make the search function to be specifically limited to Web, apps, contacts, email, messages and files in the SD card. With only 5 things, you can't say that it is universal, but at the same time, they are wide enough to cover what the users mostly use the search for. The term universal is for everything that is included in the Venn diagram, but it is just some clusters in the diagram itself.

I wonder if a similar 'disabling' applies to non-Sammy devices, such as the HTC EVO 4G LTE? I will have to check my RAZR.

Interesting.... Search on my RAZR seems to be limited to the web. Even though the search function states it has the ability to search the phone as well. It gets curiouser and curiouser. Any other RAZR w/ ICS owners out there experiencing the same?

It works for me, I searched for angry birds and my first results were the apps for it

You have to go into Settings and enable it to search more than on the web.

Apple is pathetic, forcing everyone to cripple their devices so they can compete "fairly".

The only pathetic thing is US patent system.

Well said. Apple can only patent what they're allowed to.

In the title, it should be "of its" - not off.

I received an OTA update on my AT&T GS3 and no longer have a Universal Search feature either.

Damn lol

16. skymitch89 posted on 11 Jul 2012, 14:49

Like I've said before, if it is really that big of a deal that unified search be taken out of Android devices, then why doesn't Google just update their Search App to remove that feature instead of Samsung sending out updates to their devices. Practically every Android device has a unified search. I have the Evo Shift, and if I press the search button, I can do a search for something like Twitter and get options of going to the website, doing a Google Search for Twitter, or launching the app.

Just happened to the AT&T GS3 also

18. Sackboy117 posted on 11 Jul 2012, 21:42

Still wondering why they don't sent updates for ALLLL Android Phones since im sure they all have the Universal Search Feature dating back to androids early days.

Wasn't that the few reasons the Search button existed on the bottom right of Android phones since 2008?

19. sprockkets posted on 11 Jul 2012, 22:30 1

Cause Apple wants to go after the top android phones. AND if the patent is upheld, they don't want to pay more in damages.

And this is why I "hate" Apple...
