Sony Yuga and Odin dimensions leak: 5-inchers more compact than the Droid DNA

The global Odin version is expected to feature an IR blaster, like Sony's tablets, for serving as your TV, home stereo and so on remote control device as well, which would be pretty svelte...

Yup, looks like the Droid DNA is what flagship Android smartphones will be spec'd at for 2013.
5. sats.mine2k4 posted on 20 Nov 2012, 10:00 1 0
sure but i Expect/want better processors in 2013. Don't get my wrong S4pro is amazing but exynos quad arm a15 and tegra 4 haven't come out yet... A 1080p display will be standard i guess...
13. Twisted247 posted on 20 Nov 2012, 10:43 5 0
Ya back when they announced the DNA and everyone was talking down on it saying is unnecessary and just a battery drainer cause the human eye can't see the difference blah blah blah
And I stayed back then, hate now but in 2013 all the flagship phones will be sporting these displays. And when the haters buy their new phone and it has the 1080p display better believe They will be boasting about it
Props to Sony for putting up the competition out there.

I'm not seeing u sony......I'm hooked on a drug called called nexus
12. The_Innovation posted on 20 Nov 2012, 10:37 5 4
If ANY Android runs on Android 4.1 and beyond, you don't really need a Nexus anymore. Project Butter was very important since it fixed the lag that all Android phones had. With that included, you should think about the camera, which Sony excels in (they make cameras for the iPhones) and battery life. The camera on the Nexus 4 is...well, kind of horrible according to today's standards. I'm sure the battery life isn't all too great either.
20. faisal8708 posted on 20 Nov 2012, 11:51 0 3
Well if u r goin to talk sh_t atleast do some research Nexus 4 has a SONY BSi lense probably the sameone tht iphone 5 has considering both hav purple lense issue. And every review tht I hav seen after the launch ranks the battery performence as normal
34. The_Innovation posted on 20 Nov 2012, 14:13 0 2
The poster above me was saying he's chasing Nexus. I'm only telling him he doesn't have to chase it anymore, because 4.1 is a very stable OS already. No need to chase for 4.2. Sony makes cameras for many, but from what I've seen, the iPhone 5 still takes better shots than the Nexus 4. I'm sure on a Sony phone, they'll put the best they have at 13 mp's. Because it's theirs.
39. remixfa posted on 20 Nov 2012, 14:47 0 1
I have yet to recreate the purple lens flare and I'm trying. I'm calling BS on it until I can recreate it.

"Sony makes cameras for many, but from what I've seen, the iPhone 5 still takes better shots than the Nexus 4."
Sensor not whole camera. So the differences may becomes in other departaments like optics and software. ;)
54. The_Innovation posted on 21 Nov 2012, 00:41 0 1
Well the truth still remains. Go look at the Nexus 4 Review and take a look at the shots taken with it. It's not that impressive. In fact, dare I say my Samsung Galaxy Nexus takes better pictures with its 5mp camera? :X
Comparing to the Nokia Lumia 920, and even Galaxy S3, the Nexus 4 could have done a better job with the camera.
56. PhoneArenaUser posted on 21 Nov 2012, 04:51 0 0
Yes, I agree that Nexus 4 camera's quality isn't really well.
47. PhoneArenaUser posted on 20 Nov 2012, 16:18 3 0
"...SONY BSi lense..."
BSI stands for Back-illuminated sensor not lense!

Nexus has the unpleasant tendency to outfit itself with current-gen specs instead of next gen. The Nexus One had a 3.7" screen and a 60nm processor right before the age of the 4.3" and 45nm ; the Nexus S had a VGA pentile screen and single-core processor immediately before the qHD dual-core era ; the Galaxy Nexus had an outdated TI OMAP and mediocre camera just before the introduction of 28nm and quad-core chips ; the Nexus 4 has a 720p screen and no LTE. The pure Android experience is great, but it would be even better if Google future-proofed by way of hardware, with absolutely no compromises.
On the bright side for LG, the company that makes the lates Nexus has historically done phenominally the following year. HTC did great after the Nexus One, then Samsung took over after the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus.
28. Commentator posted on 20 Nov 2012, 12:52 1 3
Well yeah, but again I'd like to see a truly no-holds-barred bleeding edge smartphone from Google, regardless of price. Show us what Android can do on a 1080p SLCD3 screen with 3500mAh battery, 4GB RAM with a quad-core Exynos A15 processor in a carbon-fiber body with a 13MP camera and 128GB built-in with a microSD slot to boot. Keep the Nexus 4 as the low end if you must, Google.
Every year it seems like Google is content to merge the latest and greatest software with the tried and truest hardware of the previous generation.
31. PhoneArenaUser posted on 20 Nov 2012, 13:01 0 0
You see the problem is that smartphone with such specs would cost a lot of money and that's mean not so many people will be able to afford it and that's mean that it may be not worth for a company to manufacture such device.
57. faisal8708 posted on 21 Nov 2012, 06:21 0 0
"previous generation" Nexus 4 was second device tht was launched with S4 Pro all others still needs to be released except for DNA. Exynos A15 still need to come for mobile devices so be realistic
29. PhoneArenaUser posted on 20 Nov 2012, 12:54 2 0
"Nexus has the unpleasant tendency to outfit itself with current-gen specs instead of next gen."
You can say the same about any smartphone not only Nexus. Talking about smartphones in our days there is incessant evolution, every half of year there is something new in smartphone world. :)
30. Commentator posted on 20 Nov 2012, 12:57 1 3
But the Nexus 4 was outclassed in the screen department by the DNA in a matter of days, not months. Of course there's something new every half year, but it would be nice to see Google's pride and joy last the longest.
32. darkskoliro posted on 20 Nov 2012, 13:02 2 0
I wish Google went back to HTC for the nexus devices, only then would we get great specs with build quality and a sexy sexy pure android
52. jan25 posted on 20 Nov 2012, 18:30 0 0
DNA outclasses any phone in the screen department, too bad it's not all about the screen though. fact is, Nexus is rocking the same chipset of the DNA with a bigger battery and a pretty nice screen too. now add to that stock android and timely updates (KLP goodness before any one else, we are talking half a year of waiting for the DNA if this update turns out to be a major like ICS) and the choice is certain for me.

