We've got to do something Sony.....Keep up the hard work and just use some common sense and give consumers what they're looking for in your phones..........just listen to peoples interest and all will be well

Drop the alphabet game and start thinking of good names, that will be a start of catching peoples eyes.........Then you must bring your phones to EVERY carrier in the US! that is critical......do not just limit your phones to "just at&t".......put them on all the carriers and we will definitely see improvements :)

Much love Sony

Sony has great design but they make the same mistake as HTC: not aggressive enough marketing.

Sony, this is not beauty contest, this is strip tease club and you have to be a little .. well .. "nasty" to clean the customers' wallets..

Just like SS.

Couldn't be explained better.

Exactly. The web is littered with great samsung ads. Lebron with a Galaxy Note II, seeing the cast of inside the NBA with the same phone, the Next big thing is already here with the Galaxy S3

Provided they make competing specs that will make the average user brag about the awesome power , like Samsung

5. Coolkid posted on 01 Nov 2012, 06:27 12

@phonearena Also mention the fact that Sony's is officially no.3 now, right after Samsung & Apple... Pls don't miss it...

6. bipinm posted on 01 Nov 2012, 06:30 10

That is great news....Especially for the Sony Fans... :)

Yay.
Welcome back Sony - world's third ranked smartphone vendor!
No one listened to me when I was pointing out how Sony is making a steady progress with its Xperia lineup.
This is more than double the entire quarterly WP sales.

BTW, I think Sony has a huge hit on their hands right now - the Xperia Tipo.
It took more than a month for my order (backup phone to my sgs 3)to finally arrive due to initial shipment shortages.

13. AbhiD posted on 01 Nov 2012, 07:51 2

Yup...
as a hardcore sony fan i am absolutely delighted to see Sony become the
world's third ranked smartphone vendor!
what's amazing is that Sony achieved all this without any huge marketing or huge carrier support(like samsung and others have in US) !!!

It will not remain at no.3 for long, unfortunately. It seems Nokia is getting a lot of attention recently. with lumia 920 and other devices it can regain its lost places in coming quarters. Today cheap lumia 510 also went on sale in india for Rs 9999 only.I think in next quarter we will see nokia in 3rd or 4th place atleast...

18. darac posted on 01 Nov 2012, 09:01 1

Oh i don't think Nokia can manage that..do some math.
Their last quarterly smartphone sales were 6.5 million of which SYMBIAN still held the most part..given that sybian is free falling, Nokia WP sales alone should reach 6-7 million to get close to Sony which will score above 9 million in the next report.

But i actually see Sony falling back despite of that.
It's LG (Nexus 4 enough said)who will overtake it, and possibly ZTE too.

Here's my smartphone sales prediction for the next report:
1. Samsung 55-63 million
2: Apple 45-50 million
3. LG 9-10m
4. Sony/ZTE 8.5-9.5m
5. Huawei 7.5-8.5m
6. Nokia/HTC 6.5-7.5m

21. schecter7 posted on 01 Nov 2012, 12:10

Well, I think Sony's numbers will actually go up this quarter considering the new releases like V, T, TX, etc. Nexus 4 will surely bring LG back in the game though. It'll be an interesting quarter. We're gonna have to wait and see.

By the way, how's the tipo? I'm planning to get Tipo dual as a backup.

27. darac posted on 02 Nov 2012, 02:14

Honestly my Tipo is barely used. It's not even on.
But for what it is I have no complaints. Feels very sturdy and trusty yet stylish. Also I really like the UI

28. schecter7 posted on 02 Nov 2012, 08:45

Cool! Thanks.

26. bipinm posted on 02 Nov 2012, 01:35

i will admit 920 have hype...but we have xperia T to compete it..The bond Phone...

8. optimus2 posted on 01 Nov 2012, 06:53 6 1

when sony will consider about battery back up? they make gorgeus phones but battery life is soo less.. :(

15. AbhiD posted on 01 Nov 2012, 08:00 2

actually... battery life of Xperias is not less... it's on par with others.
it may sound weird but battery life in sony phones show huge improvement after the initial period of 2-4 weeks( i don't know what it is but it does happen)
My xperia s too behaved in the same way...!!!

9. darac posted on 01 Nov 2012, 06:54 3

..actually, looking at that chart, I think Sony mobile division is the only one making profit right now.
Very low PlayStation Vita sales.. they should ditch that and move it to smartphone obviously

11. adjou posted on 01 Nov 2012, 07:37 6

I do hope they focus on the smartphone side of things. Ditch the vita and focus making a portable gaming phone device thing! :P

12. vickygamit posted on 01 Nov 2012, 07:46 2

growth bcoz they are away from patent trolls

14. Lawliet posted on 01 Nov 2012, 07:58 5

This is good news indeed. ^^

19. ryq24 posted on 01 Nov 2012, 09:16

i wonder what sony phone was the bestseller? sony should do what samsung does with their flagship phone galaxy s3. making them available to more market asap. there are still a lot of countries that does not have the xperia t/tx. sony concentrate only on western countries and china while letting other countries wait for 2 to 3 months. by that time, interest have waned already.

22. jsdechavez posted on 01 Nov 2012, 12:12 2
