Sprint has launched their new Buyback Program that intends to boost US wireless recycling rates by offering customers credit to previously owned handsets....

print-loses-less-money-more-subscribers/ Anyways, Recycling is a good thing, but the Env2 and the Bold 9700 are better than most of the phones Sprint carries. Instead Sprint should work on getter better devices and some better incentives to make the switch. Sprint should offer Free Activation more frequently (it does not take $36 to activate a phone...get real) and do some aggressive promotions with devices and maybe a couple months free on a data plan. BOGO some droids or blackberries while your at it. Get the new 2yr contract activation. Keep customers the contract customers.

I used to be with Sprint, they were good until I moved, and really the only thing that real irked me was the fact that they charged an activation fee for UPGRADES! I just couldnt understand the logic behind it....charge an existing customer to stay with your service? Granted i dont know if they still do or not but its not a good policy at all, IMO. Wow and i just looked at the article you posted a link for...49.3 million subscribers as of Feb 2009. I remember when they were in like the 60's.....then the Nextel deal happened, been hemorrhaging ever since.

sprint is not the only one that charges a upgrade fee

Verizon doesn't. If you do an early upgrade, we usually waive it if you come in the store and buy it. If you are a VIP customer (2+year customer) it waived no matter where you buy the phone.

Sprint Premiere customers don't pay it either last time I checked. They credit ur bill if you get charged.

Just to throw it out there... flipswap.com gives way better buyback prices than whats listed here.
