Some iOS 6 users continue to have trouble using Wi-Fi
0. phoneArena 27 Sep 2012, 08:23 posted on
When iOS 6 was pushed to users earlier this month, complaints about problems with Wi-Fi connectivity started flooding Apple's discussion forums. It was quickly discovered that a special webpage that iDevices used to check if a network requires log-in credentials was accidentally taken down...

Sucks for the people on limited data plans though, or work in areas where they can't get a data signal.

This is getting crazy. Does anything work with Apple's iPhone 5 & iOS 6? I mean even iOS 6 is more full bugs than the rain forests of the Amazon.
Man Apple you really have a winner with the iPhone 5 & iOS 6.
Let me guess it's because people are opening their iPhone 5 boxes wrong & that is why the unit has scratches all over, & they must be using iOS 6 wrong because the maps suck & the Wi-Fi is broken.
I can keep going but this is a moot point as of right now.
Apple following Nokia & RIM into infamy. lol

When you have a ridiculously small R&D budget, things like this happen.
My personal opinion is Apple is arrogant when it comes to phones. They think just because they made the Mac, they can easily make cell phones. I'm a Telecom tech and see this attitude from the computer techs all the time. People think phones are easy, the reality is they are far more complicated than people know. Apple has been making the iPhone for 5 years, that's an infant amount of time compared to companies like Motorola and Nokia. What Apple needs to do is increase their R&D funding and do a ton more quality control checks before pushing products out the door.

I completely agree. They spend more on lawyers for patent suites than they do for R&D. That is just plain stupid. Then again, that also explains why iOS hasnt changed all that much in 6 versions with just a new feature and a few bug fixes per year, while Android has gone through metamorphosis after metamorphosis and companies like Samsung have pushed the tech we use forward more than all others combined. That R&D budget is very important.

Thank you to BOTH Aeires & remixfa. It's sad that Apple now buys tech & spends more money on lawyers than R&D.
Android is innovation & it's evident with the sales explosion its had.
Apple's customer satisfaction is going down like the mess we all make in our toilets every day. Apple's best days are now over because they think they can feed anything to their customers & it will sell.
Well guess what Apple? You underestimated your fan base, even the i$heep are not falling for horrible design meaning if you sneeze on the iPhone 5 it will chip & scratch. & also the buggy iOS 6.
How can such a simple & bland OS be so buggy? Well it's because they are trying to make it more & more like Android. They are going through the growing pains Android had with 1.0 to about 2.2. Since 2.3 Ginger Bread Android has BEEN very stable.
Food for thought. lol
+1 to both of you!

This is true, Apple just iches along like a slug on their OS, while every other OS has to make leaps, bounds, twists and turns around all the patents Apple keeps filing

Apple.... Meet Microsoft of 2007. iOS 6 sounds just Vista.... buggy as hell.
36. jmoita2 (Posts: 930; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
I have a couple of buddies who were brainwashed into getting the new iPhone, and they are going crazy with the wifi going in and out the whole time or the phone is just not able to find it at all. It's just buggy...
2. frydaexiii (Posts: 1235; Member since: 01 Dec 2011)
I'm starting to think there are more problems with iPhone 5 & iOS6 than there are real features.
12. AliNSiddiqui (Posts: 380; Member since: 19 Sep 2012)
You are absolutely correct and I am not even joking... I am not an Apple hater... far from it.. but the scuffgate, the light leakage, this WiFi problem, the purple coloration when light is outside the frame when taking a picture, and more...
21. No_Nonsense (Posts: 826; Member since: 17 Aug 2012)
Purple haze looks more like a lens flare, which even the S3 has.
31. frydaexiii (Posts: 1235; Member since: 01 Dec 2011)
Lens flares should be the same color as the source with slight color changes, not a pure purple color.

