Barely 30% of Samsung phones get Samsung chip. Good now there will be more phones getting Sammy chips. Don't forget sammy has vertical integration and is not a company which buys ckd's and then have the same "assembled" and then sold as a product with a new logo. I am sure you would also agree that there's more money in finished product rather than in components of finished products. So in a way it's good for Samsung. It's not that suddenly a vacuum would be created on demand side and there would be too much of a surplus left with Samsung factories like most of these articles make it sound :)

U sit on the couch and throw out disses against apple, but this is the real world buddy, the business world And in the business world I 100% guarantee you Samsung does not want to lose apples business, that would be like Footlocker wanting to lose Nikes business...please!!!

11. Droid_X_Doug posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:05 5 6

Meh. Don't be so sure that Sammy doesn't want to lose Apple's business. I suspect Apple managed to squeeze Sammy's margins pretty hard when the contract was negotiated back in 2007. Sammy's smartphone business is all about replacing low margin orders from Apple with high margin internal orders for Sammy GS units. Sammy is doing just fine without Apple's business.

15. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:26 3 2

I didn't say they'd crash n burn with out apple Doug. However I don't think they actually want to lose those billions either bro

17. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:34 3 3

Droid you know as well as I do that most people commenting on this article are Apple hating android users they can't see 12 inches past the phone that they're using I am not speaking as a silly fanboy I am speaking as a techie from a business standpoint Samsung does not want to lose apples revenue they simply don't they can live without it. They can thrive without it but Apple generates money for the economy and no economy wants to take a hit I've read enough of your articles enough of your comments I mean to know how intelligent you are and I know you know where I'm coming from

19. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:36 4 3

U along with phenom Are the android users whose opinions I respect the most and whose commentary I look to read the most. People like troll meocao and billybuttpounder r jokes that I laugh at and move on

29. PhenomFaz posted on 02 Jan 2013, 13:30 1

Respect given back bro!

Billy Buttpounder?!! Who or what the heck is that?
seriously who would call themselves Billy Buttpounder :)
That is the most pathetically humorous thing I have read in a long while :)

36. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 16:55

Dude check some of the weeks recent articles, and you'll find him. He's another Troll bro

13. mick25 (banned) posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:09 4 5

You guys may call him a troll and whatnot, but he's actually right that Samsung doesn't need Apple as they were still one of the top tech giants without them. On top of that, Samsung is not likely to let Apple have access to its foundry plants anymore.

26. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 12:54

What do mean without them? They still have them as a partner...for now.

30. PhenomFaz posted on 02 Jan 2013, 13:35

clm down sonny boy!
I am an android too but the way TROLL talks does nothing but give a bad name to android users!

I like talkin a bit of trash too when I am in the mood but I always substantiate my claims. Moreover TROLL's rght in the fact that Sammy doesn't need Apple at all and it doesn't even create a dent to Sammy's overall revenue (read my post further below to Shino's comment) but the way TROLL says itis way off base...if you wanna do something do it in a way it earns you credibility is all what I am sayin...if TROLL wants to talk trash at least talk it in style mate ::)

37. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 16:57

Well said bro. And agreed with.

2. Shino posted on 02 Jan 2013, 07:32 5 12

Buahaha! Sorry Sansunk, half of your business will be down when Apple goes away. You made it yourself. And with a billion dollars fine, definetely not good.

4. mick25 (banned) posted on 02 Jan 2013, 07:40 8 4

Samsung was a major tech giant before they even entered a partnership with Apple you dumbass.

5. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 07:42 7 4

That's true Samsung will lose a ton of business losing apple, as apple is still extremely popular. However apple will lose a great chip maker, but I think this will hurt Samsung more.

7. hung2900 posted on 02 Jan 2013, 07:43 6

Half? About mobile department is accounted for 5 over 7.6 billion profit of Samsung (Electronics) in the last quarter so how much going from semiconductor plant?
And the obvious fact is that TSMC cannot set up new plant for such that huge demand from Apple soprevious TSMC's customers will move to Samsung due to the same market demand.
And i think it's not very strange if you cannot understand that easy fact

12. PhenomFaz posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:07 3

ok i m gonna let your comment slide as you obviously dont know what you're talking about!
samsung is a geocentric conglomerate of gargantuan proportions! it is one of the few companies on the planet that has a self-sustaining ecosystem for whatever it makes and only a few companies can match up to samsung in its field like huawei, ericsson, ibm, motorola (not mobility) and a few others. these companies are way above the league of apple or any othe mobile manufacturer simply because the latter are product manufacturers and not true tech companies meaning companies like apple, zte, sony only make innovations in their product field which are not true tech innovations becuase if they were they would become industry benchmarks and would be adopted by others.

i dont know how much of what i am saying can you comprehend but lets just say buddy the billion that sammy lost and the business it'll lose to Apple in true life terms is an amount that Sammy wont spend 24 hours thinking over because they'll make more in the time they spend thinking about this...this loss is negligible to companies like Sammy, Moto and the few others listed above.

