For its next fiscal year starting in April 2014, and running through March 2014, Japanese OEM Sony has a goal; the company wants to ship 65 million smartphones over those 12 months which would be a 55% gain from the 42 million Xperia units expected to be shipped in the current fiscal year. The information comes from sources inside the vendor's supply chain...

I'm not sure of the global roll out! But here in the US better get on more carriers then T Mobile.

It is not Sonys fault. Most of the Xpiera phones support all the US LTE Bands + WCDMA bands for 4g on the GSM carriers. Sony just refuses to let them ruin their phones by putting carrier bloat on them.

I truly hope they keep all that crap off their beautiful phone,
They still need to make their phones with more Bands/Radio (include CDMA).
Also, bring in that sexy Z1 to the States also!

Either they want sales or they don't. Truth is that they can't compete without the carriers and their nonsense. If that is the true reason I can understand but they don't have much choice.

They can do it. But they would sell much more if they really tried more in the US.

Ambitious, I like it! If they keep binging in the good stuff with thinner bazels. and with the release of the ps4 i don't see why not.

What does the PS4 have to do with Xperia smartphones?

A lot. Look at SS. They sell a lot more appliances thanks to their brand recognition.

With your thinking old xperias should have been dominating because PS1/2/3 is so much recognised. Especially in the days of PS2 no other console was even near it. Why didnt sony (sonyericsson) phones sell well back then? Its two separate divisions. Yes it gives the company good name but nothing to do with phones. If Sony doesnt MARKET their phones as well as Samsung they aint gonna ship anything. And not selling phones all all USA networks cause USA is the worlds biggest high end smartphone market. Samsung is dominating not cause S4 is better than Z1/LG G2/HTC ONE but because it spends more money on marketing, and very good marketing. Microsoft is more recognised than sony and samsung combined. But it cant sell even 1/10 of samsung phones...

If im correct sony ericsson did really well with the phones like the k-series and the w-series.
They just messed up with the support with the x1 /x10(mini) and people lost faith in the brand while the arc/neo etc. They crawled up with support and the phones where pretty fast for there time.
When Sony took over the stock of ericsson they stepped their game up.
Last year the s then the t.
this year the z and the z1.
If they keep this up next year they would do allot better cause people choose the z or z1 cause they want a "premium" android phone and the users are usually glad they chose these phones wich make choosing a second xperia more likely

Without releasing their phones for all American carriers, it can be a little bit difficult.
And also i think Sony must start building its own OS instead of using Firefox. It can be a great idea. Sony OS can be named XOS (Xperia OS).

Another OS starting from zero with no apps and used by only one brand? It would be a suicide. Even Samsung cannot afford to ditch Android, let alone Sony!

This makes sense.. as the market starts to shape up a strong alternative to Samsung, Sony is naturally fitting into place

With Samsung, Apple, LG, Huawei and ZTE in their way, I wish them all the luck they can get, this is going to be entertaining to watch either way...

Your very first post has nothing to do with phones? I find that more offensive.

how about you? you always trolling this site since your very first post. Get over it you retarded trolls !

If SONY wants to ship that many units they need to FOCUS ON THE U.S. MARKET. Put their device on every carrier/pre paid if they want to achieved that goal "MAKE BELIEVE". Still getting the Z1
23. jb4674 (Posts: 143; Member since: 05 Apr 2013)
Sony needs to offer their phones with subsidies so that they can truly take the market by storm. Supply and demand is only going get you so far when your flagship device costs 700+ USD. If the phones were subsidized, who wouldn't want to get their hands on Sony's flagship device for $299-$499?

I think Sony is the dark horse in the competition, they may not be the best but still they manage to remain stable and slowly claim the top... what i want to see is for them to push their products in US Carriers, that will really help them.... a lot.

They can do i since they have a wide range of good phones right now. Not to mention the xperia z1 mini where they made it possible for android lovers that do not like big phnes to have a high end phone in a 'small' body.