Oh Dear Lord, say it aint' so, no iWiFi?!
How is one supposed to Facetime, check email or surf the flash-less web?
I guess iPhone 5 is still a great music player, after all [dangle preposition]…

you'r missing a word in you'r paragraphs... What happen to you'r letter "i " ....?
26. PAPINYC (Posts: 2308; Member since: 30 Jul 2011)
It's up there: "iWiFi" (three i's, more than enough for a short comment).
Besides, iTruly feel bad for "them":
• Small Phone
• No flash (I can still play flash embedded videos in Chrome on my RAZR MAXX & Rezound)
• No Maps; "they" think a cathedral in Europe is a Burger King
• No turn-by-turn
• No expandable memory
• No wi-fi
• No video calls over cellular (AT&T)
• Purple pictures
• And, they have to throw out all their old accessories!
What an iScAm!

No basic feature like wi-fi?
What's next...no calling feature from the iPhone???
well thats what happens with iOS on iCrap!
this s#!t just keeps getting better and better!
6. MISTER.H (banned) (Posts: 167; Member since: 03 Aug 2012)
O no i'm planning to buy the iP5 in 3 weeks time and allready all these problems! il'e have to wait 2 months till they get a new shipment.
7. hltechie (unregistered)
I had this problem. I reset my wireless router and modem, reset my WiFi credentials on my iPhone, restarted and redid everything and it started working correctly again. I had this problem on my iPad 2 WiFi and my iPhone 4s (Sprint)
Apple needs to get these glitches fixed... This iOS 6 update has been very disappointing.
10. hltechie (unregistered)
Also this issue only happened with my home network (a Cisco router and Motorola modem). At work (a Cisco wireless router) I never had this problem.
48. hltechie (unregistered)
Well that may be true but my problem was with the iPhone 4s. Over all I agree... iOS 6 has been a let down. Apple seriously needs to fix issues like this.

