It's always sad when things don't work out the way they were planned. About two years ago, News Corp. launched one of the first iPad-only newspapers - The Daily. It was an ambitious project that, unfortunately, failed to attract enough audience...

Newspapers and their successors are to blame for their own demise. Instead of asking themselves "How do make people read more newspapers" they should have asked themselves "How do we make money on this internet thing?" Flash forward to today and everyone is used to getting their news for free from Yahoo! News, CNN, New York Times, and local/regional papers that offer it up for free everyday. People have gotten used to that. And although two years ago, it made sense to release this only for the iPad...it doesn't so much nowadays. Android will eclipse iOS in terms of tabs very soon for the same reasons it did for smartphones. Limiting yourself to the iPad isn't a smart decision...although Droiders aren't known for spending money either.

Then again...I wish most of Rupert Murdoch's products are failures...

It was probably catered for the wrong target audience. Most Fox News (NewsCorp) viewers probably don't even own an iPad.

I confess to taking glee in its demise. I never liked seeing iPad/iPhone-only content products succeed.

The demise is probably also part of the overall restructuring of NewsCorp into two companies -- one that's content publishing (to be headed by the WSJ editor) and the other, faster-growing entertainment (think film and TV), which will use the Fox name.

Interesting how FoxNews is entertainment...
