T-Mobile invites Apple iPhone users to try its network and unlimited plan
How strange would it be to go into a T-Mobile store and see unlocked units of the Apple iPhoneconnected to T-Mobile's refarmed 3G network? A number of sources have told TmoNews that this is going to happen. Store managers were told to activate a microSIM before the end of last month, but were never told what device it would be for. Of course a microSIM card would fit the Apple iPhone.

The information that the sources are leaking is that the nation's fourth largest carrier will have a Bring your own iPhone demonstration inside its stores with the goal of having Apple iPhone users sign up for T-Mobile's unlimited talk, text and data plan which just started this week. While there is no timetable when to expect the iPhone to show up at T-Mobile, with the introduction of the device expected to take place next week with a launch penciled in for September 21st, it might not be terribly long before this promotion gets underway.

Leaked internal documents show that T-Mobile reps were told to "Sell against the iPhone" starting on September 21st, which is a big hint that the carrier will not be getting Apple's iconic smartphone to sell this year. It has to irk T-Mobile customers that even some pre-paid carriers are offering the iconic device while T-Mobile remains shut out. In the past, Apple could point to T-Mobile's AWS 3G spectrum as the reason why the phone was not offered to the carrier. Still, by last December there were over 1 million unlocked Apple iPhones on T-Mobile's network running at the speed of EDGE. Many Apple iPhone users had to put with with that slow speed when the OG model was launched in 2007. Now, T-Mobile can show owners of unlocked Apple iPhones how their phone would work on the carrier's HSPA+ network.
