The Android 4.0 update for the TELUS version of the HTC Desire has been canceled because of poor performance during testing; other updates listed by the carrier show Ice Cream Sandwich coming next month to the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the LG Optimus LTE...

Right! All the wanna do is sell their new phones by droping support for the older ones, Thats just bad!
For example, I have my Htc Desire (normal Gsm european), and it didn't get the Gingerbread by OTA, but if you go to HTC-DEV you can get the RUU to install Gingerbread. They said that Desire couldn't get it because of memory issue. Well, when i installed the non-OTA update, the phone had :
2 e-mail clients, 3 news-weather programs and a bunch of preloaded dublicated stuff nobody neads, and also Google pre-installed apps. If they removed them, memory would be no prob. But who am I speaking with....

Is it really true though? Vodafone Australia is currently testing the update before releasing it (since they got it from HTC like last week).

Get your facts right! TELUS has SUPPOSEDLY cancelled it for TELUS CUSTOMERS ONLY! HTC did their testing for all the confirmed devices before they released the list, testing was done months ago, this DOES NOT apply to. Unbranded sets or NON TELUS customers and NOT to anyone outside of Canada! This wasn't a HTC decision but a CARRIERS decision

Performance will likely be the same as it always has, I'm guessing the issue is related to the launcher's 3D widgets more than anything else.

Yes it is the bloat causing the problems, most networks mess around or add their own kernels etv, I have had ics on my sensation xe since mid march and it runs better than the day I bought it, all this is ONLY for telus

That's the way android oem's operate: release one update and wait for the 18 month period to expire. By this time most users are eligible for a new phone.

I don't believe htc. They claimed JB would run smoothly even on older devices. They did this once to original desire and claimed the same. After a while they said it wasn't true and hardware limitations weren't the main factor which hold them back.
