Sprint to add an additional $10 charge per month for iDEN subscribers starting in January

Event though Sprint is putting an end to its iDEN network on June 30th 2013, the carrier is trying to hasten subscribers' migration to its CDMA-Direct Connect plan by adding a $10 monthly charge for iDEN users from now through the closing of the iDEN network...

There's more than 3 devices with push to talk...where did they get that number? Kyocera DuraCore, DuraXT, DuraPlus, Motorola Admiral, DuraMax for starters...there should be some more added with PTT apps, making most any Sprint devices capable.
Not only that, anyone with a Nextel device also gets special offers that were probably mailed to them anyways...$0.99 for all of those devices and $50 for an iPhone 4S or Evo LTE.
As for the $10 add on, good. The network is dying, find a device from this century...

I made a comment about the $10 premium data the other day in a similar news article about Sprint...
Looks like Sprints ready to hemorrhage more customers!
The key is to offer similar offerings and a deep discount to switch (and no, the current offers are trash when it comes to just switching to AT&T, also, the phones suck compared to teh rugged iDEN phones), not charge more... who the hell is leading the charge at sprint concerning this? They are not only shooting themselves in the foot, but everyone in the company!
Stupid sprint...

10.00 To force them off the network, either migrate to Sprint or Leave, it's tough but it's part of the process, Sprint can't afford to have these useless Nextel towers up, it's slowing them down from advancement. Also majority of these customers that are hanging onto their faithful nextel are in an area where there is zero sprint coverage, so they feel they'll wait till there is a signal but what they fail to realize is that that same Nextel tower is the one Sprint is trying to rid everyone off so they can get that Sprint signal up.
And as long as it's not a smart phone, those Nextel customers can keep those great great great grandfathered plans.

I hope you can see how totally flawed your statement is right?
Those Nextel towers are going NOWHERE... the plan is to refarm the spectrum for LTE, meaning they are going up on the towers, changing out the parts that need to be changed, and thats it...
Getting rid of those towers eh... more thinking, less posting

@ Hammerfest
Libra is right, the $10 fee is to force customers off of iDEN and it makes absolute sense for Sprint to do this. The network is being shut down to refarm that Nextel spectrum, why delay the process to keep a few people on a network that has less coverage every day. To support the migration, iDEN users get special offers as mentioned above. BTW, my company just transferred thousands of Nextel lines to Sprint Direct Connect and the new Kyocera and Moto phones are very good, the service has also been very reliable.

Sprint should of just made the end of the Nextel network December 31st, no sense in dragging out this process.

Not all iDen subscribers will be charged. Only targeted ones. Sprint has to force the least profitable to either upgrade or leave so they can turn their focus on the most profitable accounts during the remainder of the migration/shut down.
