Steve Jobs, in a resignation letter hinting at health problems, has stepped down as CEO of Apple and has suggested that COO Tim Cook take over; Jobs asked to remain as Chairman of the company and continue to be an employee of the company he co-founded...

I only wish him well. Especially health-wise.
White it is true that recent events would have us all (those who are sane at least) hate Apple, I am convinced that those bad decisions on Apple's part did not go directly from Steve. He has contributed A LOT to the computer, MP3 player, Tablet, and smartphone industry. He is possibly the greatest icon of all time when it comes to innovation.
Goodbye Steve. It has always been a pleasure.
One more thing.
There is no longer any charismatic leader at Apple now. I've seen Cook on stage - he doesn't know how to speak to an audience, much less do it charismatically.
WWDC is going to be so much more boring from now on...

It's sad but not unexpected. Everybody knows about his health problems.
And who knows? Maybe he'll return in 6 months. Lol.

although i hate how he does business, but the man did a lot of things for the mobile space, like the iPhone, like it or not, the iPhone DID create all this competition,
what i didn't like was that he sued companies for creating rectangles with screens, but other than that, he's done well....
WISH HIM THE BEST OF LUCK IN HIS LIFE :)
*p.s ANDROID fan here*

I might be one of the biggest android fans out there but even i know the cellular industry would be nothing without steve jobs .... YES android would have been around anyway even if the iPhone wasnt around but the fact is , the reason why android is what it is today the reason why every company tries to push boundries with mobile technology putting in dual core processors (just now quad core) faster clock speeds, bigger ram, HD video recording all were implemented to stay ahead of Apple so i hope steve Jobs gets better and i hope he plays a big role in development as much as id hate him i respect him because of his genius

He is leaving soon.
Apple will start its decline again.

My take is this.
Stepping down as CEO and being elected Chairman of the Board, is not exactly my idea of "leaving" Apple. He is not newly diagnosed, and has been working in a limited capacity for some time now.
This is probably something the shareholders have been wanting since he was diagnosed and took a step back. Think of it as getting his affairs in order in case he loses his battle with cancer. There would be a chain of command all ready in place which keeps the stockholders happy and the company more secure.
Of course the only thing that will completely separate Jobs from Apple will be his passing.

for better or worse, thats completely true. If he just left apple completely, the stocks would take a nosedive. Heck, they took a shallow dive on news of him taking shotgun instead of driving. What do ya think would happen if he just got out of the car? He has to make himself "less important" so if/when the time comes, its not so detrimental to the company.

I never hated Steve Jobs, I just dislike those sheep who think their phone is superior.
Neither do I hate the iPhone. It's just that the users are really really full of themselves.
