly the opposite, with the most vocal Apple supporters knowing almost nothing about tech.

Apple users are more loyal to their platform. Fanatically loyal, to the point that as they're picking up their iPhone5 this fall on release day, they already know positively they're getting the iPhone6 in a year on its opening day.

In the end, there are Android users who know nothing about tech. My wife is one. She just upgraded to the Droid 4, and I had to do all the activation and setup, even setting up her home screen.

And, nowadays, not knowing how to set up your WiFi Is dangerous, with the limited data plans the carriers are dealing. But, we've already shown the error in the browser stats via user agent spoofing, so I don't know how accurate the breakdown is. Right now. I'm being recorded as Safari, though I'm on Android.

Of course, you can never speak in absolute generalities. I have two coworkers who are iPhone users. One is a technotard, the other is very tech savvy (though both bring their PCs to me for upgrades or troubleshooting). Then again, the technotard won't even consider moving from Apple, while the tech savvy one has stated he'd like to get an Android phone, but he's got too much invested in apps, media and content through iTunes , and he doesn't want to rebuy.

bwahahaha... damn yall android users are mad as hell...lol

you guys take offense to the stupidest things...

not everyone visits tech sites to learn about their phones or even want to know how to add widgets and other things...

most just want to:

text
check facebook
tweet
make calls
take pics

THATS IT...

I have 1 friend who use Samsung Galaxy 1
Another 2 who have Samsung Galaxy 2
When I asked them if they have updated to Ice Cream Sandwich or Custom Rom it, they don't even understand what I'm saying. That's because they are not tech savy and don't have time to understand these stuff.

I have two friends with the iPhone 4. They both bring their PCs to me for upgrades and repairs/troubleshooting. One had a 10 minute argument with me insisting his iPhone 4 was a 4G phone, and the only reason he didn't get 4G speeds was that Verizon didn't have LTE in our area. H swore that the 4 in the name meant 4G. Kept insisting after I showed him the 4G signal indicator on my Thunderbolt.

I have a third friend with an iPhone (not sure which model, he moved away and I haven't seen him in over a year). He used to bring his PC to me regularly. I'd do his tech repairs, he'd do drywall and plumbing repair for me - I miss him because I suck at that sort of stuff.
