Talk about disgrace: Lenovo ships more smartphones than Nokia in Q3

0. phoneArena posted on 08 Nov 2012, 08:10

If a recent report by industry analyst Canalys is to be believed (and why shouldn't we believe it?), things don't look very well for Nokia. Actually, it's worse than we thought. According to the report, Nokia has continued its way to the bottom of the smartphone maker chart in Q3, and has shipped less units than many companies, including Lenovo, which is almost nonexistent in non-Asian markets...

Nokia is let down by MS repeatedly.

But dont they receive handout from MS? So they can't complain.

17. Wiki_jaan posted on 08 Nov 2012, 09:17 7 5

only meego and android can save Nokia

20. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 08 Nov 2012, 09:55 6 1

Nokia obviously can't go with Android b-c the contract with MS, and MeeGo is outdated and w/o a viable ecosystem.

Sad but the only hope for Nokia is WP8. It's maybe too late for Nokia.

28. an4564 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 13:37 3 2

Nokia picked the wrong side to join.

32. lyndon420 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 19:36 2

Yup. I bet they are kicking themselves now.

35. GENERAL-LEVY (banned) posted on 08 Nov 2012, 19:48 2

good. its all Eflops fault. WP has been failing for the past 10 years, what good would be WP8? Fail.

34. lyndon420 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 19:46 4 1

How many OEM's make phones for both ms and Android? Nokia could have been making Android handsets while ms got their sh*t together. It was very selfish of ms to force Nokia into an exclusive contract while every other OEM has options available to them. At the same time, it was very foolish of Nokia to bet the farm on just WP's.

I hope they can make a comeback though...same with RIM.

36. GENERAL-LEVY (banned) posted on 08 Nov 2012, 19:52

Hope they don't... Nokia RIM WP = FAIL

46. an4564 posted on 09 Nov 2012, 05:46

i would actually love to see rim come back. BB10 looks amazing.

4. RaKithAPeiRiZ posted on 08 Nov 2012, 08:20 3 1

Its time they bring Symbian,Meego to the low end sector

5. lubba posted on 08 Nov 2012, 08:20 1 2

I have this odd feeling that Nokia will falter under Eflop and the exclusivity game shows it.

Talk about disgrace... Does Lenovo have the quality assurance of Nokia?
Come on people, Nokia's collaboration with Microsoft just started...have patience.
Lenovo stuffs are prone to malfunctions and breakdowns.
Even the laptops...most of my friends owning the laptop, Lenovo laptop, complains about it.

9. Commentator posted on 08 Nov 2012, 08:47 11 2

Not that you or your friends are wrong, but everyone I've talked to about Lenovo says they make the sturdiest, most reliable laptops out there.

12. Nathan_ingx posted on 08 Nov 2012, 08:59 3

Then i have yet to see them.
People here don't recommend buying them...

15. redmd posted on 08 Nov 2012, 09:12 6 1

I have a Lenovo low end smartphone.so far no complains. and the price is winner.

18. Nathan_ingx posted on 08 Nov 2012, 09:18 2

Good for you my friend!

43. JamesHunt posted on 08 Nov 2012, 23:31 1

At that price it competes with Asha range of smart featurephones. Technically now S40 too is a smartphone ,as first iphone was also considered as a smartphone and Asha does a lot more. And Asha line is a great success, but not considered as smartphone. Nokia has no real marketed cheap smartphone. Some symbian phones here and there, but even nokia does not market them, instead Ashas are given more importance.

21. SleepingOz posted on 08 Nov 2012, 10:26 3 1

24. ChiX017 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 11:49

yeah, and so...

44. JamesHunt posted on 08 Nov 2012, 23:40 1

And you are proven Nokia troll. Evrything about nokia is wrong ,in your opinion. can i know the reason ?

Sony is third and before HTC and RIM ? Yay good news !!

22. Commentator posted on 08 Nov 2012, 10:58 1

That is a pleasant surprise. I would've thought LG would be there instead. If Sony can get its act together it can be just as formidable as Samsung. They've had their troubles recently, but they have their hands in everything.

