Most of you will, by now, be aware of the on-again, off-again kind of weirdly symbiotic relationship between Sammy and Apple...

Yeah, that's pretty unfair considering Apple...

Irony! It's regrettable that korean government pardoned the chairman of poopsung who is a convict. I think Obama needs to learn law enforcement from korea.
5. cc3493 (Posts: 158; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
and obama should take advice from a person who says poopsung....
and he does not control law enforcement, that is up to the states...

He has the power of veto to be precise. There is a fundamental difference between the patents (standard vs nonstandard) involved in those two cases. Obama did the right thing. He doesn't need a lesson from anyone - not at least from one of our lackeys or PA readership.

"Obama ... doesn't need a lesson from anyone - not at least from one of our lackeys or PA readership."
You are PA readership, and you just tried to give him a "lesson." You're both ironic and hypocritical.

First good laugh of the morning, you nailed it. +1
22. dmn666 (Posts: 244; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
You're an idiot. I never tried to give him a lesson - the korean idiot did though. He is the hypocrite one as well.

That really isn't cool, you just can't go calling him that - what proof do you have to say such a thing?
32. darkkjedii (Posts: 19411; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
+1 they're mad cuz they're Sammites. While I don't agree with the decision, the president is a smart man, and knows what he's doing. Sammites should stick to running quadrant standards speed tests, and being a pain to PA's apple users.

Yea NO, infringement is infringement whether it is standard or not. If the ITC thought it potent enough to impose a ban then it was sufficient infringement. The fact that Obama vetoed for Apple but not for Samsung shows the protectionism that American corporations get on their home ground. Not that other in their home nations don't get similar advantages but this sort of thing only works to degrade the reputation of those that do it. In this case, the US seems to have almost no moral high ground left in any area any more where once they were the untouchable example for the world.
28. Dorothy69 (banned) (Posts: 498; Member since: 21 May 2013)
I think you're wrong in stating "protectionism that American corporations get on their home ground" since you used the word completely out of context given that the veto, or lack thereof, had nothing to do with imposing an import tax on said Samsung products. I honestly think bam-bam was just too busy with his Homeys and forgot about it or he was just too busy trying to allocate more of our tax dollars for free health care for the peeps. Either way - I think Samsung is well within its right to express there dissatisfaction with this, otherwise, overtly political bias. It really is discrimination against a "non-American" great company like Samsung.
17. tedkord (Posts: 9867; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
He did not do the right thing. The ITC found that Samsung was not abusing it's FRAND portfolio. They found that in fact Apple was engaging in a reverse holdup, refusing to negotiate in good faith. That's why they ordered the ban.
Obama played the home court card. And the half million they contributed to his campaign didn't hurt either.
26. dmn666 (Posts: 244; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
Cool story - I see how you avoided 'patent holdup' and mentioned only 'reverse holdup'. No need for your twisted account. The whole deal is transparent to everyone thanks to google (link below) unlike the backdoor bribes and corruption that take place in korea when it comes to treating a sentenced criminal like samsung chairman

This is ridiculous for any company. Whatever obsolete products but still some are worthy though like S II.

Just make a new design and a new function samsung. Like a circle phone that do mind control.
7. twens (Posts: 953; Member since: 25 Feb 2012)
I have said and will say it again. I smell racism. It has been all over Sammy and their products from day one. Americans are just scared of competition. Apple is being backed up and supported by Americans even though their products tech wise are somehow now catching up. That's the only logical explanation why the iphone is always projected like a better device on this site and most other tech site.samsung is fighting in the midst of so may haters.
8. Hemoroid (Posts: 72; Member since: 13 Feb 2013)
Yes, and the snow is white and not black! Must be racism! :O
10. twens (Posts: 953; Member since: 25 Feb 2012)
Okay then explain this to me. Sammy is criticised heavily for using plastic.mean while iphone 3g,3gs and iphone5c are favoured by American Tech sites.
Amoled is always being criticised by for displaying over saturated colors, blueish whites and low brightness.
Ask yourself. Why is it that the cons of amoled are not praised and emphasised on? It Apple uses Amoled I swear to you it will become the best displays in a second.
The note 3 has a minimum of 5nits,400 nits average and 660nits Maximum. This bias site started otherwise making it look like the 500 nits on the iphone is superior.
The Iphones display is small and tiny.that alone can hurt your eye sights but it's never a con. It has low resolution display that also is not a con on this site.
The iphone 5 and 5s all are practically the same phone that is also not a con. Don't get me started on Ios7 and it's ton of bugs.that is also not a con
Compare a note 2 and 3 side by side and you will see how hard the Koreans are working.
Also compare iphone 5 and 5s side by side and you will see how slow your glorious Apple is working.

I support Samsung and the 38% that buy Samsung still do. I used to ignore the Samsung brand in fact buy more Apple gadget till Apple bring an unjust lawsuit against Samsung.
Apple lover would hate what i have been saying, but i put my money where my mouth is.
2014 tech budget will be routed to Mega 2, Note 4 and Gear 2 instead of Macbook Air 2014 and iPad 5.
18. tedkord (Posts: 9867; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
I also refuse to but any Apple products until the legal douchebaggery stops. Not because I care what happens to Samsung, but because their actions are harming me. By stifling the competition (which is their goal ) with these silly legal maneuvers, they're driving up the price of tech I want to buy while at the same time slowing it's progress. I'm paying more for less because of their shenanigans.

Yeah, compare apple to apple (I mean real apple) not apple to banana..+1 bro..

