Some Samsung Galaxy S III units are dying young

0. phoneArena 21 Dec 2012, 02:15 posted on

There have been a number of reports about the Samsung Galaxy S III suffering from a killer bug that turns off the phone and won't let it reboot and while Samsung is aware of the issue, it has affected quite a number of units; Sammy is doing the right thing and is replacing the units regardless if they have been rooted or not and the problem seems to take place 150-200 after being activated...

India. May be thats why. Yes, but its an assumption about Sony, no facts known about their service. But their list of devices getting updates was big and only four were left out. Where do you live?

Malaysia . Because their skin is closer to stock they should have updated some of their phones to jellybean by now . But xperia S launched with gingerbread and T launched with ICS .

You do realise that most of their phones are still stuck in ICS while one x and gs3 got jelly bean months ago ?

I know that HOX and GS3, note 2 got JB. JB is quite good and not getting an upgrade on phones coming in 2012 was frustrating. Like I said, I have no facts about Sony, but their was a list of devices getting JB update, only 4 were left out. May be I am wrong. I love HTC, but people who can't root had bad experience.

Nope, it was definitely wrong. HTC One X has a tegra chip which has problems with a lot of games. It's multitasking sucks for the most part, a joke of a battery life, poor video recording and its sound is pretty crappy. Samsung has made many innovations with its phone even if most if them are gimmicky. This is a serious problem but isn't happening to everyone... Galaxy S III still the best international smartphone of this year.

Since when are features called a gimmick. Its a pretty stupid thing for people to say.

I am taking about smart stay and smart rotation... they are AMAZING "ideas" but they never work for me unless I'm outside in the morning... and no, I am not Chinese or something :)

They work for me. You know you have to turn them on right?

They are called gimmicks by those who have no need for the stuff and won't use them. I really don't need my phone to hold a pen...I really don't need an iButton...I really don't need my phone to try and track my eyeballs lol, have at it if you want all that stuff :-)

At least the One X doesn't throttle the GPU after 30 minutes of gaming, for the record the only games that the Tegra strugles is with gameloft games which are poorly optimized iOS ports. I never had problems with multi tasking on MY HOX where i left the app it starts there again. Joke of battery life? I get 2 days out of use of it, and you do have notion that after the updates the video recording and overall camera quality have improved, right? And the sound, do you even have the phone? Mine is set up with Infinite Sound Boost and the sound is freaking awesome, everyone that has tried it said the same. You just seem like a huge troll. Galaxy S III the most overrated international phone of this year. HTC doesn't sell well because they can't afford proper marketing. Do i need to bring up that the One X's screen is much better than the S3's screen?

If my phone does throttle the GPU, I dont notice it at all. This is the first time I hear of this. Thats how much it matters.

It has to do with the processor or the programing. It has nothing to do with the externals.

What phone do you have?

While my G1 is still running perfectly fine after 4 years ... and it wasn't even so badly overpriced as new flagships tend to be.

Summer 2011-2012 = 2 years
Summer 2012 - Winter 2012 = 2 1/2 a years, not 4.

Funny enough, last night my phone froze and wouldn't restart. Once I took the battery out and put it back in the phone started up again. This was the first time that has ever happened to me.

I was playing the game Granny Smith at the time so that could have been it. Granny Smith is kinda like a sonic the hedgehog type game that has nice graphics so maybe it just overheated or something.

+1 to you for Granny Smith. That game rocks! I've played it extensively on iPad and iPhone and never had an issue with it crashing, but it could be the port to android?

I know the game "early bird" crashed 90% of the time on android a few months back, but it never crashed the phone...just the app.

This has an uneasy similarity to a commercial lab device I once worked with, where a board supplier changed one of the chips so it added data to one of the chips, but could not overwrite what was there. When the chip filled up, the system failed.

This is big, i hope Samsung get around to fixing it.

On the other hand, i find it quite funny that the One X fans and other fans are here to promote their fav phone, unfortunetly the One X and others simply arent as great as the GS3, One X+ gets close, but at the end of the day the GS3 is THEE flagship of 2012.

hi,i'm gaurav from india i bought galaxy s3 GT I 9300 in june 2012 from india......it's screen broke within ome month but the phone was working very fine...now on 18/12/12 it just died down the same way it's mentioned above. The service centre here in india says it's because of a water damage, they somehow convinced me by showing a small square on the back side which becomes visible when the battery is removed, they say that the color of the box has changed and it prooves water logging.....and hence i need to shell out Rs 7000/- indian currency.....i've no issues with the screen but the main board damage i'm sure i'm not responsible......i've left the phone with the service centre and i might get it vack on monday/tue ie may 24 or 25 december 2012 plz help......

Atleast they admit the problem and replacing the phone...unlike some company I won't mention (Apple) denies the issue and blame it on user error

Results of rushing to market! Why have a smartphone's predecessor be out on market within a year? What's the life expectancy of your smartphone, if you take care of it and has a removable battery it can definitely survive a couple years. These smartphone are coming out and outdating each other so quickly that by the time that first version of your smartphone's flaws or defects surface there's a better version coming out soon.

Mine kept failing on Verizon in the States. Causing phone to freeze even during my business calls. So I have the black iPhone 5 & tho still the some look, no issues. Love it as I did the 4S.

I heard Verizons version had bugs. I heard it was due to Verizons crapware. Even some developers claim their apps dont work on VZW versions. I dont know too much specifics. I havent run into one single problem. I only got ghosting in one game due to the game not being updated for support. I have the sprint version.

I can believe it man. But since VZW has the best nationwide coverage & I'm trucker, I just went back to iOS. I'm no fanboy at all, well maybe just tech all the way around, but the apps I use for business works better with the iPhone any how. I miss the size but its not much difference. All high end phone nowadays are superb, just for me, business before live wallpaper pleasure.

& meant to include I'm really forced to stick with Verizon. I do however wish either AT&T or T-Mobile does something to improve nationwide service quality. The simultaneous voice & data, plus bring your own device experiences are much wanted my way.

Honestly, the crapware is so bad on VZW and they troll their products so much it's annoying. If the iPhone works for you then that's all that matters. My girlfriend has the iPhone 5. Not a bad phone, but it's just not my taste. People tend to exxagerate on both ends.

There are some things that really bother me about the company and that's why I dont like to purchase Apple products.
