Sony Odin vs Sony Yuga vs HTC Droid DNA vs Galaxy S III size and benchmark comparison
0. phoneArena 22 Nov 2012, 09:19 posted on
Needless to say, the GLBenchmark database already houses preliminary tests from a Sony C6603 Yuga, which is rumored to be the global version of the US-bound Odin. Both variations seem to share the same specs - quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2GB of RAM, and a 5" 1920x1080 pixels display with eventually the brightness-boosting WhiteMagic technology of Sony...

What??? In which way?? Bigger?? Smaller??? Wider??
For all i'm seeing...all of them are similar and not overly larger or smaller than the other!

Its remarkable because its a 5" screen packaged in a frame that's even smaller than the s3...what this means is that we are getting bigger screens phone without the phone itself getting bigger which I think is great...it means I can hope the s4 rumoured to have a larger screen them the s3 will not get any bigger in the actual phone size.

The best way (or the only way?) for Samsung put a larger screen on the S4 without growing the unit, is giving up the physical buttons and adopting the standard Nexus of virtual buttons. Motorola, LG and Sony already adopted. In the Major League, just missing the HTC and Samsung.

Honestly I hope Samsung don't get rid of the home button and I that many people like the Samsung devices due to the home button well I do anyways...am looking at my s3 right now and there is plenty of bezel available even with a home button for a larger screen.

The Home button is the worst part of the SGS3 and the Note 2 I hate it Nexus Style is the way to go. I still like the sgs3 and Note 2 but NO Physical Home Button, on screen buttons Nexus Style with larger screen and I would have bought them

If you think odin size is small as compared to S3 because it looks thus in the picture, then you also must note that in the picture the screen of the odin also looks the same size as S3 - but in reality it's not going to be so, its scren will be bigger than what shown and hence even the body
49. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
There is no need to look at any picture because we know dimensions:
Samsung Galaxy S III: 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm
Sony C650X (a.k.a. Odin): 131.6 x 69.7 x 9.8 mm

its just preliminary speculation-also wat u get in terms of actual available screen estate is going to be almost equal, given the sony flagship uses on screen keys
52. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
"...but in reality it's not going to be so, its scren will be bigger than what shown and hence even the body"
It is also only your speculation.
"screen estate is going to be almost equal, given the sony flagship uses on screen keys"
But when you are watching video, photos or playing games virtual keys will hide.
53. iDroid8 (Posts: 155; Member since: 16 Oct 2012)
i haven't used any device with on-screen keys, so can't really comment much on the second point but anyone can tell that the first point isn't just my speculation
and if the onscreen keys DO disappear, then how do you return to the home-screen? double tap on screen? does the video size reduce as soon as we do that? what about a game? i will constantly using/touching the screen then, no?

Odin is sure to have on-screen buttons. It shows how compact 5inch screen phone can be.
Makes me wonder why Yuga has noticeably thicker top bezel

"Makes me wonder why Yuga has noticeably thicker top bezel"
This picture was made just for size comparison and noone exactly knows how it will look. :)
36. vivftp (Posts: 3; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
Sure we do :)
I can't post links yet, but search online and you'll find leaked pics of Yuga, front and back, and with the display on.
42. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Sure we can't since they are not official. :)
9. ryq24 (Posts: 557; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
by the time yuga or odin are release samsung galaxy s4 would already be in the market and it will also have a 5" screen.
38. vivftp (Posts: 3; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
Even if it does, that doesn't mean it'll be able to topple Odin/Yuga. Sony seems to be going for the gold with these phones. They'll have dragontrail glass on the front and back, plus a shatterproof sheet on both. This will give it a very premium look and feel, while making it very durable - far moreso than the iPhone 4 with its glass back. If you want to see dragontrail glass in action, go to Youtube and look up the Xperia Active. One of the first videos has a guy going to town on the screen with various tools and it shows just how amazing this material is.
Aside from the dragontrail glass, Yuga will be water and dust resistant, and Odin will have an IR blaster ala the Sony tablets so you can control all your AV equipment and whatnot with it. Plus also remember Sony is apparently working on a 6" phablet for the first half of 2013, so there's still more to come.

