Sprint partners with various vendors to decommission 9,600 iDEN towers before Q3 2012

In order to meet that June 30, 2013 date of when Sprint intends to close out its entire iDEN network, we’re hearing word now that a total of 9.600 iDEN towers are going to be decommissioned. In fact, Sprint announced today that they’ve made an agreement...

I believe this is only a third or a quarter of iDEN cell sites in commission today, so there is still a lot of work to be done. Either way, this is a good move for Sprint to get rid of the overhead of operating an inefficient 2G PTT network and re-invest resources into next-gen technology / Network Vision 1xRTT Advanced Voice, 3G Advanced, 4G LTE 1900 & 800, HD Voice and VoLTE groundwork.

It says in sprint website that Lte should be launched in mid 2012 it's already June ! Waiting patiently :(