Also it would be real dandy if you could pull your head out of your butt-pucker :)

20. rickywinataa posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:44 3

samsung won't even really care. they are a big company with lots of products to sale.

well, looks like apple gonna have a long trip of out of stock, because i don't really think TSMC can keep up the way samsung can

23. wendygarett (limited) 5 days ago posted on 02 Jan 2013, 09:07

Tsmc itself is also busying to make Qualcomm and nvidia chips... Remember the snapdragon s4 shortages happen early?

27. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 12:55

And what's your proof of all this. I noticed u said think.

3. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 07:39 2 4

This could b a smart move by apple, or it could hurt them. On one hand Samsung is a helluva chip maker, on the other these two giants have become enemies...and u shouldn't lie in bed with your enemy. I reluctantly applaud apple for this move, but they'd better have their based covered, as Samsung is about the best there is at building chips. I wish this once great partnership could b salvaged, but sadly I don't think it can, or will be.

8. wendygarett (limited) 5 days ago posted on 02 Jan 2013, 07:46 6 4

The only smart move that Apple need to do is to outsource their chips to American chips manufacturer in order to create job for American... Not 100% to Asia...

Texas instrument is the best place... Amazon kindle fire able to use ti omap as well as RIM bb10... Why not Apple? Surely ti able to make Apple chips lol

16. wendygarett (limited) 5 days ago posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:33 4

Wow thumb me down for saying create jobs to American?

That's alright, they deserve to be unemployed anyway... I take that back...

24. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 09:14 3 2

U got a thumb up from me

21. rickywinataa posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:51 1

maybe because they hate you ?

TI is a bit too late in the party, they also have dropped the development of OMAP, i don't think they really want to make a mobile processor anymore

22. wendygarett (limited) 5 days ago posted on 02 Jan 2013, 08:54

Can you explain why Amazon still support omap?

35. ckoch125 posted on 02 Jan 2013, 16:36

Maybe because ti got out of the processor business?

25. fullmonty posted on 02 Jan 2013, 10:50

None of us are on Samsung's board but I guarantee you they are not happy with the development.
Simple fact of the matter (which no one has mentioned yet) is, the Samsung Foundry has lost a customer, who is taking his business to the competitor (TSMC).
Now the competitor is making more and becoming stronger. Apple will make sure that TSMC has everything it needs to make this transition successful. If TSMC becomes more successful they can invest more in R&D (as announced recently). Whoever has more investment in R&D will take the lead in next-generation technologies.
No business wants to lag behind in R&D.
If Samsung doesn't have the promise of millions of sales from future techonologies, it affects its R&D.
Thankfully, they are big enough themselves but this does hurt some.

32. darac posted on 02 Jan 2013, 15:19

Ridiculous oversimplification.
Samsung will likely have close to ten billion quarterly profit next year, and more than two thirds of that will come from their smartphone business.
So on top of having plenty of resources for R&D (which is traditionally their high priority, and one of the most budget heavy in the world ), they also have the infrastructure to build chips for their own products (unlike Apple ).

In other words, Sammy only needs to make sure their smartphone line is selling well enough and that will fuel the growth and success for the entire Samsung semiconductor division.
They won't need anyone else

33. ckoch125 posted on 02 Jan 2013, 16:00

Hope they can keep up with demand because none of apples others can except for Samsung. May end up with a lot of angry apple fans who can't buy a device even longer than it normally takes

34. ckoch125 posted on 02 Jan 2013, 16:13

This may actually help Samsung and make all their phones have their exynos chips in them. Less outsourcing for processors, etc

38. darkkjedii posted on 02 Jan 2013, 17:08

Apple needs to expand, one of androids biggest pluses is its versatility. I love androids choices of screen sizes, customizations, and models. Apple u should take note of this, as it has a direct effect on androids spread of popularity. Apple should know a good leader should also b a good follower. Android followed apple for a while, and is now a good leader. I see apple learning, and coming off their high horse. I expect something big from them this year with ios7 and the next iPhone. Any thoughts people? Intelligent ones please, if not then please don't comment.

41. richardyarrell2011 (banned) posted on 03 Jan 2013, 18:00

Samsung could care less...They will do just fine without apple...It was apple that needed Samsung for all it's overall componets. Every iphone ever made from day one had Samsung camera componets, processor compotents, so in all reality Samsung should've stamped it's name on those iphones they would have turned out much better. Piss on apple and it's useless boring iphone.
