Telstra source calls Motorola X Phone (or Key Lime Pie) a "game-changer"

0. phoneArena posted on 13 Feb 2013, 08:59

This is one of those rumors that we are extra wary about, because the information in it is so vague that it sounds less like a rumor and more like a marketing leak. We're all eager to hear more about the Motorola X Phone, but if you're looking for hard information, that's not what we have here. This morning we have a report that a source inside Telstra, an Australian telecom/media company, says that the Motorola X Phone (or perhaps Key Lime Pie) is a "game-changer"...

Neither can I. Finally yes to an Android phone. Motorola for me.

I'm bot entirely convinced on what Motorola's offering until they change their attitude about updating phones.

Good you are a BOT (as u write) entirely convinced ... convinced or not but looks like you confessed that you are a BOT :D

Already happened. The only one of Motorola's current offerings not already on Jelly Bean is the Photon Q. The update has also been promised for the original Razr and Maxx. The updates have also come fast after ICS.

68. Mxyzptlk posted on 13 Feb 2013, 15:30 1 2

Promised and delivering are two different things. They've promised to update phones before only for them to turn around and change their mind.

73. Sniggly posted on 13 Feb 2013, 19:46 1 1

They only turned around and changed their minds once. In fact, their track record previous to the Tegra 2 was to do about faces and update phones they had previously decided wouldn't be updated.

Right now for 2012 phones they're 4 for 6 in updating to Jelly Bean.

77. rusticguy posted on 13 Feb 2013, 23:41 1

Yup that's why Apple never promises anything to be safe.

81. jacko1977 posted on 04 Mar 2013, 16:57

how is maps working for ya

64. Berzerk000 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 14:42 3

The Razr M, Razr (Maxx) HD, and Atrix HD are all on Jelly Bean, with the original Razr (Maxx) waiting to be rolled out within the next month.

And didn't all of those Jelly Bean updates come out in December, just 3 months after release (not including the Atrix HD)?

So, they updated 4 devices in the same month. Yup, they sure have a bad attitude about updating... Shame shame.

78. jsdechavez posted on 14 Feb 2013, 00:36

I think Goggle is going too fast with the upgrade. The phone manufacturers are still working on their Jellybean upgrades and the low-end is still yet to taste ICS. Fragmentation issues worsen with this..

18. darac posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:49 7 1

I'm more curious about the KLP.
Something tells me Google is baking up one delicious, amazing OS

2. erdpov posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:06

I wish this phone good luck! I like the fact wp8 is going to face all the power of android army.

22. pookiewood posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:58 5

I'm a WP8 user (Lumia 920) and I don't get your comment. Android has nothing to Worry about seeing their market share. It's like a pitbull vs a Chihuahua. I really want WP8 to keep gaining market share but I know the reality is that it would take years to catch Android.

3. Joshing4fun posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:07 4

Price will determine if this is a real "game-changer" for me.

7. gmracer1 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:16 6 1

It's most likely gonna be in the $200-$300, on-contract, range...and I would gladly pay $300. My guess on main specs = 4.8"-5" 1080p screen, 460ppi, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage (with an avail MicroSD slot), Key Lime Pie, HDMI-out, kevlar backing and reinforced metal body with nano-coating,13MP rear camera/2MP front cam, 3500mAh battery.

You all can stop drooling now :o)

14. rusticguy posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:39 4

Google's involvement and you can forget about sdcard. They just don't like the idea

20. gmracer1 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:51 7 1

99% of Androids have MicroSD card slots. People still want them (I sure do). I hope Google doesn't nix them o.O

36. MichaelHeller posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:57 5

Google has essentially already killed SD in Nexus devices, so I wouldn't expect to see it in the X Phone. SD cards are good for some users, but they cause issues with widgets and other things that need to load on boot, so Google wants to phase them out.

49. CanYouSeeTheLight posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:18 4

This. Gmracer1, Google already said there will be no SD card on Nexus devices, don't even think about it.

