Steve Wozniak not excited by Apple iPhone 5c

0. phoneArena 22 Sep 2013, 22:16 posted on

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is always sought out after the release of the latest Apple iPhone; the reason is because he gives an honest opinion and since his affinity for smartphones is not boxed in by any favoritism, you're getting a good unbiased answer to any question you poise to him. Besides, the Woz is a living legend and is probably a real cool guy...

Yes Woz seams like a cool guy, but you just know he has sold his apple share's or is waiting to buy back in.

I also agree with Woz. But when I did get the chance to use the 5c, it wasn't as bad as I imagined. It looks terrible, but feels sturdy when you hold it with your hand.

Still, Apple definitely could have made it better.... To me, Apple seemed to want a higher profit margin since they chose Plastic over Aluminum.

Disagree totally. Held the 5C in hand and the plastic on the back is worse than what's in my S3. It did feel a little solid in the hand, but I instantly got the sense of cheap.

Really disappointed with the 5C, although I plan on trying to get a pink one for my mother so she can replace her super low end Samsung phone from 2010.

Yea but the problem is that it looks like a cheap knock-off. Even in its box, it looks like one of those cheap phones you see hanging off the wall in one of those tiny shops in China town that sells cheap cases and such. Just that this time it is a real iPhone and it costs $500 before taxes more than the knock off.

Why spend so much and get so little? Better off getting her a 4S and a pink case if you must go iphone, or get her an Android from last year (red S3, perhaps?) or a new Windows Phone, like a 520, 620, or 720. Plus then she won't have to be a slave to itunes.

I would estimate about 60% of the iphones I see are in a huge rubber case so you can't see the plastic anyway. Of course if you want the gold iPhone then why would you put a case on it. Kind of a double edged sword.

I agree with this man, I had the iPhone 4S which I was happy with for the 2 years I had it but I didn't see much value in upgrading to a 5S and spend another $300 for a 32gb so I got an HTC One instead which I am extremely happy with, some people like Apple, others like Android. I personally like both and I am enjoying both as I kept my 4S to use as music player.

I am among those few who could care less what operating system you choose. I carry a DNA, have mom on WP8, and have a 4th gen iPod Touch.

I say that to say that the sound from an HTC One will KILL the 4s. KILL IT. It is a faster interface, stores more, bigger screen for track info, louder sound both with or without headphones. What exactly are you keeping a 3g device for again?

When I first saw the 5c online, I HATED it. I was very frustrated that it didn't come in black, because I like the form factor (one clean piece like the 3GS). However, when I went to the Apple Store and held the white one, I really, really liked it. It's really black & white, with a black front (all of the other white iPhones had white fronts) and a black logo/writing on the back. Looks like a vintage, retro iPhone. The older iPods, MacBooks, airports, etc. had the same color scheme. I bought this 5c over the slate 5s, which I had intended to buy. Couldn't be happier with the 5c!

The way I see it, the colours look great in the commercials and in the apple store when they are all line up together.

But in the real world, I can only have one phone.

That will be a blue, red, yellow, or pink phone that will be in my jeans pocket, suit pocket shorts etc.

Coloured phones are a great idea but when you need to be a grown up, there are a lot of times where they look pretty damn stupid.

Also not providing a black version of the 5c is just insane.

Especially this 5c design which looks so much like a toy when compared to a lumia or a HTC one red or clue

Over the weekend I've either sold or put in reservations for about 10 iPhone 5ses. Limited supply means that out of all that are left, the only ones we have are Verizon's anymore, and only in black. (Verizon has a weak customer presence in our area).

I've also sold a few Android phones, including a Mini, a One, and a Galaxy S3 and S4.

I've sold one, read it, one 5c. A pink one. The elderly lady who bought it was pretty jazzed to get rid of her Blackberry Style, and I'll admit it didn't feel cheap when I handled it. The plastic is certainly pretty thick and sturdy. But overall it just doesn't look very good, and I spotted little things (like uneven spacing in the gap around the SIM slot) that would have never passed muster under Steve Jobs' QA.

Also, at least two iPhone 5ses (the display model we received and a customer's) have something that rattles audibly inside by the camera module when the phone is shaken lightly. They might have something defective, or it could be normal, but I'll say this-if it's normal, if it's not the result of something being broken inside and just part of the design, someone's head would roll if Jobs were alive.

I think we're starting to see Apple crack a little under the pressure.

Will do. As far as overall numbers go, our store would have likely slightly outdone our performance last year had we actually had 5ses in stock.

The only thing to even remotely take note of on the iPhone 5S is the ARM v8 architecture that's running on Apple's new A7 SoC. Wishy washy finger print scanners with vulnerabilities and run-of-the-mill camera improvements isn't all that impressive.

Technically it's a Samsung chip in disguise, so the kudos go to them.

It's not really a Samsung chip unless Sammy designed it.
What makes it good is Apple's brilliant design.
So all of the kudos go to Apple.

After working the entire weekend at Best Buy Mobile, my theory that Tim Cook will probably lose his job at Apple by next year because of the new Iphones has gotten even stronger because I knew these 2 new phones were a joke but when I actually activated them, I was correct!! Samsung, you have absolutely nothing to worry about!! :) Oh, and by the way, for all you no-intellectual Iphone lovers out there, Samsung makes Apple's A7 processor and has been making about 22% of the Iphone 4 and 4S internal parts as well so if you by an Iphone, you might as well say you're buying Samsung too!

I'm not an iPhone lover, I use a Nexus 4, and love it, but there isn't anything about an iPhone lover that is "no-intellectual" as you so eloquently put it. It is personal choice. They like iTunes usually. They have a lot of music purchased on their ipods and want to have that music on their phone. iPhone always works, is very reliable, and is very simple for the non tech savvy users to learn. There is major appeal. I personally used an iPhone 5 for 3+ months (got it cheap from a friend) and I would never buy another, but I can understand why it works for others

Is this guy even still relevant? I don't think Apple nor its customers care about his opinions as the company just set another sales record. Good for them

I suppose Apple didn't want to have 2 devices virtually identical, with different prices, so the common customer would just take the cheap one as seen no real difference.

How many people did choose an iPhone4 over a 4S when the latter was released? If you're not a tech fan, you don't know the difference between those two, even if someone explains it to you, you wont care. Same look, same functions, same brand, as an average customer why would you pay more?

Now, with the 5c and 5s, customers can easily differentiate the new model and the not-so-new.

For those still using an iPhone 4/4S, the 5S will be fun. Not sure why anybody with the iPhone 5 would even blink at this. Apple will do a fine job supporting their devices to iOS 7, so no reason jump on this.

I see no advantage to the 5C so far. It isn't that much less expensive, and it has no real advantage over anything out there. Strange. Let's see if this is like a few other releases: Price it higher, in 30-60 days price drops due to lack of interest. If so, it will show Apple has come down to the rest of mobile. If not and it sells well, I will put Apple right back into that "bullet proof" catagory.
