The Apple iPhone 6 rumored to come with 1GB of RAM aboard
0. phoneArena 18 Aug 2014, 05:50 posted on
As September nears, it is more than natural that one of the hottest topics in the mobile industry right now, the upcoming Apple iPhone 6, or whatever it ends up being called in the end, is the subject to even more rumors and speculations, most of which will turn out to be false. Of course, it's impossible to know which ones actually hold water beforehand, at least until Tim Cook gets on stage and unveils Cupertino's next champion...

Hope it's not true.1GB ram is enough to run iOS smooth but for better multitasking and future proofing hardware with better specs so it can get real update rather than features ripped update and for high end games is not enough. 1GB in 2014, from any view whether it be fanboy's or tech geek's view is not enough. Hope it's at least 2GB. Even moto E and G got 1GB ram so why not this supercostly iPhone doesn't ???????

Wow! Most anticipated gadget of the year with that huge, monstrous 1024 mb of ram. Great Apple. Ha ha ha ha.

Arte-8800 would probably say "Bogus 1GB ram and Bogus 64-bit Operating System"
Atleast We can have silence from stupid flame wars and unnecessary Spamming on Phonearena :D

This is address to Phone Arena. Why the hell is my antivirus keep saying that threat has been detected every time I open your website Phone Arena?

maybe your antivirus detects the trolls and fanboys on PA :D

They have a TON of trackers on the PA website. I'm not surprised it's flagged as a suspicious site. They must be making a killing in advertising dollars.

That's because your system is detecting all of those iNfected iPhone 6 article rumours.

Right, because there's only one troll on one side of the OS debate. Asking for a stop to the flame wars here is like asking for perpetual motion.

No, Jakelee and Ninteysix are still here unfortunately. We are not safe from stupid flame wars

apple doesnt want the GB ram race xD
like megapixel race time before

Then it will lost its OS smoothness race.

A lot of fakes have been coming out of China and have been “created" by altering a real item / document
NB all real iPhone leaks have mentioned both 4.7" and 5.5 inch
This is faked using most likely the IP5S document and 1GB
Also as this has be cited as a leak with NO 5.5" details to work with, faking it and getting it wrong proves it was fake, that is why ONLY the 4.7 is mentioned.
Finally all the 4.7" mid to high end phone all come with 2 GB Ram.
The 4.7" will be 1.5GB Ram minimum if it and the 5.5" are not BOTH 2GB, waht theey wont be is 1Gb
To only have just the 4.7" figure is the first time it has been leaked on own
The recent leaks e.g. Lumia 830 and Note 5 defy common sense in that both Nokia and Samsung are staging events where the press have been invited, now someone completely off the grid get the scoop
121. engineer-1701d (Posts: 2237; Member since: 13 Mar 2014)
hey philip dont know if you know this but the 5.5 as of last month was put on hold to see how the bigger phone works out in sales, plus big thing here is the phones are made in china so dont you think the person that got paid for the leak would not waste jail in china time for fake news. ? not a preacher
but the real reason they dont need bigger ram they said this was only going to be bigger 5s with nfc. nothing more.

That's what they're all about at Apple, innovating new ways to milk more. What really pisses me off though, is the perpetuation by so called tech journalists that it is Apple's optimizations that allow them to use less RAM. Limiting functionality to reduce RAM usage isn't optimization. The reason iPhones can get away with less RAM is because they literally have 0 multitasking/backgrounding capabilities. Also, it helps Apple with their planned obsolescence strategy and idiots praising them for their "optimizations" only help perpetuate this anti-consumer behavior.

Thank you buy if they have widget watch how it will lag
122. engineer-1701d (Posts: 2237; Member since: 13 Mar 2014)
my god if apple had on screen widgets and multitask it would crash and flame up every few hours. big screen bigger gpu and maybe cpu from 1 or 2 core to a quad core with one bg ram and a 64bit it would take 30 to 60 sec to open an app or screen change.
88. 0xFFFF (Posts: 3806; Member since: 16 Apr 2014)
It's not just because there is no multitasking. It's because virtually every benchmark and review of the iPhone does not reflect a wide range of real world usage cases.
For example, once you load up Safari with the maximum number of open tabs and have a few other apps "semi-tasking", you will find that you will have to reload some or all of your tabs in Safari because the OS is out of RAM. This can be terrible if you have a slow (or no) data connection at the time.
There are many other examples. All it takes is one big app to hog all the memory and then maximal swapping will ensue. And if you want to see how lame an iPhone is for "power users", this is one easy way to do it.
100. Finalflash (Posts: 2134; Member since: 23 Jul 2013)
The benchmark thing is a very sad state of affairs concerning Apple and the tech media bias towards them. Pure theoretical tests like Antutu aren't allowed on iOS so far and the upcoming release version of Antutu already shows that Apple hardware is quite a bit behind its Android equivalents. The current suite of benchmarks are highly rigged towards Apple because they test things that are dependent on screen resolution where Apple will win due to a lower resolution. Tests that open webpages 10 000 times will always do better on Apple devices because the resolutions of those webpages will be far lower. Tests concerning off-screen 1080p drawing is usually give or take between the PowerVR chips and Adreno/Mali.

2GB of ram is the innovation of the 2015 iPhone.

EWW only 1GB? that was like 4yrs ago when we all had 1GB of ram. man feel really sorry now especially with a tiny lil battery.
2. tech2 (Posts: 2975; Member since: 26 Oct 2012)
I've already seen many instances of app crashes on my roommates' iPad 4 due to limited RAM when playing high graphic intensive games. If this is true and with the ever expanding features in iOS 8 it will seriously hamper the reliability of the device.

...people complaining about Note 4 not having 4GB Ram.lol
68. register (unregistered)
There are some who says note 4 will lag with 4GB Ram. LOL. Imagine how innovative iphone 6 will perform with 1 GB Ram.
92. LetsBeHonest (Posts: 1150; Member since: 04 Jun 2013)
Those might be some haters. I'd hands on with a note 3 and it work so smooth and he showed me multi windows feature which is awesome and lag free. But i did heard some saying S5 lags don't know whether its true or false. And i know touch wiz is kinda resource hog and seen lag on some low-mid range phones(core and grand).android phones I've seen like M8,moto x,note 3 are lag free. Also low end phones like moto E,G,xperia Micromax unite 2 are lag free too.
but no phone is completely lag free, even WP and iOS .
and true iphone perform pretty good with 1GB ram but feature wise both iPhone and WP are behind android. Especially in multitasking where android rocks. And note series need more ram since they've come pack with some cool features like multi window etc.

Mean while GALAXY NOTE 4GB if rumor of ram. While everyone else have 3GB.

Oh wow! It just doesn't seem to be enough to me. They should have given it at least 2 for future proofing. Maybe I'm wrong though.
17. JC557 (Posts: 1237; Member since: 07 Dec 2011)
You're probably not though seeing as how the iPhone 3G and 3GS had a discrepancy when it came to future iOS updates and features in those updates. Unless of course Apple forgoes the multitasking and sticks with the current scheme but even still. Apps will get more advanced or more features may be implemented which more often than not requires more RAM, especially if they want to make full use of that 64-bit processors.
We'll find out in a month.
5. Planterz (Posts: 1586; Member since: 30 Apr 2012)
Oh wow, a WHOLE GIG?!?!? The iPhone 5/s/c might work ok with 1gb, but with more pixels to push, 1gb might not be enough.
90. Commentator (Posts: 2850; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
I'm sure it will work fine as is, but this also means there probably won't be any real innovation to multitasking. Multi-window support would be pretty awesome, especially on the larger iPhone.
6. Zomer (Posts: 125; Member since: 31 May 2013)
Come on 1GB? It's 2014 Apple. I know iOS is optimized, but Safari on my iPad Air is crashing all the time on certain pages because it doesn't have enough memory. The iPhone 5S is performing better, but that is probably caused by the lower res screen.
7. xperiaDROID (banned) (Posts: 5629; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
At least give us 2GB RAM, 2GB RAM is already a very easy job for you because your iPhone costs more than an Android device with 3GB RAM.
1GB RAM? Unless it's the iPhone 6C. But iPhone 6? Good luck on the heavy multitasking, Apple.

IF you/we/customers simply accept everything our bellowed company sells & buys it and shows full satisfaction(even if we aren't though u might be:)) then they'll never change or upgrade. But by showing our feedbacks whether it be positive or negative or be it offensive then they'll have no choice but to give us what we want, not what they want us to use. Customers satisfaction plays a great role in succes of a Business. Give credit where its due and don't give credit where its not due:)

Ram is reserved for 2015 maybe 2016 if iPhone 6 sales is still good.

1gb is sufficient for ios
i never had face any problem with 1gb ram on iphone 5
sometimes apps crashes but i dont think it is because of ram....
19. fanboy1974 (Posts: 1313; Member since: 12 Nov 2011)
I traded my iPhone 5s for a Note 3 because of all the memory crashes I received. And I refuse to buy an ipad with only 1 gig. Huge mistake on Apple's part. I'm starting to realize that iOS may be limited to this amount or they don't want app developers to exploit a weakness in idevices with less than 1 gig.
It should cost no more than $2 to $5 for Apple to increase ram from 1 to 2 gig which is peanuts for a better experience. This rumor better not be true.
45. frydaexiii (Posts: 1386; Member since: 01 Dec 2011)
It's not about the money, it's because if the next iteration of the iPhone has no new features to tout, then they can rise the RAM and brag about it. They're just saving it for a rainy day, not to bring the best they can to customers.
61. Deaconclgi (Posts: 395; Member since: 03 Nov 2012)
An increase of $2 X 10 million sales equals 20,000,000 additional cost for Apple....if my fuzzy math is to be believed. Tim Cook may have said "It is both worth the extra expense, our target users won't know the difference and we will not publish that information on the retail box to avoid comparisons with competing devices." Yeah....just like that. /s
63. fanboy1974 (Posts: 1313; Member since: 12 Nov 2011)
What about this talk of Sapphire glass which would be crazy expensive compared to increasing the ram. Or what about the screen increase, touchID or the faster processor? 2 gigs of ram should be on par or even cheaper.
If these new iDevices don't get more than 1 gig something is not possible within iOS. Makes no sense really.
126. engineer-1701d (Posts: 2237; Member since: 13 Mar 2014)
they that 20. mil apple paid that is like 20 cent will be paid back since they raise the phone price as well with the new one. also its the cheapest phone to build look at a tear down on it. i build them to make extra cash and they are cheap parts. they make 500 on each phone.
20. JC557 (Posts: 1237; Member since: 07 Dec 2011)
Okay but this new iPhone will have a larger display, more advanced apps and games will be released in the future, especially those that may take advantage of the 64-bit processor. Then there are also future iOS updates to think about and features that may require more working RAM.
I hope this rumor proves to be false.
23. LetsBeHonest (Posts: 1150; Member since: 04 Jun 2013)
For better multitasking
For better future hardware so we receive real full features os updates
For multiwindowing apps
For better browsing experience
Moto E,G works smooth and fast with 1GB ram but we ask more ram on Moto X/X+1