54. noim1 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:44 2 2

WEll if thats the case then i want at least 64 GB storage...the versions should be like 64GB & 128GB...then i will grin lik my avatar ..

59. Phullofphil posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:56 2

This is not a nexus device just a phone that is getting key lime first or maybe not. All the nexus devices could get key lime before launch. Pluse the x is suposed to have a light versiom of moto blur acording to rumers. Giving that its cheaper to produce a 16 gb phone with a sd card I would not count it out. It will probably be based off of yhe razer line in production so it might use the same mother board or whatever you call it with better hard ware so having a sd card in ther might happen. I give it a 50 50 chance of it not only having one but 50 50 cgance of being called a nexus device with og android with no moto blur. I dont care either way except for the updat timline because moto blure is mostly just widgets on stock android and not a memmory and battery hog touchwiz and sence is

61. MichaelHeller posted on 13 Feb 2013, 13:09 2

It won't carry the Nexus name, because Moto is a "separate" company, and Nexus is Google's brand, but Google still has control over what is coming. That would likely mean no SD slot, but it will have NFC, and I wouldn't be surprised if it worked with the Wireless Charging Orb.

60. gmracer1 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 13:05 4

Makes sense. Hopefully the X Phone will have, at least, 32GB storage!

71. Dr.Phil posted on 13 Feb 2013, 16:25 1

32GB would be a given (at least I would think). If a phone like the HTC One X+ can have 64GB of storage for $200 on-contract, I would assume that the X phone could have at least 32GB for the $200-$300 on-contract price.

65. buccob posted on 13 Feb 2013, 14:43 3

This is true to some extent.... I used to have issues on my Atrix with apps installed on SD, but the implementation on the Galaxy S3 I had and my current Sony Xperia Acro S, is that the microSD card is used for multimedia purposes (pictures, music, videos, and documents..) but not apps... those are installed in the internal memory with option to place them on the media partition of the (same) memory.

This solution bothers many people who cant (without help of third party apps or rooting etc) install apps on the external SD card... BUT at least this is a helpful way to keep tons of music and movies on the phone.

It is still better than no microSD at all... I wish Google would implement it this way... still forcing apps in the internal memory, but letting people place music and movies which are the heavy weighters on the external side.

69. pixel8or posted on 13 Feb 2013, 15:50 2

I've not seen Google handle SD storage correctly yet, so as long as they at least offer 32GB on board, doesn't bother me.

15. Joshing4fun posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:46 2

Well I mean off-contract price. No way am I signing a contract with Verizon.

29. bparkerson posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:31 1

Price, of course, is important but if cheap is what you want there are plenty of second rate, budget friendly devices out there. Hell, the Moto X will too in time. What I want to see is a kick ass device that has EVERYTHING customers are wanting. I'm so tired of having to settle because this device lacks this that device lacks that. I want an awesome all around device and I am willing to pay for it. I use my phone more than any other device I can think of, for both work and play, so I don't worry about getting my money's worth!

4. gmracer1 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:07 4 3

There is a Phone God :D

8. bizwhizzy posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:19 6

agreed. because right now, like god, we have nothing but blind faith telling us it exists and that it is awesome.

6. cncrim posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:15 3 1

Phone looking good cant wait see it.

10. speckledapple posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:32 3

we have great phones with pretty great battery life and some solid software with hardware to match. Right now I want to see the future smartphones focus more on the capabilities of the software and getting the most out of the hardware rather than adding so much more tech after tech after tech.

11. rusticguy posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:33 1

Pressure on both Samsung and Apple would always be ideal situation and major point that could be game changer is PRICE ...

12. sasch posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:35 1

as long as the battery life is better then the nexus 4, it is pathetic

19. MichaelHeller posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:49 8

Really? The Nexus 4 is the first phone I've had that can last all day with the way I use it. How long does your battery tend to last?

