0. phoneArena posted on 02 May 2012, 15:29

Target has decided to stop selling the Amazon Kindle line and has already removed the devices from its website; stores will be able to sell off their remaining inventory and Kindle accessories will still be offered by the stores...

Hold up what kind of business decision is this? Seems like it smell like Apple gave them some sort of contract that states that they cannot get the Apple store whilst selling Apple's competitors products. Target of all places stop selling Kindles and will stock iPads? Weird things continue to happen in the tech arena.

22. jcpwn2004 posted on 02 May 2012, 16:54 1

seriously....seems kind of anti competitive. I don't know why target would do this...i think most people wanting an ipad would buy it from an apple store or best buy.

Target has been selling iPads for some time now. Please check your facts.

Yup, Apple throwing money around again. Its 1 thing if you pay to get a special place to sell and advertise your product, its another to pay and have the product removed from the store itself.

3. jmoita2 posted on 02 May 2012, 15:51 8

There goes Apple again trying to control absolutely everything. And what happened to consumer choice? And what is Apple afraid of?

4. gallitoking posted on 02 May 2012, 15:55 7

you still have a choice.. shop some where else.. many stores to choose from.. there you still have choices.. now grow up

7. 14545 posted on 02 May 2012, 16:02 3

Seriously, stop trolling. We get it, you love iOS. No need to continue commenting without ever adding anything of substance. You grow up.

9. gallitoking posted on 02 May 2012, 16:04 3

never mention I loved iOs. just showing that he still have choices.. nothing wrong with that.. last time i checked I am entitled to my opinion.. last but not least.. who are you again?...

15. -box- posted on 02 May 2012, 16:17 3

@galittoking That is a good point. I won't shop at Target if they're going to be anti-competitive

20. jmoita2 posted on 02 May 2012, 16:33 3

Same here. How would anyone like to shop at a store that limits what you can spend your own hard earned money on simply because an anti competitive monopoly wants to force you to buy only their products?

28. Commentator posted on 02 May 2012, 18:08 2

Fine, don't shop for ANYTHING at a store simply because they don't agree with them because it contradicts your smartphone-philosophy that you've been embracing for the last two years, and apparently base your life choices on. While I don't necessarily agree with Target's decision, I'll still go there to get milk and clothes etc because I realize there's much more to life than imagining that Apple is this huge corporation that wants to steal my freedom of choice.

35. chadrick0814 posted on 02 May 2012, 21:00

Until apple releases iMilk and iBread and forces target to stop selling other brands. Exactly where are you willing to draw a line and stand for some principle?

40. Commentator posted on 03 May 2012, 00:17 1

Apple is never going to release iMilk and iBread, so stop with the conspiracy theories about how Apple is trying to take over the world. Apple's brand image focuses entirely on consumer electronics. Coca Cola doesn't make computers, General Motors doesn't make parmesan cheese, and Apple will never make anything but consumer electronics.

I'm not standing up for principle in this situation because it's clearly not warranted. I'm not going to concern myself about which billion-dollar corporation is working with which other billion-dollar corporation to screw over another billion-dollar corporation. This happens all the time between businesses, and they have every right to sell products at their own discretion. People need to stop acting like it's morally unjust that consumers can't get access to superfluous electronic goods. It would be a different story in my mind if Target was cutting out their grocery or pharmacy section because Apple said so. I just don't see how limiting access to a Kindle Fire is morally unacceptable.

6. 14545 posted on 02 May 2012, 16:00 4

They are afraid of people realizing that they sell and overpriced product that you can find though other avenues for more reasonable prices. IOW, kindle. Other than the storage limitations and an hd display, there isn't anything that makes an iOS product stand out over a Kindle.

10. gallitoking posted on 02 May 2012, 16:06 2

then Adroid fans should not worry right? , if they have a superior product.. why the fuzz then

29. Commentator posted on 02 May 2012, 18:24

Don't forget physical screen-size, front-facing camera, rear-facing camera (as if anybody actually cares about a rear-facing camera on a tablet...), the latest iteration of its respective OS, thickness, and build-materials. Objectively speaking, these are other things that most people consider to be advantages of the iPad.

Edit: I just realized you said "iOS product" instead of "iPad." Since the iPad is the Kindle's most direct competitor, I assumed that's what you meant. Also, the Kindle has a MAJOR advantage in price.

5. Slammer posted on 02 May 2012, 15:58 4

Conflict of interest? This is a retail store that bases its business on offering many different brands of products of many different departments to the consumers. This is a very interesting move on the part of Target. I don't hold stock in what they are claiming.

