The Apple iPad was responsible for 88% of tablet based Black Friday shopping

0. phoneArena posted on 25 Nov 2012, 15:14

What are people doing with their Android tablets? It certainly isn't web browsing or shopping as the Apple iPad was responsible for 88% of the shopping done with a tablet on Black Friday; Apple's tablet is also responsible for 91% of web browsing on a slate...

Got to say, that last line took me by surprise !!!!!!!!

+1 for you Alan F.

It doesn't matter where the past was. What matters is where the future will be :)

I'm surprised the percentage wasn't higher...given apple's efforts to keep other tabs off the shelves.

4. Jurdiales posted on 25 Nov 2012, 15:51 1 1

Man, i think you need to read the note again, its based on black friday shopping, not in black friday tablet sales...

BTW, i'm surprised about people using the ipad for other tasks, not only taking photos of food on instagram...

13. JeffdaBeat posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:07 1

I use my to read, watch movies, surf the web, play board games with my roommates, write lyrics, thump out chords to for possible songs, check work email, order take out, play music, look up directions, and sometimes I'll put it on a stand to record a live show...in addition to Instagram (but they don't make an iPad Instagram app)

15. darkkjedii posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:25 1

They just don't wanna know how good the iPad really is bro.

17. Jurdiales posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:32 1

i'm not saying the ipad is a bad tablet, but is ackward to see people in fb smiling like stupids in front the mirror with a big square... and people taking photos on food... that's vulgar... i used the ipad as an example for all the tablets...

Marketing. Even here, I live in Africa, I was aware of this event and I knew Apple was cutting prices on several things.

5. networkdood posted on 25 Nov 2012, 16:10 1

I never really use my phones or tablet to shop - maybe just look - if I am home, I am definitely using my PC to shop. Then, again, I am not a shopaholic.

7. networkdood posted on 25 Nov 2012, 16:16

I did use my phone once to get something on ebay, last second transaction win....

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Infographic-How-big-was-the-jump-in-online-and-mobile-commerce-for-Black-Friday_id36975

Basically, if you put the two articles together you get that iPads accounted for 88% of tablet-based shopping on Black Friday, and that overall, 10% of all shopping on Black Friday was done on iPads.

Remember, sometimes, when the moon is at "certain position", PhoneArena becomes iPhoneArena, and the site becomes bloated with Apple News... that's the sad true here...

9. Commentator posted on 25 Nov 2012, 16:44 2 2

Why is that a sad truth? They bloat the site with plenty of Android and WP news too. That's kind of the point isn't it?

11. ajac09 posted on 25 Nov 2012, 16:55 1 2

they rarely push android or anyone else. If its icrap they make sure to let the ENTIRE world know. If its not anything IOS they quietly make articles that make you scratch your head and wonder if they even tried to research

18. darkkjedii posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:33 2 1

Ur post is a complete lie. PA gives all these tech companies that same amount of attention. Apple is a big kid on the block, and has a lot of news worthy stuff going on, PA is a tech news site... So what the heck r they supposed to do, eliminate apple just to satisfy some closed minded, narrow minded android fans. I think not.

20. darkkjedii posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:38 1

Oh, and one more thing. If u don't like the site due to its reporting of apple news, then STHOI. pretty easy to figure those letters out.

22. Commentator posted on 25 Nov 2012, 18:08 2

So, uh, about that: I just performed an extremely scientific experiment that involved a LOT of numbers (I even counted to one-hundred!) and I won't go into the details of it because they're pretty complex (I did a lot of page-skimming) but the results are as follows: of the last 100 PA articles, exactly 10 (+/- 1) articles had to do with Apple. This means that the 10% that PA reports on Apple is actually far less than the 25% or so of smartphone users in the world that use Apple products. Thus it would behoove PA to actually report more on Apple. QED.

(I spent like 45 seconds of my life conducting this experiment, show some gratitude please.)

The android fans won't be happy until the windows phone and iOS news is completely gone. I've found android fans on this site more close minded than those on other sites. Nothing wrong with loving what you love, but no need to get their panties in a twist if there's a few apple articles, they're part of the market too, like it or not.

14. chaoticrazor posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:18 2 1

exactly, perfectly said

when there flood of android articles they still complain anyway. and when one out of say 5 articles is on apple straight away the ''iphonearena'' comments appear

its not just android fanboys on here, others want to hear about windows, bb, ios etc im sure there are sites that just deal with android they should go there....but then they wouldnt be able to slate people for what they choose to use

16. darkkjedii posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:27 1 1

As usual u r right on point bro. Good post.

19. Jurdiales posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:35 1

well, everyone complains about everything, applefans complains about android, androidfans complains applefans, wpfans complains for both, nobody is happy, so... peace!

something in common is that we're talking about RIM's death...

21. chaoticrazor posted on 25 Nov 2012, 17:47 1

nope i dont want bb to go into the pages of history, im hoping for bb10 to bring them back. im bored of the 2 os's with the hordes behind them

wp8 has started gaining traction and i hope will make it a 3 way. theres always room for more.

yes everyones complains but certain ones on here go beyond that, they make it a priority to slag off apple or windows etc. im focusing on the android fanboys as the past 2 weeks they have really got up themselves and have developed a undeserved superiority complex just because they use android

23. Jurdiales posted on 25 Nov 2012, 18:29 1

whatever, i dont want to fight...

im hoping for more OS's too, because it makes that OS developers create more features, and it creates a more competitive ecosystem, like the automotive market, for example.

24. chaoticrazor posted on 25 Nov 2012, 18:32 1

i dont get that, no one here is trying to start a fight you said your ''opinion'' i gave mine

and true more competition means company's will step there game up or risk been forgotten

10. ajac09 posted on 25 Nov 2012, 16:53

Seeing as how most android tablets are not 3g(or 4g) enabled and people are out and about I dont think we would see other wise..

new article on apple...coming soon to P.A.

26. jphillips63 posted on 25 Nov 2012, 20:53

Well I'm one of the guilty parties who purchased the new ipad on Black Friday. Apple had it 61.00 cheaper so I jumped on it. Google really is bad at marketing I'm afraid I was hoping to see the Nexus 10 in some stores on BF but that didn't happen so I bit the bullet and got the Ipad 4 in 64 gig. I have an original Xoom and this Ipad blows the xoom out with screen resolution and how accurate the colors are. As a Photgrapher I need a screen to show the accuracy of my work and the xoom just didn't do that.

27. sudbury78 posted on 25 Nov 2012, 23:06

I've switched my allegiance to android phones after 3 years of iOS but nothing can or will touch the iPad. Stop kidding yourselves.

28. Twisted247 posted on 26 Nov 2012, 03:18

Ya big deal Apple was the higher shopped tablet on black Friday just like Obama was reelected, this just proves the Sheeple are still alive and well.
Apple followers are like Obama followers = blindly follow what they are told without question, and accept when they are told what is good for them. Rather then doing research and making an informed decision.

So sad. .
