Sony Yuga 5" Full HD phone gets previewed, your microSD prayers are answered

0. phoneArena posted on 18 Dec 2012, 02:38

Sony managed to find place for a microSD card slot on the side of the unibody chassis, and even threw in a microHDMI port for hooking it up to a TV, how's that for a well-rounded device...

SONY FTW!!!

This design looks great (except the round power button), but i prefer DNA design as it's easier to handle.

Sony camera sensors are great but they must improve the software as the reports about Sony cameras are not good.

It looks very promising unless Sony will release the phone too late.

wait a minute! it is a square with round corners...

I like the pic #24 and #31

Nice..the micro sd card slot is a huge thing for users and increases the chance of sony yuga being the choice of many buyers..and now it all comes downto the final battery size..hope they increase it to at least 3000

11. skaar18 posted on 18 Dec 2012, 03:16 6

Sorry :(

Yuga visited FCC... And the battery was 2330 mAh :( it was an article about it on Phonearena

27. half_21 posted on 18 Dec 2012, 07:23

Is there still any chance that they can improve the battery, yeah i know 2330mah is a decent battery that could probably last a day on a medium use, but if possible iwant something that could last a whole day or more on heavy usage...well i guess u just can't have everything that u want...but still a great phone from sony,

29. Insignificant posted on 18 Dec 2012, 07:47

2330mAh is the US model. The world-wide one is significantly larger. And bear in mind, this was just an early prototype.

38. Atlas posted on 18 Dec 2012, 10:42

International is said to be 2800-3000mah

47. mclaren_ferrari30 posted on 29 Dec 2012, 23:50

bro, if you want aawesome backup from sony, do not fear.. i have been on sony since foreva and trust me they do not lose power on anything else as fast as they lose while talking....lol.. once i managed to play radio for like 3 hrs with 5 % battery.heheh
and on android if you want, you can even get one and half day with this fon, just turn of the google location and gps services, i bet it just doubles the sony battery life.!!!
call less ,but if u wanna call too much go for something else. otherwise multimedia..no darn problem. you will never regret my review.

Let's hope this as my second android phone lol :)

5. neutralguy posted on 18 Dec 2012, 02:50 8

SUPERB!

7. _Bone_ posted on 18 Dec 2012, 03:06 5

I like what I see. Still prefer the Oppo Find 5 due to the more attractive design, but this is basically the same thing plus an SD card slot, which is important.

Any news on battery? I ain't buying no HD phone under 2500mAh.

10. skaar18 posted on 18 Dec 2012, 03:15

that still isnt a let down man if the DNA's battery is only 2020 and it was reported a pretty decent one........so this should be noticebly better.............hopefully

8. husfus posted on 18 Dec 2012, 03:06 13 1

I wish sony to sell more yuga than galaxy Siv . It's really unfair that samsung makes more profits when sony put all of their eggs into android

16. Retro-touch posted on 18 Dec 2012, 04:15 7

Not to mention Sony contributions to open source which makes it guaranteed you can get latest Android via Cyanogenmod very quickly with few issues, Samsung lied that they would be dev friendly OTOH

24. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 18 Dec 2012, 06:55 1 4

I think Sony only have themselves to blame, how come Xperia T was release w/o JB? and how come their camera sucks when they are the top manufacturer of sensors and DSLR?

Hopefully Sony will do better next year.

12. Edmund posted on 18 Dec 2012, 03:52 4 1

Definitely the phone to watch out for. Having said that, Sony are taking way too long to release it.

13. Mr.Alawi posted on 18 Dec 2012, 03:58 7

Also there is BURST MODE up to 999 photos in camera and you can Capture photos while recording video :D

14. argiriano posted on 18 Dec 2012, 03:59 5

Well Phonearena when you talking about microSD in the title you should mention in the article that Sony Yuga is actually supporting SDXC cards up to 128GB, which is very important for the users.
Also C660x works with Qualcomm's MDM9615 modem which means it will be the first true world-LTE phone out there supporting all available LTE bands. ;)

45. skaar18 posted on 19 Dec 2012, 05:32

when you have a micro SDXC slot it actually support up to 2 TB..... Yeah (2048GB)... Only problem is that you can't buy a 2 TB micro sd card atm... And for the 128gb.. it is not available.. it might be in CES or 1Q of 2013 though.

15. Lawliet posted on 18 Dec 2012, 04:11 1

Damn, could be my next phone if I can hold it (really need real experience)

18. bakhtawar posted on 18 Dec 2012, 04:38 1

awsome device :)

19. ryq24 posted on 18 Dec 2012, 05:12 2 8

samsung will still beat sony by coming out with the galaxy grand first in the market. sony is slow in introducing their phones in the market. and even if they were able to make it available at once, it is only on selected market unlike samsung which can release their unit simultaneously in several countries regardless whether that market is a big or small market.

31. pyradark posted on 18 Dec 2012, 08:01 2

Its easy for sony to climb on 3rd spot even without a quadcore phone. U just wait and see next year. :)

20. XiphiasGladius posted on 18 Dec 2012, 05:30 1 6

mediocre viewing angles? no please no, if SONY kept on using such displays, I'm off the Yuga bandwagon then.....

23. Lawliet posted on 18 Dec 2012, 06:45 4

Why would you view it sideway ?

25. XiphiasGladius posted on 18 Dec 2012, 06:56 4

Watching videos/photos are better viewed in all angles. Don't get me wrong I have an Experia Arc, the screen on that phones is awesome when viewed head on, but when watching movies with someone else, a slight tilting and the colors and contrast washes out thus making it dull to look at. Also I'm not buying the "why would you view it sideway when you can view it head on" crap anymore. Since it's a high end phone I don't want to see any compromise attach to it. That's just my opinion btw.

30. pyradark posted on 18 Dec 2012, 07:56 4

Sony needs to sacrifice some parts on the phone so that you wont brag about the price. One thing this is the only high end phone for 2013 that support waterproof. Can u just be happy and no need to worry about ur phone gettin wet.

Xperia P users :) on any angle of screen

32. XiphiasGladius posted on 18 Dec 2012, 08:19 2

Sacrifice some parts of the phone? Yet they price it comparatively with Samsung's high ends? Me brag about the price? Hell no, I'll buy a phone for personal entertainment and not to brag it (I ain't a shallow person). I thought to myself that I should reserve judgement when the final unit is officially release but after reading recent SONY articles both here and over at Xperiablog I got discouraged to buy any SONY phone come 2013 because of the BS they're makin' in regards to updating their 2012 devices. . . Looks like Samsung has a new customer in me. . .

21. smallworld posted on 18 Dec 2012, 05:38 5

Once again PhoneArena makes the phone sounds less amazing than in the actual review.
The reviewer was more enthusiast than stated in this article.

26. Coolkid posted on 18 Dec 2012, 07:20 9

Seriuosly PhoneArena is getting worse day by day and misinforming about Sony all the time... Eldar never mentioned that it has 16GB internal storage... He has no idea how much memory it has... Most likely it'll be 32GB... Then... He had stated Yuga's camera is much more impressive than Xperia T's and HDR mode is amazing... Night mode is not bad but gives less details... Overall camera is excellent... And it can accept micro SD card upto 128GB... PhoneArena You're either spreading false infos about Sony or bad at translating...
Fix things up....

33. JulianGT posted on 18 Dec 2012, 09:05 1

This better get android 5.0 whn it gets out

34. boosook posted on 18 Dec 2012, 09:11 3

PhoneArena, read the translaction carefully! ;)
Murtazin said that the camera goes down to 12 MP from the 13 MP of the T, but the output is better with more detail and better colors. That's what he says.
So, since the T camera is at least on par with the best smartphones of the other manufacturers, I think we can expect excellent results.
What's more we have HDR, HDR in videos (!), unlimited burst shot...
I think you should amend the article! ;)

36. wanders posted on 18 Dec 2012, 10:05

So, is the screen really full HD (1920 x 1080) or is it some other variation of a 1080p display (as indicated by the AnTuTu System Info screen shot), namely 1776 x 1080? Since Sony presumably makes their own display, it could be non-standard "full HD". If one scales the screenshot, the aspect ratio of the display is ~1.644, which is 1776 x 1080.

42. adjou posted on 18 Dec 2012, 13:59 3

On-screen buttons mate

37. Aaron_R96 posted on 18 Dec 2012, 10:33

It's a 13MP Exmor RS camera, just a quick note from XperiaBlog:

"Regarding the camera, whilst the preview says it has a 12MP camera, we believe the author is misinformed and most likely the handset is running in Superior Auto mode, limiting the resolution to 12MP (which is why you see this resolution in the screencaps below). The camera is in fact using a 13MP Exmor RS stacked CMOS sensor."

40. emadshiny posted on 18 Dec 2012, 11:27 3

only i know that choosing a good device is getting harder and harder, but this one is awesome.

43. Dacha posted on 18 Dec 2012, 14:44 3

Who the F*** did the translation? Mobile-review.com states that the camera is much better on Yuga than on Xperia T.

44. Firedrops posted on 18 Dec 2012, 17:40 3

Knowing Sony, they'd probably launch this phone only AFTER Tegra 4 and Snapdragon S5 devices are all over the market.

46. bipinm posted on 21 Dec 2012, 01:06 1
