I despise this change, seeing as how I am a gold premiere customer through Sprint. I realize it wasn't going to last forever, but I loved the option to upgrade yearly.

sprint is losing too much money. iphone has nothing to do with this. then whos fault is "premium data" fee? sprint is a last place carrier and they realize they need to be competitive or fold up shop. good move sprint.

It's official. Iphone coming. Tiered data after initial launch. The writing is on the wall folks.

Until all phones are smartphones, I like the data fee. It lets you have a family plan at lower cost, and only pay the data fee for the higher end phones. It makes sense, which is why is will probably go away.

I have Sprint and I think this is a very good move. You can't be #3 in the nation and act like you're #1, you'll lose everytime; this cut back is a great move from a financial stand point.

To add on to this article the one year contract option with Sprint in which you can get a device at $25 off for a partial upgrade with a one year contract or $75 off with a full upgrade, but only a one year contract is being eliminated.
Here is the info directly from Sprint:
Effective 10/2, the 1-year contract offer and eligibility will be removed for all customers managed in ARM (Amdocs Rebate Manager).
The 1-year contract removal project will remove the 1-year new contract and 1-year upgrade contract options for customers managed in ARM.
When a customer buys a new device or upgrades to a new device, they will either pay full Standard Retail Price or sign a 2-year contract and get the subsidized net price.
This has no effect on service plans and their rules or options.
The 1-year contract option will be removed for all equipment types.
This change does not affect large CL accounts (CL99+) or large government accounts.
These customer types will receive the same options they do today.
These exceptions are handled by AT/ST in the system.
This change affects both new accounts and upgrades under the New For You program.

Just more proof that AT&T isn't Sprint's problem. Sprint is Sprint's problem. If they keep getting rid of the things that separate them from AT&T and Verizon, then they're becoming the same thing as what they're fighting against.

The one big thing that differentiates themselves in Unlimited Data and these moves were done [in Sprint's playbook acording to the article] to keep Unlimited Data. good enough for me...

Give it time. They'll go to tiered like the others. Either that, or they'll still have unlimited with throttling a la T-Mo.
I'm willing to bet that they go to tiered by the time they go LTE.
The more they become like AT&T and Verizon, the less they're differentiated. These changes are more conforming to industry norms now rather than differentiating.

I think the design of the "playbook" is hilarious. Pictures of people doing soemthing or standing. They make no sense being there. Like the dad with glasses, or the mom in the purple sweater, no point in them being there. What was the designer thinking?
First design guy: "well we got good graphs and boxes to help seperate important information, that helps it look cool but we need something else"
Second design guy: " We have this clip art of this family"
first design guy: " Perfect! put them behond text and to the side, may be put the guy on the bottom right corner, Oh yea , like that"
Second design guy: "what about this page, we have lots of unused space?"
Frist design guy: "Put that kid playing video games right there, Oh yea, like that, Put the android logo on his shirt, yea just like that, Now put the family right there, Hmmm, yea that looks good too"
They put them in there just to balance out the page. Arent these for employees only? Why would the employees give a shi? What are these people supposed to do? What is the point, graphically?

i think the premiere program should not come to an end. i think it should at least be available to those customers that are on the simply everything plan for 99.99. it would be a nice perk to be on the highest individual unlimited plan which will actually be 109.99 w/ the pdc of 10.00. thats 1319.88/yr and this plan does not get discounted in anyway

Although I have no idea why they'd get rid of the Premier Gold, considering that there weren't too many folks who were eligible for it but it left a nice opportunity for Sprint salesmen and Customer Service to try and upsell customers...not that they ever did anyways, but what incentive NOW is there to go for the $89.99 Everything Data 900 now? Or the all inclusive $99.99 Simply Everything plan? Employee discounts don't work on it, you still get the premium data fee and nobody calls landlines...
Sprint has been hammering the $79.99 Everything Data 450 for a while now but if they're lookin to make more money they gotta upsell their plans...

