A report says that Nokia is going to be taking HTC to court claiming that the latter's two Windows Phone 8 handsets that have been introduced, copy the look and design of the Finnish based firm's own pair of recently introduced Windows Phone 8 handsets...

wow this is bad. I donot think HTC went out o copy the Nokia 820 or 920. I think HTC may have been influenced by The Nokia designs but an out right copy of them is something they did not want. if HTC proves that they had this design before the Nokia 820 was announced to the press then Nokia's case wont hold up in court and Nokia will loose this case buy Nokia's Lawyers will get richer..

I don't think Nokia can play the Apple card by saying customers who went to buy a Nokia accidentally bought an HTC. In fact, I don't know how Apple lawyers say it with a straight face. Question is, how is it chronologically possible for HTC to copy Nokia when their phones were introduced during the same time period?

They do look the same, but I don't see the problem with that. For example all cars look the same, but we all know who's Audi and who's Volkswagen... There's a reason there's a brand on everything. I would do the same. HTC ripped off design from Nokia and it's obvious, not to even mention the available colors.
First was the material from which the outer sheel was made, now the form factor and colors.

The problem for Nokia is not that the new HTC phones look like lumia, the problem is that they look much better. Nokia came up with the design of the colorful phones but in contrast to the nice lumia 800/900 the new lumias are glosy and ugly. Nokia have to fix their design insted attacking the better one.

doubt that, the lumia 820 and 920 are better phones in my opinion but sadly with apple getting results with stupid lawsuits other company's will look at gaining an advantage the same way

Nokia should banned HTC 8X in the world. Unless HTC willing to pay Nokia compensation worth few billions pounds. For my decision, i suggest that, HTC 8X should be wipe out. Or HTC should redesign its HTC 8X

I have a feeling that Nokia Ceo Mr Elop will order his People not to sue HTC because although the Nokia 820 and the HTC 8x have a similar front face look all similarities end there. besides there is a horizontal bar across front face of the HTC 8x that immediately tells you they are not the same smart phone but would make you think that Nokia designed it for HTC. plus an HTC logo is on the front of the HTC 8x. like I said before all HTC has to do is show that their development HTC 8x began a reasonably time before the Lumia 820 was announced Nokia will loose any copy cat infringement case, Samsung got hung because in company communication info showed that they wanted to copy the Apple IPhone not just in looks but software functions as well.

I like the Nokia 820 more because 1=add more main memory through an SD card.
2=inductive recharge capability, 3= change the color of the phone case.
4=change the battery if you loose power and are away from your charger. The HTC 8x
prettier all around but the Nokia 820 has more user utility benefits. Nokia would make it even more superior a product if they got rid of the Nokia' 820's screen which is not an HD screen. Nokia please upgrade the 820's screen, the one on it is OK but with an HD screen wow man what a great smart phone it would be.

I'm pretty sure HTC didn't copy the 820 because they were unveiled within a couple weeks of each other. I think that maybe HTC was inspired by both the WP UI and maybe the Lumia 800/900 to get their 8X design. I think the colors and blocky shape are generally characteristic of WP so they were probably more trying to "copy" that. Also, they probably didn't want to rehash an Android design (like the One X) and make something more signature to WP. I do agree that they look similar, but straight up copying is going a little far. To me, the 8X still looks like an HTC design. They had phones with sharp corners before Nokia did in the WP game, back with the Diamond, etc.

Even Apple is rolling their eyes at you Nokia. You don't have the clout nor the popularity to claim your design as trade dress. Nor is the front of your phone all that unique. The back and sides of the 8X are completely different. You also CANNOT patent COLORS.
You know fanboys are a certain breed of defective humans that really should have never been born. In the Nokia fanboy case, first they attack Apple for suing Samsung over phone design.
