Some new Apple iPhone 5 units are coming out of the box with scuff marks and dings

0. phoneArena 21 Sep 2012, 16:47 posted on

Some Apple iPhone 5 buyers are unboxing the device only to find scuff marks or dings by the antenna markings on the side if the phone; others have spotted marks near the screen or on the side of the black version of the phone...

ok Rory hold on dude...the scratches on the iP5 could have come from shipping.. the cracks on the SGIII came from users using it... the iP5 beat your plastic phone in a drop test and speed test.. sales and give it time customer satisfaction... the SGSII only beats the iP5 in specs but considering only a small % care about specs.. to answer your question yes some iphone 5 will come faulty , in fact they all did in their map section.. there

Bro you just don't get it.

Sure, i Ike the idea of having a bigger screen, I like they are keeping their "retina" display too, I even like the fact that the back isn't glossy glass that will shatter easily. But bro face it, the iphone 5 is going to get dents, cracks, scratches just as easy as the sgs3 will. If the iphone 5 cant survive shipment without getting dents and scratches on it. How do you think itll look a 1-2 years from heavy use? Better get your apple care plan!

If those are from shipping then the box should also be damaged. No Samsung doesn't crack after use nor does sony/nokia/or others .... not unless the user isn hell bent on misusing/abusing rather than using the phone.

Come on people. Do you really think all of those leaked phones go out of circulation? They get boxed as well. Hell these are collectors items.

If you have a fedex or ups package and it looks damaged and you open it up and find these dents and scratches on your iPhone, by all means blame it on the shipping. However the iPhone is not only protected by the package but by the actual retail package itself. You'd have to damage the shipping package to leave a dent on the phone itself.

it's all about the "experience" of having a chipped phone during unboxing.

Cheap QC, just another way Apple can screw the consumer and keep their ridiculous profit margin.

HA. You never see things happen to any android phones. There's always going to be a problem with Apple so why spend your money there when you can buy something better and HONESTLY a phone that does not come in scratches.

Its a manufacturing defect. Not that much of a big issue, but an issue nonetheless as so many iUsers spread the word. The phone wasn't built with the perfection Apple claimed it to be. But then again, Apple's claims are not believable these days so good luck to those who purchased the iPhone 5 just for the sake of it. One year to go, with an already teeny-weeny cracked device. Hopefully Apple will be kind enough to provide you free bumper cases so you won't be humiliated in front of your droid friends but I rather doubt it.

why are all your comments gibberish crap?

this shows what apple fans are like, there given a marked or dented device and whats the reaction....i dont mind i still got my iphone

no matter what company it is if your new expensive phone comes out the boxe marked you shouldn't accept that you want it perfect when new

again shows how you ifan would allow apple to get away with anything.

ohh and this part of your comment

''Is it cz of u jealous ? Or ... Android fans ... Or Symbian ... Or u can't just afford it''

so childish, you think the iphone is a special device only some special people can afford?? your deluded mate

Don't worry, Apple will send free bumpers to cover it and all fans will be happy for FREE BUMPERS!
Nothing can go wrong with Apple iDevices, if you get "cosmetics faulty iDevices" and Apple will send free stuffs to cover it for total free of costs of course.

Case solved!

In response to the article:

I received my iPhone 5 today via Fed Ex and my phone actually did have a tiny scuff similar to the one pictured.

I'm assuming this is mostly prevalent in the "slate" model because of the coating.

Not really a big issue to me, but I'm sure many people will complain about it to retailers.

It's an aluminum frame, what do you expect?
"Premium" material that scratches and bends worse than plastic..let alone the poly-carbonate -.-

Well, Apple fans believes everything what apple says. So if Apple is going to tell these people that, this is how the new iPhone 5 design is then they sure will believe it. That's how much Apple have created an impact on their fans. When they came up with the notification screen and told their fans it is their innovation, they believed it even though they knew that it is an old tech in Android.

How these models passed Apple's strict Quality check.............??? But any ways I'm sure they will be having excuse ready for it.........continue Reading for the possible or cover up by Apple........
Customer: hello, today after receiving my brand new iPhone 5, I noticed that there are scratches and dents on the phone near antenna and on edges, I'm confused how my brand new iPhone has dents on it's surface......???
Apple care: Sorry sir, for this. But let me tell you that those marks you are seeing on the edges and near antenna are not there by accident, in fact you are few of the lucky owners of 'special edition' iPhone 5. Sir, we had made very few 'special edition' iPhone 5, with special marks and dents on it's body, and I'm very glad that you're among the lucky owner of special edition iPhone 5........................

And I know most of them will buy this excuse and will be very happy thinking they are owner of special edition phone............ :)

Apple will probably release a statement to show how to correctly unbox the phone without scratching it.

My black / graphite iPhone 5 delivered on 9/21. Phone great but was nicked and scratched out of box. Chip in glass below home button. Called Apple!! Was able to switch out for white/ silver. The black / graphite will be a cosmetic nightmare for Apple. Any scratch will expose lighter metal below. Advice: get the white/ silver which won't show scratches as readily. Otherwise having fun!!

What apple head of marketing replied to an iphone 5 user who complained about scratches when unboxing his iphone 5
Any aluminum product may scratch or chip with use, exposing its natural silver color. That is normal..http://blog.gsmarena.com/apple-head-of-marketing-comments-the-iphone-5-scratches/
