Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 close to AT&T launch?

This article contains unofficial information.
Originally slated to be released with Android 1.6, the model is in line for a Android 2.1 update in Q4 as we reported. That will still leave the device one upgrade behind those running Froyo. Also, as we previously told you, the Xperia X10 will not support multi-touch. With all that in mind, we would expect a $149 price tag on the device, just shy of the recent $199 gold standard for high end phones.

ive had this phone for three months and put it through the paces.... great phone for sure. i can live without multi-touch .... pin-to-zom is better than pinch, for the reason that it is one handed usable and works like a charm. Until the 2.1 upgrade, use AdW Launcher to give it 7 home screens and a shortcut doc. i would also suggest "shapewriter" as, again, it makes the phone a one handed experience. pit falls are in the music player there is a sleection for playlist... though, you cannot actually make a playlist on your phone, it would have to be imported from your pc. I'm curious if they will correcty that with the upgrade. Another issue I have not enoyed is that i cannot move or rename files such as pictures. camera pics stay named the default date and location tag, and you can't move nor make a folder for that matter of "Mom's house" folder... kind of goofy if you ask. the speaker is HORRIBLE!!!!! and the earphones are dreadfully quiet even at max volume... Timescape and media scape DO NOT work in landscape, only in portrait. i find timescape pointless. by default android OS notifies you everything under the sun, so why have this redundant feature telling me i took a picture, or listened to a song, or got an email. Time scape is EXTREMELY LAGGY. when ou activate it it automatically searches for all the info from many many sources, and can take a few minutes... yes, miutes... for an apps to ativate.... like i said, i never use it anymore. Maybe these features will be tweek with the 2.1 ugrade, one can hope.

this is pretty much how i have my nexus set up lol, ... i had an unlocked x10a (from rogers) a month or so ago... loved it except for the terrible placement of the camera flash settings and that it turned on and would not turn off until exiting the cam app, unlike EVERY other phone that only flashes the led when you take the pic. other than than, its a solid phone and i will say that i typically got way better batt life than my nexus and usually typical sony ericsson better reception and stronger signal... only kept my nexus to check out froyo and while i'm waiting on a software patch for the camera led fix on the x10. Its a great phone, and in my opinion better than the captivate on att... sorry, but i simply dislike all the cartoonish neon garb on all their phones... pluse we are seeing about 1/4 of the captivates come back where i work due to random quirky issues...

Majority of ppl do not recommend this phone from what I have heard, lol... Stupid Sony still lags behind in Android development by FAR, no multi-touch is a major negative to most of ppl.. not just for maps, browsers, but for gaming too. Sony's custom UI is not as convenient as sense UI.

Like all phones there are positives and negatives. Whilst this one has no front facing camera..that is changing..see new X10a. Also Multitouch video on you tube by sony ericsson official, explaining why they did not rush out with Multi touch and are now doing so after feedback. in call volume is reported to be low.
on the positive side, the phone now sports 2.1 as a minimum ..finaly and custom roms can be added at will via the xda developers bootloader bypass...great idea !
the problems are getting ironed out slowly... but because this hardware is so capable and the aesthetics are pretty darn good the potential of the phone has been realised so..
multi touch ..comming Q1 2011.
front facing camera in new X10a and perhaps can be retrofitted as the
x10a old has room for camera.
android 1.6 finally up to 2.1 officially but if you are smart you can run any ROM you damn well please..even Gingerbread.
so..take heart this phone is comming back...

Looks like someone is playing catch-up. Sorry AT&T, but you're just a little late. The Xperia X10 is a good device, but on AT&T's unstable, lagging network, spotty 3G coverage, and the UI on the device that is not up to par with HTC and Motorola, this device with this network without an eclair or froyo update, is sadly doomed to fail.

I have or owned 2 different AT&T ANDROID phones, ARIA and CAPTIVATE, and I have never had a network problem with either one, and I work at a job where I must frequently visit L.A. and SAN DIEGO. Both have good UIs - ARIA is better. My Captivate is a EURO I9000 ROM and is faster than than the AT&T original - again, no network issues - yes, some areas I get E and 3G and other areas I get H. That is not a network issue.
