Sprint to launch EV-DO Revision A in Q4 2006

The EV-DO Revision A has successfully passed tests and Sprint is currently integrating the new technology into its network with the launch expected to take place in Q4 2006. After the upgrade the network will support average download speeds of 450-800 kbps (currently 300-600 kbps), and average upload speeds of 300-400 kbps. It will enable users to make use of high-speed video telephony, music on demand, video messaging, large file uploads and high performance push-to-talk capability. The first EV-DO Revision A compatible devices are expected to be available with Sprint this fall and they will be connection cards offered in PCMCIA Type II, USB, and ExpressCard form factors.

Sprint's Power Vision network is expected to be completely upgraded to the EV-DO Revision A technology by Q3 2007.
