The Huawei Ascend Mate, a 6.1 inch 1080p beast, gets impromptu introduction at a Huawei store

0. phoneArena posted on 23 Dec 2012, 07:50

The 6.1 inch 1080p screen of the Huawei Ascend Mate was supposed to be introduced at CES, but when you have a beast like that in your pocket it is hard to keep quiet, so we can't really blame Huawei Chairman Richard Yu who gave the device an impromptu introduction at a Huawei store in Guangzhou; luckily, someone decided to record the event for prosperity...

My lord $480 o______________o

If advertised well....definitely note 2 killer (although i think it already is!!)

8. zuckerboy posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:13 25 2

I don't think so

15. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:33 5 19

The screen is definitely better than Note 2, but I don't think Huawei can do a good job with software.

But this is the last empty space of screen size that Huawei can exploit for better or worse.

26. Firedrops posted on 23 Dec 2012, 09:59 3 2

Huawei can't do a good job with software? LMAO.

Also, even if they don't, each of their phones have a community dev base about the size of an S3, or greater. It won't be that big of an issue.

29. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 23 Dec 2012, 10:16 15 1

By the software I mean the OS, can they compete with Note 2 on features and smoothness? I don't think they can.

50. blingblingthing posted on 23 Dec 2012, 14:35 3

I would take a vanilla flavored Android Experience anyday.

77. doejon posted on 25 Dec 2012, 06:48

looks like a galaxy s2/note in very big

64. thelegend6657 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 21:50 1

You saw the HuaWei emotion UI ?

55. darkskoliro posted on 23 Dec 2012, 16:50 4 2

you realise at this price point many people can afford this phone? Just because the note has s pen doesnt mean everyone who wants an oversize phone can afford one, @ $480 it will appeal to a much larger market. sure it wont match in software, but in the end people are buying it for the big screen. not the stylus.

12. desijatt posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:27 17

It is great, but i'll still w8 for note 3....software experience on galaxy note is the best....you cant get better Phablet than note series...

18. ebubekir26 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:53 17 4

i can't agree more , Samsung is the BEST and Note III will kick ASS

22. sid07desai posted on 23 Dec 2012, 09:15 11 1

6.1 inch ?! Phablet ? Or a Tabphone?

13. ebubekir26 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:30 19 3

it's not the Note II killer , it's to big for a phablet, and it doesn't have the magical S-pen , air view, multi-window, ink effect, Note app (s-note,s-memo),

27. richardyarrell2011 (banned) posted on 23 Dec 2012, 10:03 20

Note 2 killer that is a pretty comical statement to say the least. With all the things the Galaxy Note 2 brings to the table from a software and features standpoint we who own the Galaxy Note 2 have nothing to worry about at all. Samsung is KING OF THIS SPACE they are not playing catch up they created this category. Huawei doesn't have ANY CREDIBILITY in the android space so they are so far behind Samsung it's pretty comical. I applaud them and their entrance into this space it only offers competition which brings more product for us the consumer. The Galaxy Note 3 will ''BLOW THIS OUT OF THE WATER PLAIN AND SIMPLE''...The Galaxy Note 2 is the ultimate productivity/all purpose device ever made so it's a safe bet that people haven't seen Samsung's best yet. I'd rather roll with the creators than the ''ROOKIES ENTERING THE MARKET''. Samsung has NOTHING TO PROVE they own this space....

Ok, But hasn't DROID DNA surpassed note 2 in every thing...
Display, GPU CPU benchmarks and user experience as a phone.
Only place note 2 excels is s pen...
DROID DNA is currently most power full smart phone and will remain till gs3 comes out ... SO WHAT MAKES YOU THINK note 2 is best..?

67. darkskoliro posted on 23 Dec 2012, 23:13 1

he loves note 2 and samsung thats why

68. MrJerry posted on 23 Dec 2012, 23:34 1

OK let me ask you this abhishek48

To be honest, I never owned HTC phone but I have seen and used many times because I am working at Mobile carrier company(Optus in Australia)

Now, What I understood about HTC phones mostly from Websites is that HTC phones are really good in almost every parts including appearance and design especailly comapared to Samsung products..

But What I don't understand is that then, why it could not sell over Samsung??? even half of half?..

Please don't tell me about marketing or vicious ways to sell their products.

They r all companies which all has same NO.1 goal of making a profit from their products as possible as they can...

Please HTC fans don't tell me this is better and better....

Please give me any HTC device which is sold more or even close to Samsung device in these days then I will be very interested in that device

Otherwise please just admit a little that Samsung is doing better than HTC now and it would be better for your loved company as well so they can do better next time.

Cmon man

Don't you understand what I mentioned above?

So what I understand from your comment,
Are you "Speculating " that DNA is overselling Galaxy note 2 with those prove?

Cmon...