34. shnibz posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:52 1

I'm sure the battery life will be good, it is a Moto after all. My Razr M last EASILY 3x as long as my Galaxy Nexus did (with upgraded 2100 mah battery)

35. shnibz posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:53 1

And Razr battery is actually smaller 2000 mah if I'm not mistaken.

53. KingKurogiii posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:28 2 1

it's because of that smaller S4 that it uses with it's integrated LTE radios.

57. CanYouSeeTheLight posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:49 2

You are right, Motorola stuffs huge batteries into slim bodies the RAZR HD is 4,7" and has a 2500mah battery i should expect no less than that for the X Phone.

17. protozeloz posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:48 7

I don't want to feed this rumor with more fire, but maybe some of the Google glass features are integrated into the OS maybe we see a device that needs no navigation buttons on the front and is intuitive and easy to use (enough changes to justify the 5.0 tag)

Maybe they will have more and more stuff integrated (like a single message hub rumored since the message center on chrome OS) or some desktop mode (load the OS in tablet UI when connected to a TV) and who knows what speed improvement we could see along the road....

But looking at Google's change log history
3.x made tablets ui
4.x integrated both phone and tablet experiences

I could see some interesting changes (Google is already hinting gestures all over the OS with newest updates and I don't see why they should stop )

But this is just speculation as sometimes it could simply be marketing...

21. gmracer1 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 09:53 4

I like your idea of the Google Glass integration! Maybe the phone and glasses could sync!

46. protozeloz posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:01 2

I think the possibilities are endless we also need support for app backup on google drive with no need for root, that would be awesome

56. jroc74 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:46 1

Ok, I'll play along:

Maybe its an update to Google Now? Or the Play Store gets overhauled? I like what you posted tho.

One thing I hate about rumors....when they turn out to be wrong....ppl base their opinions off the rumors.

67. protozeloz posted on 13 Feb 2013, 15:05 1

Some rumors become true, its all about how possible the things of the rumor are

23. takay0 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:00 2

=\ this phones are goin to fast! i just wanted to buy the HTC one... now maybe i'll buy this phone?! its like every 2 months another phone comes out and its a better one...

62. amiroo posted on 13 Feb 2013, 13:11

i still prefer htc one ..

24. imkyle posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:02 1

I'm wondering if the Nexus 4 will get all the "features" this Motorola X will get after the Key lime pie update..

37. MichaelHeller posted on 13 Feb 2013, 11:00 2

Any features in KLP will be in the Nexus 4 when it gets the update. The real question is whether the X Phone will be running stock Android or not.

58. imkyle posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:54

I'm thinking it should if it will be announced at Google I/O. I know people would be very upset it if wasnt.

50. CanYouSeeTheLight posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:20 3

You are confusing Google with Apple, Apple is the one who "cuts features" from older devices so people end up buying new ones.

25. jroc74 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:02 2

I think we the users will decide if its a game changer. If its something that has already been done, most of us wont think its a game changer. If its somethings that ...meh...most of us wont think its a game changer.

Even tho it wasnt the first phone to do it....the orig Atrix with Webtop and the laptop dock and the Samsung phone with that projector built in were game changers IMO. Too bad neither feature really took off.

The Nokia 920 with that amazing camera and software is a game changer IMO. I even think the Nokia before the 920 that had that great camera was a game changer.

Game changer? We shall see....

27. jroc74 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:22 1

Left out the Dell Streak and Samsung Note. A real tablet/phone hybrid.

39. MichaelHeller posted on 13 Feb 2013, 11:01 4

The Note was a proper phablet. The Streak was too far ahead of the curve. Android 2.x just couldn't be a phablet OS.

45. jroc74 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 11:49 1

I agree. The Streak was just size. The Note was size and features.

52. Sniggly posted on 13 Feb 2013, 12:27 2

Didn't the Streak also initially ship with 1.6? Dell fumbled badly with that one.

26. lucasho2312 posted on 13 Feb 2013, 10:06 1

one thing I hope Motorola wont change about their phone is the battery. or mayb they surprise us with an even more superior one, say 4k mah
