0. phoneArena 10 Sep 2013, 15:40 posted on
We've witnessed a series of awesome smartphones get announced these last few days. Last week we had IFA 2013, where Sony unveiled its new flagship, the Xperia Z1, while Samsung introduced the third iteration of its phablet series - the Note 3. As hot as these device are, though, there's a phone that can easily steal any other handset's thunder, and that's the iPhone. With today's introduction of the colorful iPhone 5C and the flagship iPhone 5S, Apple has once again turned the spotlight in its direction...

Please don't embarrass beasts Note 3 and Z1 by comparing it with the 5same

of course the Iphone stays the same when it comes to design.

I always prefer el fan-made iphone models but we always get the same crap jaja. R.I.P apple iphone 2013
Thumbs up for Xperis z1 it has many more things than the galaxy note 3 ( i had been in IFA BERLIN) i can tell xperia Z1 absolutely braeks the barriers of what was known as a phone into some thing else

Youll think otherwise when the benchmarks are released.

i doubt iphone 5s has 2 gb ram , i think it is a mistake .
37. buccob (Posts: 2495; Member since: 19 Jun 2012)
And the author left out connectivity in which the iPhone is owned by Z1 and Note 3...
iPhone still lacks NFC and...
Z1 has MHL, WiFi ac, Miracast, DLNA, MSC... along the regular stuffs
Note 3 has MHL, WiFi ac, DLNA, infrared... along with regular stuff

The iphone doesn't even have NFC in its system yet they patented it.

Based on size, I would get the 5S. Based on specs and software, I would get the Note 3. Z1... Meh.
4. PapaSmurf (Posts: 10409; Member since: 14 May 2012)
Z1 has the best camera on the Android front. Period.
12. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4270; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Yeah, but the camera doesn't make the phone, any hardcore Nokia fanboy would completely deny that though. I don't like Sony's designs that much, and their software isn't all that great. Plus the bezels are rather large, even if it does have something to do with the water proofing of the device, I don't care for it. Sony devices lately just haven't been appealing to me.
13. PapaSmurf (Posts: 10409; Member since: 14 May 2012)
You basically summed up what I've been saying for the past few months about Sony. Everything was literally spot on.
21. Dr.Tom (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 May 2013)
If you want to talk about HUGE BEZELS, lets just stop at any iPhone. Its the King of Bezels. PERIOD! Those bezels are just massive. The Moto X is the same size as the iPhone but its got a real screen at 4.7 inchs. I dont like Sony phone much either, but they\'re primo high quality devices with great cameras. Thats starting to sound like the iphone! Not good for Apple-they took a Nap and just give us the same phone with minor improvements!
23. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4270; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
The iPhone may have moderate bezels on it, but it has a small screen, so it's still manageable. The newer Xperia devices not only have large bezels, but also large displays, making them very unwieldy.
Also, the Moto X and iPhone 5/5S are NOT the same size, the Moto X is more than .2" bigger in both height and width.
The iPhone 5S was the biggest "S" improvement in all of Apple history. Double CPU and GPU power (plus OpenGL ES 3.0 capable), double the RAM, fingerprint scanner, and majorly improved camera (mostly in low light). Plus it came with the release of the biggest change to iOS in 6 years. This is the biggest step forward Apple has ever taken.
38. buccob (Posts: 2495; Member since: 19 Jun 2012)
Well I actually agree with this comment, though I do like Sony's design and they have a lot of variety while keeping their own signature...
this iPhone is the greatest leap that Apple has taken yet... but is still behind the competition in terms of features and specs (this is what the article is about)
40. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4270; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Well, it probably won't be behind in specs. We haven't seen any benchmarks yet, but they have caught up with all modern flagships (except the Note 3) in RAM. Double the GPU performance would put it well over the Adreno 320, which is used by many flagships, and it may come close to Adreno 330 scores. Same for the CPU, double the performance would put it about on par (maybe slightly ahead) of Snapdragon 600 powered devices. All of that power running iOS, you can guarantee this will be absolutely lag free.
As for screen resolution, it's not the super high res panels on the One or GS4, but that just means better performance. If it's going to surpass the Adreno 320 in performance, having a sub-720p panel will make it run everything perfectly; my Droid Mini (720p, Adreno 320) already runs all the games on the Play Store perfectly (at least the ones I have). As long as it's over 300 ppi it shouldn't bother anyone.
iOS 7 is still lacking features, but that can only improve with time. I have faith in Apple now, they brought a very good hardware upgrade to the 5 and actually CHANGED iOS. Apple is under new management and a new software designer, but you have to give it about 2 years for them to have complete control over the company, Steve Jobs was always planning ahead. I expect the iPhone 6 to be a huge change.

