Sony denies rumors of a Windows Phone 8 handset

Just a few days ago, a report claimed that Sony is likely considering partnering up with Microsoft again and launch Windows Phone 8 smartphones in the near future. That seemed like a credible speculation. After all, the tech giant has been making Windows-based PCs for years, and those leaked WP7 prototypes indicate that the company is open to diversifying its Xperia lineup with an alternative to Android. However, no Sony Windows Phone 8 smartphone is coming anytime soon...

ow sony why w8 is a really good platform and if you are planning on making a windows 8 device please make the camera better than nokia 920 camera I envy them

This is smart move by Sony, they have to concentrate their efforts on Android b-c that's where market is instead of venturing on to an unknown territory and fighting the war on 2 fronts while still losing the main battle.

That's sad... But I'm glad Sony denied all those junk hype to avoid customers confusion...
Unlike other companies who create those fake hype to cheat us... Eg: fruit company

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Microsoft also makes the Xbox and all the preinstalled multimedia programs are Xbox branded?
That said, it would be kinda cool to have both Xbox and Playstation content on one device... other than a PC that is

Agree. Sony is on my shortlist of Android manufacturers if WP 8 disappointed me. Would have LOVED to have them on my shortlist for both OS's.
Oh well. It was a long shot....

Well what a pity...
Aside from the Lumia 800/920 design, I think WP8 would look right at home in an Xperia S/P/U shell and the transparent bar would set it apart from all the other boring looking WP handsets.
And apart from that I think a VAIO branded phone with top specs could really sell.

sony like nokia produce beautiful looking hardwares, its android ui looks elegant too, fortunately they seem to always lag, their flagships are dual-core which is last year and it'd be stupid of them if they didnt anticipate htc/samsung were launching quad-core devices (htc one/sgs3)....all they need is a quad-core device with a loooooonger life battery, and they must lauch it during this holiday season...

what are you talking about? my single core arc s not laggy after last ics update. dual core is last year? then you must be easy to trap with marketing gimmick, see article of how dual core xperia T and V beat those quad core in benchmark. But there is always choice for you, go for win8 or iOS for safety but with many limitation and boredom, android is for people who can be smarter than their smartphone. If you can't be smarter, go for other.
But I must agree with you if we talking about marketing, they need make quad core phone if they want to get market attention, because people can easily trick with number

I am not sad Sony doe not want to make Windows 8 smart phones at this but DIG THIS
SONY is going to make VIO Windows 8 Laptops and all Sony has to do make a super Gamers Laptop is Keep the Microsoft Xbox App and put in it's own Sony Apps that will include some Play station games then Sony will have a BAD ASS gaming Laptop computer that plays HALO as well as some Play station games. Wow Sony has got a winner in it's hands right now. and that is no BS