Now we know what those 200 features were lulz
47. hltechie (unregistered)
I still can't believe Apple ditched Google Maps... that was the biggest FAIL
15. twilliams5108 (Posts: 14; Member since: 14 May 2012)
I have the iPhone 5 and have not had any problems whatsoever. I have great battery, wifi works great, no yellow/purple coloring crap on screen, and I don't use any type of maps so I don't give a sh*t. I also know 5 other ppl with the iPhone 5 and none of them have had any of these problems.
23. twilliams5108 (Posts: 14; Member since: 14 May 2012)
Why would I lie? I would be pissed off if I had any of these problems and would bring the phone back. Just because i like apple products doesn't mean im goin to stick with a it if im having multiple problems. I have had it since Friday and haven't had anything wrong with it. Same with 3 of my friends and my two sisters.
49. hltechie (unregistered)
lucky... my iPhone 4s has been more buggy than ever
56. twilliams5108 (Posts: 14; Member since: 14 May 2012)
What exactly are you having problems with?
57. hltechie (unregistered)
Wifi is acting up, a good number of my apps are failing to load or crash (even ones like Facebook and photos), UI isn't running as fast as before, I could go on... My over all conclusion is the fact things were working correctly with iOS 5, and now with iOS 6 I'm seeing problems for the first time ever really.
19. dsmboost (Posts: 45; Member since: 01 Nov 2011)
It's kinda silly how Android fanboys are always crapping on Apple when there are problems found with one of their devices when it launches. I'm not an Apple fan, I own a GS2 and love it. But come on guys, ALL electronic devices have some sort of problems when they first launch. That's why there is almost always software patches or hardware revisions for every high-tech electronic device. Can't you people be just a bit more mature and rational?
24. synot (Posts: 264; Member since: 14 Sep 2012)
Because the things u mentioned are deliberate and not accidental ,Apple knows about these defects before shipping but knows their fans would buy them anyway and wait for the fixes ,wake up .
27. dsmboost (Posts: 45; Member since: 01 Nov 2011)
You can't really know that sort of thing for sure. Yes, I understand an employee may have said they did know of these problems. But seriously, all the problems the iphone 5 has were deliberate and known? Come on, that's just your obvious bias against the product. Wake up.
29. dsmboost (Posts: 45; Member since: 01 Nov 2011)
And fyi, other manufacturing giants are not angels compared to Apple. If they could get away with what Apple does (if it is intentional), they would most certaintly do it.
44. ilia1986 (unregistered)
dsmboost - Apple deserves any sort of criticism it can get - because of their arrogant nature and non-competitive practices.
25. AliNSiddiqui (Posts: 380; Member since: 19 Sep 2012)
Yes, you are right. Every phone has issues... but some of these are just plain stupid..
30. Aeires (unregistered)
When iFans have a track record of constantly slamming Android phones you get a backlash of hatred towards the company. Add to it, when Apple touts their devices as perfect ("it just works," "hi, I'm a Mac...."), and then fails miserably with major problems, expect the negativity to arise.
33. remixfa (Posts: 13930; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
All electronic devices are not marketed as "magical" and touted to "just work" by their rabbid fan base.
Aeires hit the nail on the head. For years iNuts have been trying to slam android devices for glitches and things that dont work as planned. Now Android has matured to a point where it works pretty flawlessly and iOS is going the opposite direction. The sheer amount of issues iOS6 and the i5 are having is actually becoming comical.
With the i4s we were having a "weekly issue" for the first month or 2, with the i5, its nearly daily. And were not talking a few minor glitches, we are talking MAJOR system issues like wifi, GPS, camera, easy denting, light leaks, screen banding, ect.
65. bkb01 (Posts: 43; Member since: 21 Aug 2012)
Plus the fact that they release only one phone a year which is sort of an advantage(you know to release a POLISHED BUG FREE product) yeah IT JUST WORKS..they should expect a slamming.
22. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 3012; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
I'm thinking what the hell is iPhone 5 and iOS6 made up of? Funny LOCK, Low STOCK and Empty BARRELS??
I'm not an Apple hater nor a lover, but those who have iPhone 4 or 4S, be content with what thou has!!
50. hltechie (unregistered)
My 4s was working fine until this update, how can you be content when there are clearly problems? If users don't complain and give feedback then software patches to fix glitches and problems would never be released. I will be content when Apple actually fixes these problems and the OS on my phone works correctly.
51. hltechie (unregistered)
And if that doesn't happen then I will switch phones and OS. When I had problems with Android I switched, when I had problems with RIM I switched, and so on. Idc really what phone I have as long as is works as it is designed to.
66. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 3012; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
You misunderstood mate!!
I meant 4S and 4 WITHOUT iOS 6! As in Leave your iPhone 4S as it is...be happy with iOS5!! Getting me??
67. hltechie (unregistered)
Fair enough. I misunderstood what you were getting at.

"It's not iphone's fault, it must be the router" - Apple
52. hltechie (unregistered)
It could very well be the router, or either one (as I pointed out in an earlier post). But it would be just like Apple to point the blame on someone/something else other than themselves.
54. blueciti (Posts: 1; Member since: 27 Sep 2012)
Yes. It is router fault. Because I am using AirPort Extreme Base Station at home and all my iOS devices(ios 6) have wifi issues.
59. hltechie (unregistered)
Have you looked for a firmware update for the AirPort Extreme Base Station?
60. Fallout09 (Posts: 417; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
It seems that die hard fans are still properly trained to never admit failure lies with Apple....
62. hltechie (unregistered)
The WiFi issue lies with Apple, I'm 90% sure of that. But I can't rule out the 10% that it wasn't my router's fault because when I reset my router, things started working.
63. hltechie (unregistered)
Screw it... 100% Apple's fault... I'm honestly planning on switching to something new ASAP, this iOS 6 has really pissed me off.
41. jaytai0106 (Posts: 1299; Member since: 30 Mar 2011)
Why are companies still having trouble with Wifi when a new phone comes out? It's the year 2012...