Design - iPhone 5S
Camera - Z1
Features - Note 3
Battery Life - Note 3
Display - user preference
Overall winner? Note 3/Z1 (user dependent)
14. .KRATOS. (Posts: 301; Member since: 15 Mar 2013)
Not even in design the same old one since the 4 was released jst stretched a bit, hope the Z1 mini will feature the same specs as the original Z1.
22. sniper1087 (Posts: 499; Member since: 31 Dec 2011)
The 4 had stainless steel and glass in the back so no, ot the same design, the 5 is the same tough, just different colors, things did get an upgrade, in camera, flash, fingerprint sensor, thats about it when it comes to hardware, anything else we already knew, which was the software changes announced 3 months ago. The Z1 is a great device, dont know when it will hit US shores, the locked version is kind of pricy, at least the one from negrielectronics, and is for pre-order, will have to wait and see what happens.
62. InspectorGadget80 (unregistered)
you're right on the design part.
5. jan25 (Posts: 469; Member since: 26 Feb 2012)
\"not user replaceable: Yes\"
lol PA, you seem to give the impression that this is a good thing.

"As hot as these device are (Note 3 and Z1), though, there's a phone that can easily steal any other handset's thunder, and that's the iPhone"
The whole article is a joke.

Galaxy Note 3 wins on every spec level.
PhoneArena fails to mention, by iEmbarrassment, that that 64 bit processor is at most Dual-Core, while the other two are Quad-Core. Also, the battery is the Same that is why the mAh is not listed. And, that iFingerprint sensor will break in less than a year .. lol. Screen resolution greater on Note 3. Lastly, the screen size on the iPhone 5Same is Medium - it should be corrected because it is Small by todays standards.
50. Trex95 (Posts: 877; Member since: 03 Mar 2013)
Don't be sure cause i saw lot of youtube videos about Note 3. Unfortunately it's still lag with all these massive hardware.
7. syedej123 (banned) (Posts: 71; Member since: 08 Jan 2013)
haha again comedy ..comparing iphone with note 3.
28. Dr.Tom (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Well what did you expect them to do! These phones aren\'t even in the same ballpark. You got real phones with big screens and then you got this toy with small screen. Everytime the specs are in favor of the big phones, you just omit the data so it looks like the comparison is sorta even....The iphone has a screen size that was good 3 years ago....today its just laughable! Its battery is a joke, but Apple says its an improvement, compared to what....once that processor starts ticking, it will probably get even less battery life.!
8. twens (Posts: 953; Member since: 25 Feb 2012)
Stupid comparison. I won't even compare an iPhone 10 to an s3
9. apple4never (Posts: 1064; Member since: 08 May 2013)
what the eff, compare quad 1.5ghz core full hd android flag ships vs apple and the whatever ghz 64 bit a7, not a chance lol, oh ya 20mp camera and 13mp vs 8. i have to give it the fingerprint sensor though that is actually pretty neat
29. Dr.Tom (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 May 2013)
If Sony brings out a Z1 mini with the same spec/build as its big brother, it will embarrass the new iPhone 5Same.
16. GeekMovement (Posts: 2137; Member since: 09 Sep 2011)
design actually can go to the xperia Z1 as well as the galaxy note 3 in my opinion. I don\'t care about plastic, i still think the note 3 is a well designed sturdy phone.

