Survey finds that 38% of recent iPhone owners came from using an Android or BlackBerry

The survey finds that there is still an increasing amount of people who are moving up to the iPhone from either an Android or BlackBerry smartphone beforehand. In a previous survey, it was discovered that 29% of iPhone owners in February switched from using...

"Moving UP to the iPhone"???
John V... You got some splainin' to do! LOL, just kidding.
But I wonder what the percentage is of people moving from iPhone to Android or are there no surveys ever interested in the progess of Android or Windows?

if they moved up to the iphone he means people with the LG Optimus. Droid X, etc.. there are so many people that came from those lousy Android phones that moved up to the wonderful world of Apple...

Are you kidding me right now, G-King? Droid X was the man, I loved that phone. I can't speak for the Optimus, but the X kicked booty even without a FF camera.

7348 subjects, 521 were qualified to respond? why is it that the rest of the 6827 were not qualified to respond? Could it be that they have an android or wp handset? or they're iPhone users that are switching to android or wp soon?
15. PhoneArenaUser posted on 07 Jun 2012, 14:05 6 5
So, how exactly percent come from Android and how exactly percent come from BlackBerry??? Because to say that "...38% of recent iPhone owners came from using an Android or BlackBerry" is very ABSTRACT AND MISTIFY... Because who knows, maybe there was only 1% from Android and 37% from BlackBerry...
Also what the percentage of people moving from iPhone to Android??? Or there is no such surveys???

UI ......super easy to use....
how about android?
u need download extra application for use free text
you need to download extra application for use face talk...
UI...is hard to use....
if you know about smart phone as well..then maybe android will be easy to use...
but IOS is way much easy to use for people.

Well this survey is bound to be statistically insignificant. If you look at the source, only 521 people of the 7438 people asked responded. If you compare this number to the actual number of activations (a very large number) it is a tiny sample. Also, with a survey like this, in most cases you will only get a certain 'type' of person who is actually bothered to answer the question due to a sampling bias. So they have basically ended up with an extremely small sample size which doesn't represent the true values. As well as this, including android and blackberry in the same percentage value probably suggests that the percentage of android users moving to ios is small and they just want it to look like there are many android users making the change. Well just my thoughts on the whole survey.

I just did a survey. 100% of the surveyed people had moved from an iPhone to a Nokia Lumia 900, a Blackberry Torch, or an HTC Sensation.
This just in! 0% of smartphone owners in a recent survey own an iPhone! Repeat, no one owns an iphone!
Survey size for both was 3.
Another survey!
Breaking news! 100% of all phone owners used to own a cell phone, or didn't have one before. Detailed analysis during the 10pm broadcast.
See how pointless these survey results are?
77. Lucas777 posted on 07 Jun 2012, 18:37 0 3
actually... ur survey contains bias so it is not a correct survey anyways... if it had not contained bias, it still would have a 57.7% margin of error...
if this survey was random, which i think it needs to be in order to be a correct survey, it only had a margin of error of 4%... assuming those 521 people were the only ones with an iphone from the 7348 (random) subjects...
so surveys are extremely effective if they are as close to random as possible.. dont call them pointless!
83. -box- posted on 07 Jun 2012, 19:09 2 1
No, no bias, just a very limited sample size. Must of these surveys that are posted as news also have a limited sample size, and then people will interpret and reference as they see fit. There was no bias in my "survey", but it could be argued the sampled individuals were hand-picked to skew the results in a certain way. Thus there was no bias in the /survey/, just in the sampled audience. It's the same as if a survey were taken at an apple store, or a Microsoft store: the chosen samples can dictate the outcomes and claimed results
89. Lucas777 posted on 07 Jun 2012, 20:10 0 3
sigh..
what u described as "hand picked" is bias... -- ur entire survey is biased... not biased like fanboyism but mathematically biased...
and this is why surveys are done "randomly" or at least should be.. so there is not bias...
and the sample size was not that small... there was only a 4% margin of error... so at least 34% and at most 42%-- not optimal but gives a nice range
116. nyuvo posted on 08 Jun 2012, 17:49 1 0
I don't get where you have taken this 4% margin of error figure to give a TRUE percentage of 34 - 42%. Do you know what a confidence interval is? that is the only way you are going to find a range of values where the TRUE percentage will be between.
Besides that margin of error of 4% is bound to be false as the guy who stated it above does not have the data personally. Notice the word "assuming". We can automatically reject what he is saying because he is making assumptions and not basing his findings from actual data.
117. Lucas777 posted on 08 Jun 2012, 22:00 0 2
uh i just take 1/(n)^(1/2)... where n is the sample size... and if the test is truly random, which it does not specify but i must assume it is to be an accurate survey, then the margin of error is +- the formula above... so therefor between 34 and 42 if randomness is assured...
a confidence interval would be included if the test was not random... but without that info, then i cannot really make the call which one it is
i am not sure where u are referencing "assuming"...