I agree with you and I'm American. Truth is - if JK Shin played basketball this wouldn't have happened so, since he can't jump, Samsung gets treated differently - BOTTOM LINE.

shady american government at its best!!!
to ban samsung products becuase "it impacts the consumers and compitition"
and the veto to ban apple products was also due to "impacting consumers and competition"
the final verdict basically said "we will phuck with samsung no matter what"
i would love to see the asian munufacturing companies (LG, samsung, etc...) halt dealing/supplying/manufacturing for apple and any other american companies,,,because i think the rest of the world can live without the U.S. and their bs homerism,,.for phucks sake, everything tech/electronics and even furnitures,etc...that we use in our every day life in the u.s. is basically made in the big three asian countries --> china, japan, korea
i would love to see how the u.s would deal with not having any mobile products coming from samsung, asus, htc, lg, sony, etc...and include these asian manufacturer that supplies apple to stop producing iphones, ipads, ipods = no more apple products worldwide and no more mobile android devices in the u.s...while the rest of the world are enjoying the latest and greatest from samsung, htc, asus, lg, acer, etc...phucken americans would be jealous and the economy crippled...ALL THANKS TO THE AMERICAN PROTECTIONISM/HOMERISM AND THE LIKE!!!

"i would love to see the asian munufacturing companies (LG, samsung, etc...) halt dealing/supplying/manufacturing for apple and any other american companies ....." .... if that happenned,
we here in America would have no electronics including no iPhones.

Chill out dude, no need to get all ghetto - you're better than that.
Sure, country's gone to hell in a hand basket but didn't everybody wants change? Well, now it's all changed - blame OhiO.
42. vikingsfootball09 (Posts: 70; Member since: 02 Oct 2013)
me chill out? our american government should be the one to chill out. america is a control freak. the american government and its people rely so much from the rest of the world as far as consumer products that basically dictates our lifestyle...but yet, the american government wants to phuck them over.
all the u.s. government doing is making itself an enemy to the rest of the world...karma will hit us americans in the near future...and im sad to admit that it would be justified and earned.
all this thing about, "if it wasnet/werent for the u.s...then so and so, yada, yada, yada" is all bs!!!
16. vikingsfootball09 (Posts: 70; Member since: 02 Oct 2013)
i no longer trust and have faith in the american government and the u.s. justice system!!!
we are the biggest joke of a country!!! arent we not satisfied as americans that there will always be a team from the u.s. by default vying for the little league world series title?

Well, Apple is US company and theirs sales means alot of cash floods to US goverment. The more cash they earn and more tax moneys US goverment get.
Its just normal a country will protect theirs own interest.
25. PhoneCritic (Posts: 649; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
Apple places all it's cash off shore to avoid paying its fair share of taxes. So does Microsoft, Google, Cisco, Oracle etc.. In fact the congress asked Tim Cook what he thought firms like Apple should pay in taxes. You know what his response was ? As little as possible. Congress did not demand that they pay a certain rate like you or I or else their CEO, COO, Board of directors would face Punitive action such as Jail time. NO, they ask them what they thought they should pay in taxes.
IRS ever give you that choice or did they demand you pay the amount you owe or else face penalties late charges or imprisonment?
No they don't contribute to the American economy as we would think. They all rob the American economy ( of Jobs, tax revenue health care benefits, Pensions etc). Our leadership needs to be shaken up. But, of course they won't since these same companies contribute to their election campaigns and off them perks to get legislation pass that favor them.
We have created our own monsters and it's too late to kill them.
43. joey_sfb (Posts: 5242; Member since: 29 Mar 2012)
"As little as possible" So the money and Jobs are been taken off shore.
Time for a corp tax law overhaul. Government should have law that give incentive to companies that invest back on the people.
24. artealis (Posts: 98; Member since: 15 Dec 2010)
samsung should leave US to apple and focus on the rest of the world.
let see how US tech evolved without competition, most of today scientist came from india, china and europe, let US monopoly by the apple and see how good your life will be.
its funny how a space cultural country become like this, and the conggress just cut down NASA budget recently, plus the presiden trying to dictate smartphone sells rather than to push the competition to make more jobs.
china, rusia and europe will say hello to obama from the moon and mars on the next 2016 and maybe with big samsung logo on the ship and rockets.

the u.s. isnt the richest or best country...the u.s. government is trillions of $$$ in debt...is that a country that is rich? the u.s. relies on the rest of the world more than the world relies on the u.s. when it comes to products, the things we use everyday in our everyday life..i dont even think i have anything in my house that is made the u.s.a.

31. darkkjedii (Posts: 19411; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
I don't agree with this decision at all. I love the prez, but Samsung deserved a veto on this just like apple got.
37. Ronny666 (Posts: 108; Member since: 08 Jun 2013)
Simple fact is, there are more iphone users who switched to samsung devices than the other way around. So, Apple can still hide behind Obama's transparent skirt as long as they want.
39. vikingsfootball09 (Posts: 70; Member since: 02 Oct 2013)
now that the korean government is upset with the u.s. government to veto the samsung ban...samsung should take apple to court in korea and sue for 100 billion...and i'd love to see samsung win a 100 billion court case ;o)
40. mcshank (Posts: 47; Member since: 24 Apr 2013)
Not backing the president one bit as he as Pissed on my chances of a federal job for the past few years due to NOT helping any funding laws pass but with the shutdown, I believe he doesnt give 2 *hits about a sales ban on devices that are no longer selling. Also, I highly disrespect him for helping apple and not samsung as this is a blow that may weaken relations as samsung is a MASSIVE company that helps its country more then apple helps its own which if I believe is not at fuc*ing all.
