T-Mobile planning event for March 26th: beginning the "uncarrier" era?

0. phoneArena posted on 18 Mar 2013, 19:51

T-Mobile is apparently putting together an event which will take place on March 26th in New York City. The event isn't official, but word is coming from AllThingsD that the carrier is planning the event. If the event is real, we think we have a pretty good idea what the topic will be, because there have been consistent rumors that T-Mobile would be announcing its "uncarrier" era around that time...

Well thats cool and all...but here's the thing: Their coverage sucks...I'm sorry T-mobile :-(

Ya but there the only major carrier that doesn't want to charge you ridiculous amounts of money.

4. Ruckus posted on 18 Mar 2013, 20:25 2 2

@HDShatter then go with Virgin Mobile my friend. T-Mobile in most areas is a joke. I like T-Mobile but coverage is a *****.

11. HDShatter posted on 18 Mar 2013, 22:34

Fine in my city, on 3g usually get 8-12mbps 4g is like 20s.

14. gagdude posted on 18 Mar 2013, 23:24

VM has some great pricing but wimax and 3g (from sprint is a joke), and CDMA is a joke. no nexus 4? no customer! :P

Cheap plans and no contracts are Ok but I want to see more customizable plans. I just want like 150 minutes, unlimited text and ~2GB of data (always have wifi). That should cost like $30.

9. PersianHobo posted on 18 Mar 2013, 21:13 2

T-mobile does have that...its offered on T-mobile.com and walmart.com

$30 prepaid, 100 minutes, unlimted text, and 5gigs at 4g

10. Joshing4fun posted on 18 Mar 2013, 22:25

Yeah but only if you bring a phone or buy one out right. There's no payment plan for a new one.

12. HDShatter posted on 18 Mar 2013, 22:35

If your tight on cash get a nexus 4.

15. gagdude posted on 18 Mar 2013, 23:26 1

the payment plan is $20.month for 20 months which totals up to $400, plus the "subsidized" price you originally bought at... gonna run you $500-$600 anyways which is outright

7. DecimalWinter posted on 18 Mar 2013, 20:56 2

I agree with Joshing4fun. I work for a premium retailer for Verizon. I pay $35 a month for 1500 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited text and 5 GB's of data, and I know they still make money on me. This could be a game changer.

18. Droid773 posted on 19 Mar 2013, 01:12

Perfect plan for me. Im on $30 tmobile plan, I just need a few more.minutes or at least free wifi calling.

19. alila2 posted on 19 Mar 2013, 07:29

I got that plan too, i add a $10 card every 3 month 0.10 a minute . 5GB of 4g love it and work perfect for me. although i would like them to fill the gab between the $30 and the $50 plan with a $40 plan , maybe 400 minutes with 4GB of 4g would be even better and work perfect for most guy's out there. T-mobile are you listening?????

23. kellkeezy posted on 19 Mar 2013, 12:13

shit i dont get that plan with the verizon premium retailer I work for

T-Mobile is going to blow up and be the role model in the wireless industry this year! Can't wait

13. archangel9 posted on 18 Mar 2013, 22:52 2

Every other carrier will follow suit.

16. gagdude posted on 18 Mar 2013, 23:27 1

i sure hope so. and maybe some day cdma will finally die in the US

17. Mr.Mr.Upgrade posted on 18 Mar 2013, 23:38

Nope other carriers.....t mobile is trying to stop the bleeding..... mark my words I been saying it over n over....if T-Mobile... sprint ....and the other lesser known carriers don't step it up..this year.....they done.....most investors are not putting money in them game over....and if u give this post a thumbs down that means u know its the truth and we all know the truth hurts

20. WakaFlakaD posted on 19 Mar 2013, 09:33

Hmmm lol sure they are done

21. PhoneAddiction posted on 19 Mar 2013, 10:23 2

I think all you trolls need to get a job, and stop hating life bc you're broke. If you can't afford a phone, that's your problem. Not the carrier or the manufacturer's problem.

22. Jyakotu posted on 19 Mar 2013, 12:05

But be honest, who really wants to spend over $600 for a phone that can easily be outdated within a year or two? If I'm going to drop that kind of bank on a phone, then the manufacturer better support it. Yeah, I know Nexus and rooting are always options, but not everybody wants a Nexus and not everybody wants to root. But hey, different strokes for different folks.

And I understand that the plans would be cheaper, but even as I understand now, T-Mobile has to offer payment plans so people can even pay off the phone.

24. PhoneAddiction posted on 19 Mar 2013, 12:59

I'll tell you who wants to spend $600; People who want a new phone. That's just the way it is. If you want it new every year, you have to pay for it.

As far as phones being outdated, that's an issue that Google, US phone carriers and the manufacturer's need to solve.

Before you know it, all carriers will probably be selling phones for full price, and still have the same ridiculously expensive plans. At least T-Mobile is offering some sort of value for your money.

26. PersianHobo posted on 19 Mar 2013, 20:51

everyone who has been with one of the four big carriers has been paying that and more for a phone. now you just don't see it hidden into your rate plan. and 600 isn't that much if you think about it... you could easily pay 300 for a camera, 300 for gps, 300 for a ipod, and 600 for a laptop/computer. all these companies for the individual products release a new product every year too... so cellphones aren't the Devils business

T-Mobile is currently offering off-contract plans. So what is big change??