Like I said, I am the person who sell the phone in the feild and I can be pretty sure that you better wish the world ends today than your speculation comes true

82. kevjohn posted on 30 Dec 2012, 13:11

Droid Dna has the screen and it is beautiful I will have to confess to that I have a friend with one. But browser on my Note 2 beats the browser on his Droid Dna. If you want or need the basic smartphone that is all the Dna is good for. The Galaxy Note 2 pisses on the Dna battery life wise, multitasking wise, software and features wise, storage wise, and it goes on and on. Nice try thou...

have u used a Note 2?
the user experience i.e. the software feature optimization coupled with great hardware make the Note 2 unbeatable in the phablet category!

63. sithvenger (banned) posted on 23 Dec 2012, 21:00 3

I have and it made me sell my iPhone 5, which I loved. The note 2 is a beast.

66. PhenomFaz posted on 23 Dec 2012, 22:52 2 1

The Note can only be beaten by the Note 3

43. AnTuTu posted on 23 Dec 2012, 13:47 2 1

I don't think it is a Note 2 killer. If you really want to compare this phone with Note 2 then you have to look at whole package what Samsung and Huawei has provided you. And moreover this one is way to big to handle as a phone as compare to Note 2.

I would call "Huawei Ascend Mate" a real phablet with phone functionality in it. On the other hand Note 2 is still a superb and powerful smartphone ever so far which is easy to handle.

But I do appreciate Huawei's efforts in this beast as well.

Note 2 9.5/10 (on the basis of hardware specs)
Huawei Ascend Mate 9/10 (on the basis of hardware specs )

54. chemhaz posted on 23 Dec 2012, 16:02 1

By the time it comes to market it'll be a mediocre device and Sammy will be pushing the Note III .

Just like the Ascend P1 was meant to be the S2 killer, the Mate will also fail to deliver on time. The problem with Huawei is they ramp up hype with concept one off devices and deliver the goods late. "Hold off on their purchase”, sorry I already got my LTE Note II last week. I won't be looking back for the mythical Ascend Mate.

59. skymitch89 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 20:06 1

The only thing about this device that could even be remotely a Note 2 killer would be the fact that it has a 1080p display. Everything else, I am sure, will fail in comparison. The Note 2 is way better in the simple fact that it can do A LOT more than this can.

65. thelegend6657 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 21:51 1 2

I told many people in this site that both Samsung and apple products are overpriced , but they won't listen

2. PapaSmurf posted on 23 Dec 2012, 07:57 3 5

The phone itself looks huge, but I think Huawei finally got their UI right. 1.8GHz quad core!

30. richardyarrell2011 (banned) posted on 23 Dec 2012, 10:25 11 1

Huawei has ''PRETTY SOFT SPECS''. The Galaxy Note 3 will have the bendable 6.3 Inch 1080p screen, 2.0 ghz quadcore Exynos Arm cortex A-15 5450 with the ARM MALI T604 GPU, 3gb of ram,16 megapixel rear camera, 3.0 front facing camera, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, 128gb of storage, 4200 mAh battery. Sounds to me like Huawei doesn't stand any chance against the Galaxy Note 3 nothing will....http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/13854/20121219/samsung-galaxy-note-3-release-date-2013.htm

71. Murfpass posted on 24 Dec 2012, 01:16 1

As much as I wish that those specs were true for the Note III, we all know that they aren't. The Note III will be a much better phone than what is out but it won't have near the specs that idigitaltimes is saying.

78. MistB posted on 25 Dec 2012, 07:30 1

Digitimes is actually very credible this time as the source comes directly from Samsung themselves, not directly.

86. richardyarrell2011 (banned) posted on 08 Jan 2013, 18:26

Exactly...Digitimes as well as Samsung directly on it's facebook page and twitter page stated the same specs. Now it's possible some kind of changes or add ons might exist as far as the Galaxy Note 3 is concerned. But they are not far off of the expected specs that's for sure.

6. darac posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:11 5 1

This can't replace the phone!
Look at it - just too big..and has even more bezel than the Note 2.
So I don't see this competing with phablets at all

7. champ_vl posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:12 5 1

This Phablet is too damn BIG !! The Note models already push the limit of pocketability but Huawei surpassed it. I own a Samsung Note N7000 and I know what I`m talking about.

9. AliNSiddiqui posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:19 7 1

"If you had a phone with a 6.1 inch screen in your pocket, could you really keep quiet about it until CES in January?" A phone this big wouldn't fit in my pocket. I am glad that I just got the Note II. FLAWLESS DEVICE. Vest android device to date. Also, is this Huawei device going to get any updates? Note doesn't look too big because it has the SPen, this is way way too big

14. dan86 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:32 2

Justice with the power section that they chose to put 4000 mAh considering the huge screen

17. _Bone_ posted on 23 Dec 2012, 08:53 3 1

Okay, based on the full frontal photo, screen size, aspect ratio, some measurements and simple math, the phone physical size came in at 162.8 x 85 x 9.6 mm (report).

The Note II is 151 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm
The Droid DNA is 141 x 70,5 x 9.73 mm
The Razr HD is 131.9 x 67.9 x 8.4 mm
And the iPhone 5 is 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm

What a beast!
