Kodak can be considered as the original inverters although most of the work comes from university projects. Kodak, DuPont, General Electric & Phillips have major patents. All the companies are paying royalty for each display to Kodak. Now Kodak oled section belongs to LG. First OLED by Kodak 1979. First commercial product 1999

Before mine had broke the blacks were inky. Now the blacks are fool on grey and the whites are a deep yellow. I don't know how it broke but it did....Viewing angles on the other hand are just miserable.

LMFAO - most tech-savvy ? or the most ignorant fanboys? Sony released amoled on mobile products in 2004 and Samsung did that in 2009. TVwise, it's the same story - 2007 (Sony) vs 2012 (LG/Samsung). Sharp and Sony TVs beat any of those crappy TVs Samsung ever made. Don't consider yourself very tech-savvy if you're unwilling to accept the fact.

Samsung is associated most with OLED because that is the primary display they use for their phones! and tom d**k and harry would associate Samsung with OLED bcos of that! LG mainly uses IPS LCDs and Sony uses the regular LCDS with their bravia tech mainly. any tech savvy person will know that. your definition of ''tech savvy'' seems more to be like ''tech ignorant''

Don't think sony made a mistake making the 11" OLED.
It was only made to show off their technology.
but who wants an oled anyway?
if they don't improve the blue leds its useles.

I'm with you as well. Bigger OLED tvs in 2007 would have costed around ~ $10K. Actually that's the price of the big OLED tvs LG is gonna make this year. They won't succeed too, right?

Over saturation would be a big issue too. It looks good on cell phones but on TV realistic color production is a more important metric - I think.

I'm with you. It's getting really annoying to watch what Sony's been doing lately. They were able to put OLEDs on their walkmans not too long ago. I don't know what happened after that. I read somewhere that Sony & Panasonic will be partnering with AU to make OLEDs. Hope that'll help them lower the cost.