29. an4564 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 13:43

with Kazuo Hirai as CEO i believe sony can come back and be on top once again. He was able to turn the ps3 around, so i believe he can turn the whole company around. if i had the money i would go buy the Xperia TL right now but my contract has not ended yet

38. GENERAL-LEVY (banned) posted on 08 Nov 2012, 19:54

i love that phone 2.

10. brandonrana posted on 08 Nov 2012, 08:51 2 6

Oh come on PA enough bashing. Nokia has just started their journey on WP so have patience. apple didn't got great market shares in just some months right? Nokia will rise with WP8 , thats my gut feeling!!

14. cretinick posted on 08 Nov 2012, 09:11 2

This is the last chance they get. If Nokia don't climb some positions in the next 8 months, they are screwed!

But I really think that the new Lumia Phones will, in the worst case, stabilize the Nokia condition. The Lumias will give to Nokia the possibility to get back to the game...

11. StreetNerd posted on 08 Nov 2012, 08:51 1 1

NP big boom with the new Lumias :D

27. an4564 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 13:33 1

i believe that windows phone is hot in the Americas and Europe but not in Asia. i think what Nokia needs to come back is to get the Asian market as well or else it would not be able to catch up to the rest in the near future

13. ryq24 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 09:01 3 1

in philippines, lenovo like zte and hwawei is quite aggressive and their phones are quite cheap. a 5" touchscreen android phone sell for almost half the price of samsung galaxy s3. nokia is not only having problem in the smartphone market but also in the low end market also.

23. soshi posted on 08 Nov 2012, 10:58 1

Wow Sony third!! but pity for nokia, hope evolve soon not elop. But quite pesimist with windows phone, I thing windows will gain more in tablet but nokia only make phone.

25. an4564 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 13:27 1

sony doing much better than i actually thought. 5% isnt much right now but that's only 10% away from apple, which isnt bad at all if you asked me. since apple is about 17% away from sammy

26. downphoenix posted on 08 Nov 2012, 13:32 2

LMAO.

For those that are all doom and gloom on RIM, remember, they were #5 on that list. 5 positions ahead of Nokia. And RIM hasn't even released any new models this year. Talk about EMBARASSING!

30. GeekMovement posted on 08 Nov 2012, 15:06 3

I think Nokia will be able to climb back up. I'm really excited for the lumia series.

37. GENERAL-LEVY (banned) posted on 08 Nov 2012, 19:53 1

it's good to have dreams.

31. squallz506 posted on 08 Nov 2012, 18:34 1

I'm suprised rim has sold that many.

33. Edmund posted on 08 Nov 2012, 19:38 1

Face palm... Talk about pathetic journalism.

This is just blatant misrepresentation based on various news stories circulating the internet. Can phone arena please link the so called report by Canalys which states the above ??? I very much doubt they can, because it doesn't exist !

You guys are even more reproachful than those sad-sacs at the verge.

39. pikapowerize (banned) posted on 08 Nov 2012, 21:42 1

if they could just continue the support to symbian.. this will never happen! atleast support symbian and support WP too! your new asha touch dont sell well even though its swipe UI lloks good but still its not a smartphone! really not good to buy(even though its very stylish) atleast symbian has a lot to offer even people call it dead! true nokia fans will buy symbian phones... and other just buy WP coz of the love to nokia!

40. pegasso posted on 08 Nov 2012, 23:12 1

not a surprise.
Lenovo's current android lineup are nice.

i'm planning to get myself a Lenovo phone soon.

45. pikapowerize (banned) posted on 08 Nov 2012, 23:52 1

yeah...really good... but actually low end lenovo runs the same OS that china phone uses! so i think lenovo is cheating on that part... but still really looks good!

i really pity nokia for these ashas! even looking good but cheap android offers more better and cheaper price (in my place there's actually a dual core snapdragon chip inside a below $100, the same chip of the new samsung galaxy s duos but clock at 1.2ghz, they both have same specs... 4" ICS with 512 RAM and 4GB ROM but a lot cheaper) so nokia should consider symbian, not S40!