The ONLY good change they are making is the regular upgrades being 2 months earlier. That said, Sprint's making a lot of changes that has me pissed at them, and all just so they can secure their precious Iphone that most customers on Sprint dont even want. Also the $36 upgrade fee they charged now is no longer waived on Sprint.com anymore, if you activate a new phone or upgrade your phone, and they tell supervisors no more adjustments for them for customers, you're guaranteed to pay it.
I am glad they are getting tough with whiny customers bitching that they should have the fees waived, but not at the cost of giving those customers at least one option they can avoid the fees, now they have to pay them no matter what.
Also the 14 day return period is a bad idea. Not necessarily because of the reduction from 30 days to 14 days, I can understand that, 14 days is sufficient to determine whether the service is going to work out for you or not on standard day to day usage. The part I am mad about is how they used to give all your money back if you did return within the period, no activation fees, restocking fees, usage fees (unless you incurred overages, etc.) and was a big selling point for someone who hasnt yet tried the service. Now they're just matching or in some cases even getting worse than AT&T and Verizon on all the policies. Again, all for the stupid Iphone.
I honestly wouldnt be surprised if the reason Sprint has to do all these changes is because they probably had to pay Apple a bunch of money, and so Sprint decided its either time to cut the unlimited data or make the various changes like they did here so they can afford Apple.

Ok Sprint you all are bout to loose a customer thats been down with you for 13 years. once you guys put tiers on your plans along with mytaking away my yearly upgrades and other perks why should i stay you will be no different than the other companies out there. So since you guys at Sprint want to follow the leader now Im gonna open up my options once you guys start capping data. Unless my plan is grandfathered and i will never buy a phone again on contract i will rather buy used phones on ebay.So sprint when you release the Cryphone on the so called NOW network and then cap Data Its gonna hurt you more. Android is your iphone you dont need it.

Everyone he is crying about the changes, but you people don't understand how things work do ya? Sprints lost money because of the gold premier program. Sprint can make up to 18 month to turn a profile on the customer. So if you upgrade every year it is harder for them to turn you profitable. You know why prepaid company can charge so little for their plan? For two reason, one you have to buy the phone at retail price and they don't own or maintain a network, Boost, MetroPCS, Cricket, etc. All use the 1 of the big 3 network. They also don't have roaming too. Sprints has to do what they have to stay profitable. I am happy about the change not really, but I know how business work.

Android? More Android really? Sprints full line up is Android well besides the Arrive I'm typing on. I want more Windows phones. Go ahead and bash me if needed but I've been bored of Android for awhile. Also take our premier away but if you get rid of unlimited data then you don't have what makes you different anymore.

If everyone read the article correct Sprint is keeping the true,unlimited,hi-speed data plans. The main thing that bothers me is i cant upgrade my phone in 12 months anymore. Now i have to wait 20 months,but it will be alot cheaper than my 12 month upgrade options,& its better than having to wait 22months,20 months is 60 days sooner. Plus by the time,late next year,when my upgrade comes around again i hear HTC devices will be coming equiped with the 2.3Ghz or 2.8Ghz quad-core processors ive been hearing about,& an HTC,with Sense,device with a 2.3Ghz or 2.8Ghz quad-core processor sounds almost unbelievable,& worth waiting the other year to upgrade. Afterall,i already did purchase the Evo 3D,but returned it within 25 days,& went back to my Evo 4G. The Evo3D just wasnt that much of an improvement over the original Evo 4G after using it,rootimg it,& using it for 25 days. So im gona keep using my Evo for another 8-10 months,until my 20month upgrade is available & i can get a device thats noticeably faster,with a much faster processor. The dual core processors on the Droid X2,& the Evo 3D just dont impress me like i thought they would. I want a processor that has a very noticeable difference like the 1Ghz Scorpion/Snapdragon, Evo 4G processor did when compared to my previous devices; Touch Pro & Touch Pro 2,& their 512mhz processors. I have had a Sprint account for almost 14 years,& i also hav a cheap,Cricket,carrier line as well.Its used as my home line.My cricket device is an HTC Incr fully flashed to Cricket,& Cricket has a 1Gb or 2Gb data cap/throttle. This is my last month using Crickets service just bcuz of the data cap. My Evo & my Incr both use about 700mb-1.2Gb a month,& thats being extremely conservative & using wifi wenevr possible.