Well, if that were the only reason to pick one over the other, wouldn't Apple be the most popular computer manufacturer right now? Shouldn't Apple have more than 10% of the desktop and laptop computer markets since Mac is so much safer than Windows?
Also, there was a study done a while back and an article written on PA that proved iOS had just as many and in some areas had MORE security issues than Android.
So in the wise words of one of the world's most prolific scholars, Flava Flav... "Don't... Don't believe the... Don't believe the hype!"

Here is that link you probably though I was making up. Both OSs have it's own advantages and disadvantages, and I admit iOS did much better in a couple areas. But the part I like best is where it says "Where Android really has an advantage is in the number of vulnerable points which Symantec says numbers 200 on iOS versus just 18 on Android."

86. -box- posted on 07 Jun 2012, 19:27 4 1
Of the many acquaintances I have in those fields, none of them use Macs. Some used to, but found the updates tiresome especially when they rendered their multi-thousand dollar software useless; suspicious after numerous severe malware infiltrations in OSX; frustratingly expensive when they'd be required to buy multi-thousand dollar hardware instead of just upgrading outdated components, as well as new peripherals when legacy ports weren't available in the new hardware. In short, it was too expensive and insecure to be justified.
More so, watch the special features about high-quality CG movies and shows. Watch the programmers, sound technicians (Foley artists) and digital artists, and take note of what equipment they're using. Guess what? Only a token number are apples, the norm being high powered HPs, Dells, and similar Windows (and Linux) running devices, with particular peripherals suited to the users' tasks, with programmable and modular keyboards and other input devices. Even Pixar, which Steve jobs helped establish, use a significant number of non-apple computers. Lucasfilm, Dreamworks, Disney, and countless other major studios and players in those industries have switched to (or never used) apples.
In short, you're wrong. You should start thinking differently.

LOL, if there are no issues with the iOS, then why is there anti-virus apps made for the iOS? It's called prevention. Why is it necessary to have prevention? Just in case... No OS is virus/malware proof.
I could say you're an good user for knowing what comes in and out of your phone, but that doesn't mean the iOS is malware proof. Others... wouldn't be so lucky.

There was an app in the App Store that sent your passwords directly to the developer. Apple didn't catch it until the developer published his results. You may not be as protected as you think.

I used to have an iPod Touch, long before I ever had an Android phone. I got bored with it within three months.
I know why people like iOS better.
1. It's popular and all of the "cool" people are using it
2. It's simple enough to use for people who don't want to take 30 seconds to figure out how to put a widget on their homescreen (like my dumbass friend)
3. There is a lower chance of getting malware from Google Play for the idiots who go app-crazy and download everything on the app store within the first five minutes of getting their phone (like me with my first iPod Touch)
Yeeaaaahh. Now don't tell me I haven't tried it.

Thats mean if there is an update for HTC, the other phones NO?? Plus that it's depend on the carrier !!!!! Give me a break cause i can't slow down
84. tedkord posted on 07 Jun 2012, 19:20 4 0
I'm not really sure what you're asking, since English seems to be a second language for you, but I'll answer what I think you're asking.
Why do some phones get updated, but not others? It's very simple, Android is open source, and the OEMs and carriers customize it for their phones. Google makes a base Android release, ICS being the most recent. OEMs put their own spin on it, with custom skins and UIs, and once the Google release is out, OEMs need to update all they changed to work with the new version, along with device specific hardware drivers. It's just like apps - you have to wait until the developer updates it for the new OS version.
So, pure Android phones can get the the update immediately (unless there are hardware driver issues). Then, you have to wait for the OEMs to update all their customizations. Then the carriers test and approve it.
Some phones never get an update, due to either hardware that isn't powerful enough for the newer OS, or just OEM laziness.
Apple's situation is simpler - their OS runs on only one phone, and they don't need to optimize for different setups and configurations. They know which hardware they have to have drivers for. Android can't know what configuration any particular OEM might use.
If you want to ask about OS performance, there's no longer any difference in smoothness or fluidity between the two. There definitely was back in the Cupcak/Donut/Eclair/Froyo days. Very little with Gingerbread, and none with ICS (except Android does more). Choice comes down to personal preference.

my friend who has samsung g2 and he love to do falsh rom and thing likses that, he installed ICS on it and the phone became so slowly, with all the specific tha the phone has.
by the way, i tried samsung g2 but i didn't find it so smooth like iphone 4s.
one last thing, i can conclude from you that i should wait for a good android OS and then buy a telephone that has the same OS.
