The HTC One A9 is coming to AT&T this Friday; here are the details

As falls from grace go, HTC is the unfortunate current poster boy. The flagship One M7 launched to much fanfare and critical acclaim back in 2013; lauded for its slick, metallic unibody design and top-end specs. Sure, the camera wasn't all that great, but after years of understatement epitomized by its 'quietly brilliant' slogan, it felt as though the Taiwanese firm had finally arrived. 

Skip forward a couple of years, and regrettably, it feels like HTC is disappearing on us. The follow-up One M8 and this year's One M9 simply haven't brought enough to the table. With rapidly emerging Asian firms like OnePlus, Huawei and Xiaomi all adding to the fierce and competitive nature of the smartphone market, HTC is struggling for ideas while hemorrhaging quite a lot of money in the process. The One A9, although packed with decent features, arrives with plenty of ground to make up, and even if it does manage to capture the imagination of consumers, will surely only paper the cracks of its maker's downward spiral. 

Running Android 6.0 Marshmallow accompanied by HTC's own Sense 7 overlay, the One A9 offers a 5-inch, 1080 x 1920 AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 SoC and 3 gigs of RAM. There's also a 13-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, 24-bit hi-res sound, and a microSD slot for those in search of additional storage. 

AT&T will have the A9 available from Friday for $99.99 including a two-year plan. Meanwhile, the device will be sold at $17.34 per month on the Next 24 plan, $21.67 on the Next 18 plan, or $26 via AT&T's Next 12 package.