I don't necessarily agree either. However, what's interesting is the Walmart and Costo (other big name retailers) don't carry the K.Fire as well, I mean Amazon is like the Walmart of online retailers, could it possibly be some politics behind the scenes that's not clearly evident @ this point.

8. sid8912 posted on 02 May 2012, 16:04 2

you spelled amazon wrong

11. redrooster13 posted on 02 May 2012, 16:10

16. -box- posted on 02 May 2012, 16:18 5

Then again, maybe I could get a good deal on a new Fire if they're going out of inventory...

17. Non_Sequitur posted on 02 May 2012, 16:18 3

24. gallitoking posted on 02 May 2012, 17:05

19. -box- posted on 02 May 2012, 16:26 2

I wonder what the mini store is going to be like.... Walmart, with a counter with just apple stuff and a large logo? Best Buy, with a white wall with the apple logo and a slightly isolated section for apple stuff? or a glass box with a resident "genius"? As much as I can remember, there's not much room in any of the Targets I've been to recently for a separate brand, so they must be getting rid of something more or consolidating product on display. Maybe a smaller TV wall and smaller video game 'cage'?

23. nb2six posted on 02 May 2012, 16:56

They are getting rid of a bunch of the photo Departments in many Target locations so that could open up some space in the front of the store. I dont know how apt they would be to do so since that area is so close to the exit doors and would allow for easy swiping of product if by some chance they didnt lock things up.

25. taco50 (banned) posted on 02 May 2012, 17:31 1

Good move by Apple. Kindle fire isn't really a competitor anyway, but some uneducated customers may get tricked by a bad sales rep into buying it thinking it will be like an iPad.

26. networkdood posted on 02 May 2012, 17:55 1

Yeah, great move - buy an overpriced tablet with limited storage capacity, limited market ability, and limited...err none, USB connectivity.

27. taco50 (banned) posted on 02 May 2012, 18:04 1

Too bad it's rated the best tablet on the market

31. networkdood posted on 02 May 2012, 18:31

Lemmings do not know any better - look at the history of our country in terms of products:

NES beat SEGA, despite an inferior product.
Mac vs. Windows

It all comes down to how it is marketed and not the actual product.

43. Fallout09 posted on 03 May 2012, 06:57

You forgot.... VHS vs Betamax. HD DVD vs Bluray.

30. networkdood posted on 02 May 2012, 18:29 1

This move by Target typifies what APPLE wants - total domination by an inferior product. Using sly marketing to lure people into thinking that they are getting a great value for the products received.
APPLE hates choices, but do not entirely blame them - blame people, who are oblivious to the fact that there are choices out there, and for a better value.
Target must really be wanting APPLE's business so badly, that they arte willing to shut out the number 2 tablet on the market.
Luckily, the few and wise consumers, such as myself, know how to shop.
Speaking of shopping, why shop for anything in stores, when you can get it cheaper on sites like ebay or Amazon.com.

33. 14545 posted on 02 May 2012, 19:31

Other than food products, I generally agree. I hate going into stores shopping. I'm surprised people do still go into stores for things other than necessities.

32. Cisko56 posted on 02 May 2012, 18:47

Word on the street is that its not really an apple take over rather target is dimishing amazon products because Amazon.com is a huge competitor to the chain. I really dont like apple or its sheeps, but it really makes sense to stop selling products in your store if its making money for your competitor....

its like if burger kings started selling big macs, it just doesn't make sense.

37. chadrick0814 posted on 02 May 2012, 21:10

So now they can stop selling ipads from their mini apple store as they will be competing with the big apple store.

45. Cisko56 posted on 03 May 2012, 11:36

Not really, apple only focuses on selling their product, where as Amazon sells everything from clothes to electronics, Amazon is way more if a financial threat than apple.

34. tbacba posted on 02 May 2012, 19:42

It wouldn't be so bad if they just told the truth i.e., Apple told us we couldn't carry both. But for Target to eliminate a product under the guise of wanting to "deliver the best quality and prices for our guests" is pure BS. Liars.

36. chadrick0814 posted on 02 May 2012, 21:07

If you can't pay off judges to ban them then just pay off the stores. Well played Apple, well played!

38. Whateverman posted on 02 May 2012, 22:08

Wow, so what's next? Other phones, game systems, computers, maybe even TV's? Maybe the entire electronics and music section will be nothing but Apple products. Wouldn't that be horrible.

44. good2great posted on 03 May 2012, 09:18

i not only want to be wealthy but POWER with it is insane! this is true success:
