Sony Xperia Z HDR video compilation: less burn, more detail

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Jan 2013, 05:59

The HDR video option is hardwired with the new Exmor RS sensor of Sony, and it merges footage with different exposure values on the fly to record the most distinctive scenes in tricky dynamic range situations - when shooting against a sunlit window, for instance, or with bright objects near darker ones in the frame, for example, where the conventional smartphone capture tends to overexpose those areas...

The HDR looks very promising, can't wait to see Z's HDR picture samples and comparison.

game over! finest flagship of 2013.

11. Droid_X_Doug posted on 16 Jan 2013, 06:34 3

Meh. Sony does have a very strong innovation in their HDR video feature. However, declaring it game over for 2013 at the very beginning of 2013 strikes me as a bit optimistic. I doubt Sony is going to outsell Sammy for example. Nokia may have something to show that challenges Sony's HDR video feature.

Even if Sony is the only manufacturer to feature HDR video, they have a way to go to challenge Apple, Sammy and the WP universe.

Credit where credit is due, however.

13. tashreef posted on 16 Jan 2013, 06:47

exactly let's see what Sammy and nokia has to show in MWC ......
then we will declare about the finest flagship of the year on 31/12/2013

16. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 16 Jan 2013, 06:57 14

and once again where would sammy be without sonys lens on its camera?

Sammy deserves NO credit in my opinion........

18. wendygarett posted on 16 Jan 2013, 07:32 1

Off topic: Where's your previous avatars knight...

btw, can you explain to me why Sammy deserves no credit?

29. GALAXY-STORM posted on 16 Jan 2013, 10:39

Sammy has its own CMOS sensors and probably every component of a smartphone, they will gradually stop their reliance on sony for its camera sensors in coarse of time and improve their own sensors.

Enough this of Xperia Z design which is far by light years from low end cheap looking of S3

24. rickysam posted on 16 Jan 2013, 08:25

i agrre that man especially in the camera department

7. tashreef posted on 16 Jan 2013, 06:27

Better than L920?

10. darac posted on 16 Jan 2013, 06:34 11

If you mean camera - it seems like it could be better, apart from the sensor stabilization.
If you mean the overall package - it absolutely blows the Nokia away in every respect

19. No_Nonsense posted on 16 Jan 2013, 08:01 1

Blows it in every aspect? Care to go beyond the dumb better specs, more apps (pretty much a standard argument against anything non-Android these days) and the fact that the phone is lighter/thinner?. BTW, waterproofing is one area where I'll give it to the Xperia.

20. darac posted on 16 Jan 2013, 08:08 1

..and you've just answered it for me thank you.
You missed only the expandable storage.
Since discussion about the OS is a matter of taste, if you wish

21. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 16 Jan 2013, 08:10 1

higher res, more features, better material

what more aspects do you need?

22. No_Nonsense posted on 16 Jan 2013, 08:12 1

Better material? More features? Speaking of a higher res display, what's the use if there's hardly any content that can make full use of the 1080p display? Source: ARSTechnica's Droid DNA review.

25. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 16 Jan 2013, 08:36 3

Do you know there are 1080p videos? And pictures with high def too.

And when there are many such screens, apps and content will be created for it. Have you ever heard of chicken-egg story ? :)

26. No_Nonsense posted on 16 Jan 2013, 08:58 1

Do you know there are 1080p videos? Thanks for telling me sir, I never knew of it. There's some blind fanboyism on this site. Apps and content WILL BE CREATED, so wouldn't a normal guy be better of with a phone that has all content on his platform right away rather than waiting for content to arrive?

27. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 16 Jan 2013, 09:43 1

lol u r welcome.

It's not you, not me. The normal users always want the best, the latest and the greatest. Try to explain to them they don't need such things... Well MS has tried repeatedly with Win mobile. WP7 and now WP8.

you have exactly the same logic as MS: MS always wants it safe, so MS is never the first to push the envelop.

The result is despite being the earleast player in mobile, MS is soundly beaten by both Apple and Google despite spending tonnes of money on ads.

28. darac posted on 16 Jan 2013, 10:06 3

If anyone is being blind here, it's you.
Would you watch 1080p YouTube videos on your phone?
Play some heavy games on it?
You think your L920 is as fast as a phone can be?
Well you're sorely deluded then.
It's not faster than S3 even on the SAME PROCESSOR.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4LFVRYoBYo&feature=youtube_gdata_player

It would be significantly faster with S4 pro I assure you.

Anyway to rephrase my initial statement.. Xperia Z blows the L920 away in every measurable aspect.

32. freebee269 posted on 16 Jan 2013, 19:51 1

except for lumia 920's video camera. i dont know if you have ever played with it, but it is pretty awesome. have you seen this video shot with the lumia 920 camera only?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPf0y75IGgE&list=UUSP7E88uFuHASIJLDjAhyKg&index=2

here a video comparison real world test engadget did for the lumia 920 vs. iphone 5.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARckSCU8vMw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA46H1njweQ

i'm not saying the rest of the xperia Z isnt better, because it is. but the video camera will not "blow the L920 away". daytime pics prolly will be better, but not low-light pics.

36. phonemirer posted on 18 Jan 2013, 13:09

why they re comparing l920 w xperia z ?? l920 is older, so wait for 922 and we ll see wich one will be blow out of the water

30. theZED posted on 16 Jan 2013, 13:33 1

When it's rolling anything is nothing to Sony. See the history. It will again be the most trusted Electronics brand.