This beauty might get unveiled in January 2013 and I'm guessing Sony will make sure to release the bloody thing no sooner than May-June.

this phones are direct competition to SGS3 but not the note 2. its still bigger than them plus its got a stylus and to add more its the most feature packed bad ass phone on the planet. nothing comes close mehn, absolutely nothiing. sammy is just killing it right now.
16. darac posted on 20 Nov 2012, 11:04 3 0
Funny thing, this is actually less wide and half a centime less tall than the SIII :)
58. ryq24 posted on 21 Nov 2012, 08:03 0 0
by the time this phone is release it will directly compete with samsung s4 which is rumored to also have a 5" screen.
10. The_Innovation posted on 20 Nov 2012, 10:34 2 0
Shall we say...5 inch 1080x1920p screen with 441 ppi, 1.5 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon S4 Pro Krait processor with Adreno 320 quad-core graphics with 2GB or ram with a 2500 mAh battery running on Android 4.1?
11. itsjustJOH posted on 20 Nov 2012, 10:36 2 0
Daniel, you are aware of the leaked photos of the Odin/Yuga, right? And you still used the render photos?
Anyway, considering that the phones would have glass back and front and a much larger battery, it's amazing how they managed to keep the phone really light. Almost as light as the Droid DNA with its plastic body and 10-minute battery, if those info are true.
18. MorePhonesThanNeeded posted on 20 Nov 2012, 11:32 1 1
Ha ha, I just got your joke, 10- minute battery pfft! If you haven't tried it yourself, stow your cynical responses. I'm guessing that tiny battery was to showcase the frugality of the screen and nothing more.
This Sony phone looks pretty sexy, although I want to know the construction of it, edge to edge screen means that chassis has to have excellent shock absorption. Looks like a great, can't say I have ever seen a Sony Android phone at VZW that looked good enough to own.
24. itsjustJOH posted on 20 Nov 2012, 12:24 0 0
That much pixels and LTE, even if they say the processor and the screen are power efficient, you don't need an extensive hands-on to deduce the battery life.
23. itsjustJOH posted on 20 Nov 2012, 12:17 0 0
Oops, it's the concept photo and not the render. My bad.
15. darac posted on 20 Nov 2012, 11:03 1 0
Noticeably smaller footprint than the Galaxy SIII !!
17. jove39 posted on 20 Nov 2012, 11:26 0 0
So this is Sony's device for 2013...great...think it's coming with 4core krait...wish Sony can get hands on sammy's 4core exynos5...2013 standard is set by droid dna...let's see who can match it up.
19. jibraihimi posted on 20 Nov 2012, 11:37 5 0
Seeing it's dimension, it would really have bezel less front, because it's dimensions are on par with S3, but Sony had managed to squeeze in 5" screen in the smartphone which is about the size of S3...... +1 to Sony for this; eagerly waiting for the next year's flagship devices........
35. Mr.Mr.Upgrade posted on 20 Nov 2012, 14:16 0 1
U still don't get it nexus means always get the updates your other Android phones run mostly on 2.3...... if it wasn't for nexus I'll own a iPhone.... updates are the most important like calling.. when 4.2 come out most of you will have to buy a new phone to get it....do your research....
38. Insignificant posted on 20 Nov 2012, 14:46 2 0
Anyone notice the particularly skeptical tone of the article? PA are hoping the water resistance part isn't true, it could tempt them away from their beloved iPhone are SGS3/4.
By the way, the dimensions and resistance are correct. I think the YUGA is global, ODIN is specific.
