Survey: 2.2% of iPhone owners are "extremely likely" to buy an Apple Watch over the next 12 months
A survey of 811 U.S. smartphone owners found that 2.2% of stateside iPhone owners  are "extremely likely" to purchase the Apple Watch over the next 12 months. 3.2% of iPhone users responding said that they were "likely" to purchase the iOS powered timepiece, while 61.4% said that they were "not at all likely" to purchase the device. Because the watch needs to be paired with an iPhone to work, less than 1% of non-iPhone owners said that they were "extremely likely" to purchase the Apple Watch, while 90% said that they were not likely to buy one.

The survey also discovered that over 60% of those responding would not want to pay more than $200 for the Apple Watch. Only 8.6% said that they would pay between $300 and $399 for the device. That is an interesting response because the most basic version of the timepiece will be priced at $350. Only 2.8% said that they would pay more than $500 for the smartwatch. Apple will offer premium versions of the Watch that could be priced at multiples of the basic price.

Judging from the response by those surveyed, the Apple Watch is a device that needs to be seen before buyers shell out any money for it. 75% said that they would need to see the Watch in person before buying it. 11.2% said that they would make the purchase, sight unseen. Over 50% said that they would check out the Apple Watch at an Apple Store, with less than 3% preferring to view the timepiece at a high-end watch retailer.

When listening to opinions about the Apple Watch, 40.4% of those surveyed said that the opinion of a friend might be able to persuade them to buy the device. 31.4% will listen to the opinions from family members, while 29% will depend on reviewers. The opinions of celebrities and athletes won't hold power over many potential Apple Watch buyers.
