After doing trials of the UMA service for some time, T-mobile is planning a limited launch, expected to take place on September 12. The first city to get access to the new service is said to be Seattle, and other areas to follow are rumored to be Chicago and San Francisco Bay Area.
UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) is a technology that enables dual-mode handsets to handoff between cellular networks and Wi-Fi by using hotspots. T-Mobile is expected to launch compatible devices, one of which is the Samsung T709 - a slider with tri-band (850/1800/1900) GSM/EDGE support, 262k color display, 1.3 megapixel camera and MP3 player.
