Sprint mocks AT&T, offers 4G network to iPhone users
Sprint has a new TV commercial that pokes fun at AT&T's network while offering a way for iPhone users to grab lightening quick 4G speeds. In the spot, Matt says that his buddy's iPhone is "cool", but limited to AT&T's 3G speeds. Matt goes into his pocket and whips out the Sprint Overdrive which will allow Steve to access Sprint's 4G network on his cool iPhone. And while Matt symbolically chews away at an Apple, Steve is using the Overdrive to get 10 times faster speeds for his iPhone. A interesting concept for Sprint, using a competitor's phone to sell it's 4G services. Does this call for a response from Luke Wilson and AT&T?

What point? Sprint is essentially saying, forget about the thousands of cafe's, restaurants, libraries, cities, towns, shopping malls, so on and so forth, places in which it's easy to find and get free WIFI, and find a bud who happens to have a MIFI and use that to get 4G speeds. Really? I know this is marketing, but in this situation conveniences easily beats out performances, especially when you get decent speeds on most WIFI connections. They took a play out of Vzw's play book, but just like Vzw's approach, this is stupid.

The convenience of carrying around credit card

I understand the free WIFI concept but to be honest...I don't want to have to drive to this places just to access WIFI. I think MIFI is a better idea honestly. I'd much rather be in the comfort of my own home surfing the web rather than at a Barnes & Nobles looking at a bunch of hipster kids with their earth tones, skinny jeans, and pumas. That's just me tho...

Thats a rather pointed commercial. Go sprint for taking a real stab and trying to get back into the game. Competition is great for everyone in the long run.

I'm glad Sprint has joined Verizon on gaining up on AT&T. AT&T is just a CRAPPY network! :]

15. artz1986 posted on 20 Mar 2010, 14:01

a crappy network that is still gaining customers?

23. cellgeek82 posted on 20 Mar 2010, 15:43

The iPhone is the one gaining customers, take away the iPhone and the truth will be revealed.

@cellgeek82 Thank you! At least you get it. Unlike some STUPID IGNORANT PEOPLE! :]

The customers only grew about 12% since the iphone. While your network grew about 5%, do the math. AT&T was around before Apple and they will be around after Apple moves on to different companies.

Question, would you by a mediocre smart phone, pay $120 a month, on a network that is crappy and 'drops your calls'? I mean, I know consumers are generally swayed by the glitz and glam, but I doubt a phone alone [key word] is enough to sway them to jumping onto a 'janky' network. at&t has an awesome network, and because the iPhone can't keep a call doesn't make the network crap, fact is, the iPhone is a janky phone period.

My wife and I tried AT&T and I didn't use an iPhone. We tried regular 3G phones, we had different phones also. In the end, after trying them out for a few months, and once going state to state when we went on a trip, we concluded that Verizon had better voice quality/coverage and larger 3G coverage. I thought AT&T had a good selection of phone features like MobiTV and Video Share for example but seemed more cosmetic than actually useful. I used voice and data simultaniously one time just to see if it really was possible but never really used it. During a call I have no desire to surf. When it came to customer service, quality and coverage, features, user-friendliness I had to go with Verizon. The phones my wife and I used weren't cheap plain phones, they were multi-media phones and we loved them but the network had to go. So with phones aside, I did and expensive test (including a termination fee) with AT&T and decided to stay with Verizon.

120 dollars a month? Since when?

51. ATTlover posted on 01 May 2010, 00:08

ATT HAS THE BEST NETWORK. ATT DOES NOT HAVE TO LIE TO PEOPLE ABOUT NEWORK COVERAGE. VERIZION HAD TO LIE TO GET PEOPLE ON THEIR NETWORK. GOES TO SHOW WHAT KIND OF NETWORK THEY ARE.
