T-Mobile officially announces that Wi-Fi calling is coming to their Android handsets
T-Mobile customers better hold on to their hats tightly with the exciting ride they're on because T-Mobile officially announced today that they are bringing Wi-Fi calling to future Android powered smartphones.

UMA calling might be a key feature for select handsets on their existing lineup, like the Nokia E73 Mode or BlackBerry Bold 9700, but something similar to it will be gracing Android sets in the not too far distant future. It looks to be some sort of application that will enable handset owners to connect to a Wi-Fi network and make voice phone calls, however, it doesn't appear to perform Wi-Fi to cellular hand-offs. Nonetheless, this will prove to be a great solution for those customers who have weak connection to the network at their exact location.

As far as availability is concerned, T-Mobile plans to implement the feature first with the roll out of the new T-Mobile myTouch when it's launched later in the year – while the recently announced Motorola DEFY will get in on it too.