where's an honest showdown with the DNA and Iphone 5
26. romeo1 (Posts: 365; Member since: 06 Jan 2012)
love to see what could be said so the iphone amazingly wins XD
15. xperiaboy (Posts: 12; Member since: 08 Nov 2012)
the sony odin looks compact :) though i really hope that they will put a bigger battery in it :)
16. Superpiff (Posts: 36; Member since: 29 Jul 2012)
Might get the Odin just cause I like Norse mythology
17. b1acktiger (Posts: 210; Member since: 19 May 2012)
Droid DNA ! Its already out and no major differences in specs except the repeated 12 or 13MP Sensor. DNA runs faster ! Can't wait
19. jibraihimi (Posts: 698; Member since: 29 Nov 2011)
There can be a difference if Sony launches Odin and yuga with removable battery and micro sd slot, and I also hope for higher capacity battery............
37. bipinm (Posts: 122; Member since: 07 Oct 2012)
Sony have a bigger battery ,32GB inbult memory and micro sd slot...Dont know about removable battery
47. iDroid8 (Posts: 155; Member since: 16 Oct 2012)
1st two are still okay-ish, but sd slot looks quite improbable....
39. vivftp (Posts: 3; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
Odin/Yuga will have dragontrail glass on the front and back, giving it a very different appearance and feel. They'l use whitemagic displays, meaning they'll be more efficient for battery life and can be far more visible in daylight. Plus as others have mentioned they'll have expandable memory, Yuga will be water/dust resistant and Odin will have an IR blaster. Battery size on both phones should also be larger than the DNA.
... and that's just the stuff we know from leaks/rumours right now. There could be other differences.

im trying to decide on my 1st ever smart phone to get....i know im a little late to the game but never too late to get one....anyways...am woundering does the dna have a sd card slot? also best buy is offering the droid maxx hd for free for 3 days through black friday should i get that?
23. tyger11 (Posts: 88; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
I'm sorry to say, the Droid DNA does NOT have a MicroSD slot. it also _only_ comes in 16GB storage variety; so if you need lots of storage, you're out of luck. That was the deal-breaker for me with that phone. *sigh*
48. iDroid8 (Posts: 155; Member since: 16 Oct 2012)
also just 11GB of it is available to the user in DNA
You can either wait for sony's phone till early next year to get a better camera, more memory and perhaps a card slot
OR you can get what is currently the best droid-Optimus G!

If you're tempted by the Droid Razr Maxx HD you'd better first read reviews here or better on youtube, also try to read some sensible comments from owners in some of those reviews. That phone has the 2nd highest battery capacity in the world right now if I'm not mistaken. Meaning you can fiddle with it all day long without ever worrying the it'll run out of juice.
40. bluescreen (Posts: 154; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
yea i have...i also just learned that best buy is offering it for free with a contract which seems like a pretty good deal to me...granted i will be stuck with it for 2yrs im just hoping that i wont regret getting it cause i need a phone with a decent radio in it due to where i live and a long battery life would be real nice too....i've been following phones and comments on here for a while just now decided to make an account to comment....it almost seems like too good of a deal to pass up...
24. bluescreen (Posts: 154; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
oh wow thats real lame who can deal with 16gb of storage espically on a so called high end smart phone....plus i heard u cant remove the battery?
31. jphillips63 (Posts: 188; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
I went and played with the DNA yesterday when it released for over an hr and to be honest the phone just didnt feel good in my hands and not only that I went and checked the signal strength after I turned wifi off and it was an avg 10 dBm higher than my Rezound signal strength. I had both phones sitting side by side and plus my Rezound is in an otterbox case and it would show -88dBm where the DNA was showing -98dBm for some that may be ok but I already live in an area where I don't get the best 4G signal so I need all the signal strength my phone can grab. I like HTC but honestly they failed miserably on the DNA it has great hardware yes and a beautiful screen but the phone is flimsy it has a weaker radio low storage and the sealed battery. I really tried to hype myself up to buying the phone, but I just couldn't justify it over my Rezound.
32. bluescreen (Posts: 154; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
yea thats my problem also....i live in a so called marginal service area....i really liked the specs of the dna but a sealed battery and no sd card slots will make this phone fry....i need a phone with a good (radio) in it....i've heard the droid razor maxx is supposed to have one of the better radios for reception in it but also heard they had to re organize their antennas inside and was woundering if that hurt its signal strength any?
33. jphillips63 (Posts: 188; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
I didn't check the razor Maxx out mainly due to I have a very bad taste in my mouth with moto and how those of us who purchased the xoom got treated when it was released. I will give them credit they have the best radios of any manufacturer out there. I can only advise is to do what I did go to the veizon store and turn wifi off and go into setting about phone and network and check for signal strength to what you have now or compare it to other phones in the store.
Oh why the thumbs down? some of you are so childish with the thumbs and crap. Grow up please, I speak from my observations and you wanna give me a thumbs down? I think it's better to report true real world findings for those readers than you go buy a product only to bitch and whine it'sa piece of crap.
I'm sure I'll get a thumbs down to but ya know I don't care I call it as I see it and always will.
34. bluescreen (Posts: 154; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
i have a kin 2 right now and i dont know if i am able to check my signal strength like that or can i?
35. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 6807; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)
Why u guys are doing comparison now? It's not even out yet. can we at least wait till CES 13'? I'm skipping the Xperia TL for this mysterious ODIN.
43. yajia1 (Posts: 114; Member since: 22 Aug 2012)
Here's to hoping the battery wouldn't be as disappointing as the Xperia S and Xperia T and Xperia Arc S and Xperia.... Well pretty much all their phones.
