Steve Wozniak on new Apple iPads: No, Thanks

0. phoneArena 24 Oct 2013, 01:26 posted on

We all know that Steve Wozniak is a gadgets freak; regardless if it's a Nokia Lumia 900 or regrettably an HTC ThunderBolt, the Apple co-founder and living legend loves to see what's new and if he likes it, he'll buy it. When Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new Apple iPad Air and the Apple iPad mini with Retina display, Wozniak was on a plane, jetting to the U.K. to make an appearance at Apps World. But that didn't stop him from weighing in on the new tablets after he arrived...

...and it's often appreciated, but asking for a 256gb iPad is a bit much.

Apple only recently released iPads at 128gb and they cost anywhere from US 799.00 to 928.00 so it's rather unrealistic to expect Apple to release a 256gb version which would top out at over US 1000.00.

There are too many other reason NOT to be impressed with the iPad 'Air' e.g. it offers absolutely no features/functions over the iPad 3 or 4, to be concerned over the thing not offering some ridiculously large amount of storage at some exorbitant price point, that few buyers would be willing to buy.

The way they price the versions with additional memory is unfair. There are already articles written in the past on this, that how cheap is for manufacturers to add memory but how they use this to loot us customers.

the SSD memory is expensive, this is why they can't add much memory in tablets.
He better get a laptop with HDD.

Bollocks. The price of the eMMC chips they use on tablets don't justify the price hickups. Apple (and others) are just plainly greedy, milking money on the storage needs of the consumer.

Its not solid state, its just normal flash memory like whats used in micro SD cards. Phones and tablets get like 30-50MBps depending on their flash memory type. A SSD would be at least 100MBps easily, even if it was one of the worst ones it would be over 100MBps..

You're kidding, right? Check Newegg, son. Apple has a 96% profit margin on their storage for their devices alone.

a 256GB iPad would be over $900, more likely they'd price it at $999 and literally giggle at every single person that purchased one.

eMMC in the tablet.
no body put SSD in a tablet except for full windows 8/8.1 with pentium core CPU.
eMMC is cheap, ipad is expensive, that mean apple is greedy.
other manufacture also geedy but at least they give us sdcard slot and USB host to plug a flashdrive to the tablet

true when you think about it they made the battery 20% smaller because of the a7 chip power use they could have left it the same size but put a 256gb mem in it people would love that but windows pro2 did that and its alittle pricey for me i would not waste the money on them anything over 400 is a waste i think.

So Apple should consider to put micro sd card slot.
Problem solved!

iPad Air = No thank you but the iPad Mini 2 with retina and same specs with the iPad Air seems nice to me, it looks premium but still pretty expensive compared to new Nexus 7. However as an ex Galaxy Note 10.1 user i must admit apple iOS have much more optimized apps for tablet (the only reason to buy an iPad).

Consider the following:

That whole optimized for tablets crap is getting old. That is proven to be largely BS as all major popular apps that people use are optimized for tablets on both platforms. Its those little niche ones that aren't somewhere in the back of the app store that they keep counting and throwing around as another marketing point.

Aside from that, tablets are largely for entertainment and media, so why get an iPad when it is the least media friendly tablet. Everything has to go through the damn app store or itunes and loading and unloading items is a pain. You also have limited storage unlike several SD enabled Android and MS tabs, which also support USB OTG.

Finally, there is nothing premium about it after you put that case on it. As much as the Apple crowd likes to crow about their "premium" plastic covered phones and tablets, they need to realize how idiotic they sound. Not only do you pay more for "premium" (which apparently means metal now), but you also pay to cover it up and then almost NEVER take that plastic off. It isn't even a high quality metal as my friends iPhone 5s (plural not 5S) already have several scratches even in their cases. I have been using my own Padfone infinity for almost half a year now without a case of any kind and the metal doesn't have a single scratch on it (and my wife's dropped it like 10 times for me now). The HTC one was a bit more prone to scratching but not really as much as the iPhone which took damage for no reason. The same applies to iPads and minis, but for some reason they are still "premium".

Yeah so much true, i can easily watch every multimedia content with my note 10.1 and i really hate iTunes, and as i said before the only reason for me to purchase an iPad maybe because it has more tablet optimized apps i'm tired to see a pixelated or stretched apps on my Note 10.1 (i don't have an iPad, i might consider another tablet maybe Nokia 2520?)

And about the iPad premium looks and feels it's only about a matter of choice, i love my iPod Touch 5th (well mine are still in perfect shape anyways, no scratch and no cases) and i think if i had an iPad i wouldn't use any cases for protection.

You should read all the rationalizations over at BGR. Woz is being paid by a competitor to say that. Woz hates Apple. Woz is just bitter.

One guy claims that Woz doesn't even have an iPhone.

Just like everyone on the planet will end up buying it?! BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS ONE RIGHT!?

He could just as well buy a Surface 2 Pro since it has 512 GB of storage and full desktop computer functionality. Or any other of the hundreds of competitors that bring out options that Apple don't.

Yeah surface tablets are so much better than ipads. Thats why there's millions of dollars worth of them sitting unsold in warehouses because nobody will by them, whereas apple can't keep production fast enough to meet demand.

256GB iPad...i'm sure it is just a matter of time. i think even the 128GB is ridiculously overpriced for a tablet but that's just me. i guess my thinking is save my $$ & stick to a 32GB whereas i can off-load what isn't critical to another source to keep space adequate.

REALLY? Of all things for him to complain about on the iPoo, he mentions the lack of space? How about the fact that you have to use iTunes to convert all your videos, or putting that much content onto that turd is going to take hours. Forget about it and buy a real f*ucking laptop!
