Many people call App.net a competitor to Twitter, and on a functional level that is true, but more accurately App.net wants to be everything that Twitter can never be because of the path the company has taken. Now App.net has its first app, called Hooha...

Um, Twitter isn't bad, like Facebook is. The advertising is pretty minimal and tasteful, the Twitter API is actually very easy to work with, and unlike Facebook they don't turn over your info freely like Facebook did on Occupy members.
