Apple denying there is an issue is just the latest example of a lie being repeated in hopes of it being confused for the truth. The iPad 3 does get hotter than the iPad 2. Consumer Reports objectively proved the point.

I wonder if Apple is going to provide refunds for those customers who don't like the added heat output? Maybe the customers will just return the iHeaters within the 14-day return period?

you need to update the original article you link to. Consumer reports ran the test and they had multiple units hit 116 degrees while playing video games.

I don't believe apple is trying to sweep it under the rug. Every issue like this tends to get addressed in one way or another, and if a software iteration can fix it, it will be issued before long. My iMac was having an issue with disconnecting from Wi-Fi in sleep mode, I had checked almost daily for a software update to fix it. So finally one day (before I had checked for a software update) I called AppleCare and the agent asked that I check for updates. Reluctantly, I checked for updates and it turns out, they literally released the update to fix the problem that day. Apple doesn't like to admit they've made mistakes, but they do well to address them.

My theory is that they like to appear as though they can fix problems immediately. I'm absolutely sure that as soon as they received the first complaint about this heat issue they began investigating the cause, they will formulate a solution, then express that there is an issue that is being addressed, that way when they release the solution, it seems as though less time has actually passed since the problem began to exist.
