Sony Xperia S 12MP camera samples

Actually detail is A LOT better on the Xperia, except for the close watch photo where it's pretty much a tie.
Anyways, i tend to notice that at equal resolutions the best phone cameras have more detail than the point and shoot cameras - is that due to zoom lenses of dedicated cameras?

Somewhat. I'd sat that it is due more to how the pack such a small sensor into a large camera and expect good results in low light. And it has a lot to do with ISO. on my point and shoot, I forget to take it off of ISO 400 wehn I'm outdoors so my photos end up very soft and not very sharp. But Lower ISOs, photos turn out slightly better than the shots with the Sony.

Actually the Panansic FZ40 is not a DSLR. It is a bridge camera. It has a DSLR styled body but that's only it. The rest is just a standard point and shoot with 24x optical zoom. To put it better, they used a sensor from a cheaper camera and added the zoom, features, and manual controls of a bridge camera. I know no cellphone can beat the features but at the wide end of the zoom range, this cellphone gives the megazoom quite a run for its money. But I did notice that in the video with the Panasonic, detail was just as good but it was smoother because of the complex image stabilization. The cellphone didn't do a bad job, I saw a few duplicated frames here and their, but mostly slight jerkiness and choppiness which was caused probably by low lighting. Overall the cellphone is impressive to say the least. I mean no cellphone can escape that video problem, not even the N8 so this is still a very great performance.

Yep. The images are at the same distaince but from my experience with the Panasonic, it has a very wide lens, even in telephoto. It is even wider than my canon powershot sx150is.

N8 will be 1 cause of xenon flash....without xenon Sony is the best

i guess fingerprints are on the camera lens since many people are touching the phone.
@PA, please try to clean the lens if you are comparing camera details. =)