A heavy cruiser vs a battleship and a dreadnought.
Apple is sunk.
19. GrapeEyes (Posts: 248; Member since: 01 Sep 2013)
Lets all be honest, the iPhone design has been played out to the MAX!!!
All they have to do is increase the screen size to 5.5 and it will be a game changer.
30. Dr.Tom (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 May 2013)
How long do we have to wait for that to happen? Its been 2 years already.....dont hold your breath! A 4.5\" screen would have fit in the same case they have now...but I do love the fact that it has Massive bezels! It looks so....OLD, like a design from 3 years ago. Oh ya, thats because the design is from 3 years ago. Apple had a chance to hit a homerun. Instead they didnt even take a swing!
20. MistB (Posts: 581; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
Whatever happened to the 128 GB version? Plus I would have added another gig or RAM and NFC too. Either way Apple need to hit a home run with the 5S and 5C, 12 months is an awfully long time in the tech world and as you all know, a LOT of stuff can happen between now and then (GS5/Xperia Z2/LG G3/Nexus 5/Note 4) not to mention the up and coming chinese OEMS such as Xiaomi/Oppo/Huawe which Apple needs to compete with in China. So that re-designed IPhone 6 phablet bezel-less version couldn\'t come soon enough.
27. Dr.Tom (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Too little too late, for Apple! They took and nap and the world past them by.....I guess the term.....you snooze you lose! It real does apply to Apple\'s medicore new Same/Cheap iPhone....in a few months it will be completely invisible, expect for the Fanboys here at PA!
25. GHOSTGAMERHTC (Posts: 2; Member since: 12 Aug 2013)
iphone 5s looks like a bad joke a very bad one
26. sunnyfpy (Posts: 73; Member since: 12 May 2013)
Apple is obsolete and history. No more real inovation.Going the way of Nokia and Motorola.
31. goojman (Posts: 56; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
I'd love to stick the Z1 camera on the Note 3 & their you'd have a super beast with an awesome camera!!!
33. Samir_Maric (Posts: 87; Member since: 28 Oct 2012)
Hey don\'t compare iphone 5s with high end devices like note 3 and Xperia z1 or even s3 .... compare it to compare it Samsung Galaxy Amp or Sony Xperia M thats perfect match for iphone
41. bugsbunny00 (Posts: 1982; Member since: 07 Jun 2013)
how can you compare iphone, note 3, to xperia z1..
Z1 is king..
44. dancorcal (Posts: 39; Member since: 23 Jan 2013)
To add/correct spec list. Iphone 5S battery is 1570 mAh (source slashgear.com/iphone-5c-and-iphone-5s-battery-sizes-tipped-by-fcc-12297576/) and as far as I know the RAM specs have not be released so showing 2GB of RAM for 5S is speculation at this point.
45. dragonmhawk (Posts: 1; Member since: 12 Sep 2013)
for one the phablet phones look ridiculous when people r talking on them like i look at people and think r u stupid? u look ridiculous with tht huge ass thing in ur hand. like 5 inches i think is the perfect screen size for a phone. cell phones used to be tht size when they first came out now we r going back there again? the z1 will most likely have a non water proof version as well like the xpera z did. so i wont be surpised at all and will most likely get the non waterproof one:) same specs and most likely infrared like the xperia zl which i am get in just over 12 hours:) and samsung? u mean crapsung. if it looks plasticy like all the rest of their phones and i think they all look cheap. except the galaxy s4 google play edition. only crapsung phone i would ever use. one no bloatware at all means no lag or problems. two aosp os no annoying touchwiz. pure android experince. hmmm sony took tht direction when they change their timescape ui:) just sony has the better screen too. reality display full hd where it looks so real tht ur not using a phone. hmm screen as well z1 will most likely have the shatter proof screen protector on:) oh and z1 20.7 mgpix camera ppi is 441 true one is actually 480 ppi:) yup best phone screen for sharpness and resolution and low light ever:) ok im done bragging yes sony has way more dev support too. i am one myself so anyhow im done lol the iphone 5s and c r a total joke though. lol not even gonna get started
46. steve121 (Posts: 1; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
Don't compare the High end phone(IPhone) with those two cheap crap phones!
And for all:- have u ever seen a celebrity holding Sony or Samsung Phone?
Answer is "No" coz those are just cheap phones where as IPhone every celebrity and billionaire owns coz it. Is best!
Androids top most and high end phones cannot core IPhone 5C's price(lol)!
So how they can challenge IPhone 5S!
Here's what I say 'Histories Best Phone Is only an IPhone!"
47. jamesish (Posts: 13; Member since: 15 Sep 2013)
Someone get this idiot a sedative and reality check. Since when do Celebrities dictate the quality of a phone?
56. jb4674 (Posts: 145; Member since: 05 Apr 2013)
When you grow up and learn to spell properly, then we'll take your comment semi-seriously.
Just because a celebrity is seen with a particular device, doesn't dictate the quality of a phone. FYI, celebrities get free phones all the time and they don't have the slightest clue as to the craftsmanship of a device or its featureset.
Grow up and use your ghetto grammar in whatever high school you came from.
59. ososucre (Posts: 12; Member since: 12 Aug 2013)
How can Celebrities become the standard of a phone is good or not? The fact is only 20% iPhone rules the world, the rest is Android, and hey, the largest smartphone maker is Samsung. And I might say that your celebrities are only a small piece of cake in this industry!
48. Trex95 (Posts: 877; Member since: 03 Mar 2013)
phone arena IPhone 5s Aperture size F2.0 not 2.2 anymore.
51. Trex95 (Posts: 877; Member since: 03 Mar 2013)
On paper Android wins but in daily driver IPhone win.
53. Zakriya (Posts: 11; Member since: 05 Aug 2013)
i totally agree.
Although i use android and love android. s4 (lags perhaps due to touchwiz ) and xperia z ( fast but moderate battery timings)
But iOS Is hell smooth. ( i had iphone 4)
52. joey333 (Posts: 3; Member since: 17 Sep 2013)
Looks like iPhone won.. again. Better camera (bigger sensor), fingerprint security, no lag compared to Android, slim size easy fit into pocket.
54. mithun2013 (Posts: 3; Member since: 17 Sep 2013)
Don't compare poor android devices with iPhone.shame on those devices.iphone 5s best phone ever.consumers won't expect bigger screen.4 inch is enough.this is phone.not a tab.note 3 is really suck.how can I keep that with ear?.poor design.samsung or Sony can't imagine finger print tech in their dream.they know only 20 mega pixel n bigger screen.haaaaa......
