boooo for the snapdragon S4. otherwise, very cool phone, and great price

3. Commentator posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:02 9

S4 outperforms any processor on the market today, even the Tegra 3 and Huawei's processor.

Agree. While not the exactly a Cortex A15 core, this part uses A15 based technology with Qualcomm's customizations. Whether it's customized for better performance or for cheaper price like their previous SoCs, who knows until another A15 comes out to compare with.

Either way, it has has already been shown to have huge performance advantages over A9 parts which the current quad cores are using right now. The only processor's on the horizon that may beat this one in real world CPU app performance is OMAP5 or Exynos5 series (A15s)and I don't think they'll be in any phones until late Q3 or Q4. The GPU is not cutting edge and is probably outclassed by the 40nm Tegra3 and the upcoming 32nm Exynos 4212 SoC but at 28nm, they'll be able clock it faster than previously Qcomm SoCs if they want to at the same speeds but at lower voltages (lower power).

I'm sure a few synthetic benchmark will show a quad core A9 having higher performance but I doubt most apps will be written to take full advantage of 4 cores, so it will only help in the cases where multiple apps are trying to execute at once. Not to say that doesn't happen sometimes of course....

no its customized from the Cortex A8, not the A15. And that is a very big improvement. And most benchmarks, actually, every CPU benchmark I have seen has shown the S4 out perform the Tegra 3

True. should ev been the tiomap....

20. andro. posted on 04 Apr 2012, 18:35 3

It is a very cool phone, the screen is class indeed, while Ive used the quad core one x i cant say what the dual core variety Will be like but if it performs any way as snappy many will be happy with it

2. rockstarlive posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:01 1

Lol. Of course it wasn't gonna be the quad core. I don't think Sprint has support for a quad core phone on their network

22. Phonecall01 posted on 04 Apr 2012, 19:04 3

lol !! Killing me. What would the "network" support has to do with a quad core processor???

25. rockstarlive posted on 04 Apr 2012, 19:27

I meant. Sprint has LTE. The quad One X doesn't work too well with LTE radio. The other 4g is wimax.

27. Mario1017 posted on 04 Apr 2012, 20:54

hahah. The amount of cores does not designate if it is compatible with a carrier or not... The One X doesn't work with sprint because the Tegra 3 in the X doesn't support LTE. That is why it has the S4, it has support for LTE.

If preorder starts May 7, when do you think it's going to be actually release?

5. spanky posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:07 1

most likely june given the Evo launch history..

6. Orbitman posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:15 2

oh yea, this is definitely gonna need a protective case lol

7. jaytai0106 posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:20 2

Bigger battery, expandable memory, It's going to make the future owners of HTC One X (like me) on At&t jealous :( I don't really like the design of the back, but def. like the kickstand

8. Whateverman posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:22 1

This phone should have been given a more distinguishing name instead of just adding LTE at the end. The Evo 2 or Evo 4G 2 would help to set it apart from the original Evo.

11. EclipseGSX posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:33 6

Seriously, I liked the EVO One personally

9. VZWpino posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:24

Hmmm, if extremely similiar... wonder why it's not white. Perhaps a white version will come out after. Any mention of the awesome camera being able to record and take pics similtaniously? Or the ability to take snap shots from recorded video? I do dislike the physical camera button... just my preference.

12. Commentator posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:39

It's black to keep with the traditional Evo brand. However, both the Evo 4G and Evo 3D did release white versions later, although I personally don't think they looked all that great, compared to other white smartphones.

17. VZWpino posted on 04 Apr 2012, 18:15

That is true... more than likely come out with a white version. Although, I'm with you on other white phones. Personally, I like the look and the white on the Samsung phones, such as the Galaxy S II in white.

10. EclipseGSX posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:33 5

Come on HTC two tones of black...wtf

14. Bridgep0rt posted on 04 Apr 2012, 17:58 2

As a HTC, and Evo Lover. I like the phone. I dont love it because I think they missed with the Glossy top As Eclipse said, They should have kept the Soft Black. I like the red features on it, but I think the back of the ATT version is better. They should have kept the same back, Just black and kickstand. With Sprint 4g and Beats audio in back.

Imma still buy the phone, just gonna throw a case on it. Thanks HTC and Sprint for giving us OUR Exclusive!

Another website lists the battery as a 2000mah, but does not say if it is removable. All rumors before today said it was not a removable battery. Too bad because I would get this phone, but that battery is too small to be permenant.

21. phoenixpr posted on 04 Apr 2012, 18:44 2

Amen to that! Agree!!!

16. davin8r posted on 04 Apr 2012, 18:06 3

what a major goof on Nvidia's part to not make the Tegra 3 compatible with LTE. I mean, wtf were they thinking????

And yes, I know the S4 is faster. I'm just saying it seems like a huge mistake for Nvidia's business.

18. master0fursinz posted on 04 Apr 2012, 18:19 1

like the phone, but lack of lte will kill it. it is pointless to preorder unless you're in one of the LTE cities.

23. lsutigers posted on 04 Apr 2012, 19:07 2

FYI, Sprint is flying with their LTE deployment, they know they are playing catch-up due to the shift from WiMAX to LTE and have expedited their Network Vision / LTE deployment by 2 years. Sprint's currently deployment schedule is expected to bring LTE to all major markets / metro's serving approximately 130 million POP's by year end. Basically the same amount of people serve by WiMAX, just not in the exact same cities. They have mentioned some cities with WiMAX will take a little longer as they already have 4G. Sprint's network will be awesome after the upgrade and those iPhone capacity issues will be a thing of the past.

Check out www.s4gru.com for Sprint 4G LTE / Network Vision updates.

OG HTC EVO 4G would be ashamed to have this design-reject carry on its name.

What's wrong with One X with a spring-loaded stand placed at the same spot as the EVO 4G was and adding red trim around the camera?

Im just happy it launches with BEAST audio. sounds killer!
